Wow, you are so creative!! This type of art is not as easy as you make it look...LOL. However, each piece of art is unique and special.....I love to create. Thanks, for showing me your incredible art and techniques.....I ran across your videos by sheer accident......I was looking for a way to bring Bible school into the 21st century!!! There’s only so much you can create with Macaroni noodles and glue!!! LOL. So, onto RU-vid I went and they suggested you. Now, I use some of your ideas in our Bible School art classes every year....It’s fun for the kids and I show them your videos on how its done....Though it can get messy, if somebody drops or spills, the kids create some of the cutest art for their parents to keepsake. And..we can keep the ink and other supplies from year to year so, it’s cost efficient for the church. Thanks so much for sharing!!!!! The kids enjoy it and, in turn, so do we!!!! I think the parents look forward to getting the keepsakes, even more, than we do making them. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! I think we might try this version of coasters instead of the white ceramic ones this year.....seems easier to me....Hmmmm, lots of spill opportunity though, isn’t it? Oh well, you only live once- have a ball!!!! LOL.
Thank you for sharing! love all your videos! i am not good enough for understanding english but i try to see many times for the details every your videos. it's cool!! i learn many idea fram you, i appreciate
Amazing!! Thank you so much for your clarity. I am totally going to try this. I've been recently dabbling in AI on ceramic tiles. This looks like so much fun and you are so talented!
Thank you for sharing! Have you ever tried peeling away the yupo after resin has cured? When I was making yupo/resin earrings the paper peeled away after I had sanded the edge…happy accident occurred- the translucent ink had imbedded in the resin, created a very cool effect
depending on where you live, if you are close to Pat Catan's, you can buy the square coaster backs pretty cheaply -- it's a bit thicker than the rolled cork. :)
ah ... don't think you have one nearby -- they're in Ohio and Michigan mainly (but think they're in NY state too). We go to Toronto almost yearly to fly out of Pearson for Europe :)
These are so stunning. I was unable to find the turquoise tray in your list of supplies. Could you please tell me where it was purchased from. Thank you.
How do you determine the amount of resin you use for the six coasters? Is it a cup or a half cup of resin? Is there a secret to determining what is needed?
And ANOTHER great idea you've come up with👍👌👌 I love that you incorporated your scraps to create the abstracts - they look uber cool. 💕💕This has ignited my determination to try out some other similar type ideas to this that I've been sitting on a while... Once I get around to doing it - and filming.. I'd be interested in your feedback. Fabulous coasters! Hope you sell a ton of them for xmas!!!
HybridWorld Art Thanks, Kate. They were fun to make. Thanks for your feedback as always🙏🏼🙏🏼 Yes I’d love to see your video on this when you’re finished!!!
Great videos. Have subscribed. Excellent straightforward videos and what amazing results. You make things look really possible. I was wondering what weight of yupo paper you need and how you know how to choose the weight of paper for different projects?
Does the yupo paper need to be sealed before you place it in the resin? Does anyone else find it seriously satisfying to watch all the lil bubbles pop?
I couldn't find the link to the video on how you created the papers. Is it possible to send me the link? Watching your videos has made me order the first products I need to start making resin pieces. Thank you
Hello, I just came across your video and I loved it. I have a quick question, did you treat the paper at all before you added the resin? I noticed there was no discoloration.
Hi, new to alcohol ink and resin and just found your amazing videos. Thank you so much for all the amazing tips. One thing, can you tell me how to decide how much resin to mix up for projects. Is there a sort of size chart to amount of resin available at all. Thanks, Judy
Very informative. I have a quick question please. Can they be used to put hot drinks on? On a different note, we have family friends in Ireland called Monteith. Small world!
Awesome video. I'm just started making coasters with clear resin and dropping alchohol inks in, and then use the white alcohol ink on top of the colors already there. About half of my coasters have to much whit on the face to see into the coaster. Almost looks like white dots. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Jane every video of yours I’ve watched has been very informative and easy to follow. Great Job. 1 question, if I wanted to use a photograph from an ink jet printer would I have to seal it first? If so what do I seal it with? Thank you. And keep up the great videos.
Dan LeRoy Hey Dan, thanks for watching. I’m not 100% sure. Normally I don’t seal at all because the resin dues just that. However I would do a small test piece with resin to ensure it doesn’t activate or make the printer inks run. If you do go the sealant route then look into Krylon brand. They have a number of varnishes for various applications. 😊
I got them in Michael's, in the baking section. Just know ahead of time, they'll come out w a matte finish if you use the bottom as your top (like the alcohol ink, petri dish technique) you can easily add a layer of resin to give it a polished look, just don't want you to be bummed if you create a masterpiece and are expecting it to come out w a diamond shine!
I used this same mold and my resin got stuck inside. Do you use anything like a spray or Vaseline for them to come out better. I broke one and one popped out fine. Love all your pieces.
Hi Jane. Great work - as always. I'd like to know how you are making those great oval shapes. Are you cutting the Yupo paper free-hand or are you using a template / cutter?
Great video! I have just about all I need to get started, but the torch. What brand is the one in your video? I found one that's BernzOmatic 3-in-1 microtorch that I think will do the job.. At least I hope lol
Curious as to why you do the square coasters opposite as most. Usually, I see most resin poured molds, especially the round ones completed so the finished product “top” is on the “bottom” of the mold. No criticism here, beautiful finished product ... just curious.
This mold would leave a matte finish with the bottom as the coaster top. The layeting technique in this video could technically be done either way; I'm assuming she's just eliminating a final step of having to re-resin (glaze the matte finish to be shiney) as well as being able to see how each one looks as she's doing each. If they were done down-side up, she would have to do the steps in reverse to get the same outcome and wouldn't have the same working "view". I'm guessing that a number of the down-side up tutorials you've seen have been along the lines of the alcohol ink/resin petri dish coasters. That technique requires the down-side to be up to get the full effect. I've been working w/ resin for about 5 years and ⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ are the reasons I work up-side up, sometimes and down-side up, other times. I have this mold, it's usually convenient and a great size for coasters but kind of tiresome if you don't want a matte finish and cannot do your piece up-side up 🤪 hope that makes sense!
Jane, do your collage pieces ever come unglued when you add the second resin coat? I tried spray glue but a couple pieces lifted. Maybe the glue stick is better, as you've used?
Yupo paper is a ¿plastic? paper. It doesn't absorb ink like "regular" paper so the colors just dry on the top layer and keep every ounce of vibrancy they have when they're wet! Pretty sure she painted the yupo w alcohol inks. It really give you beautiful results! You have to play around w it a bit to get the technique that works best for you bc some inks dry really quickly (like alcohol inks) but it's hard to match the intense colors of the finished product on regular (from trees) paper even w mixed media, watercolor, drawing etc... you'll lose some vibrancy when the paper absorbs the ink
Hi, loved this tutorial and your latest one too, the vase. I would so like to have a go at this but i tried to hunt for the six square capacity mould you used but it isnt listed in your shopping list on amazon. Can you supply a link please? Thanks for the wonderful tutorials, so cant wait to try this! XTibbyX
Whymsical Dreamer hi there. Yes I think I mentioned in the description that I can’t find the square moulds online. Just the round. But the square ones can be purchased at Michaels arts and crafts.
Why is your resin cloudy? Are you telling me not to worry about the cloudy on the resin and just use the torch? What size is your mold for the coaster?Thank you for sharing 🤩🥰👏
Thanks for the great video! I was wondering if you have to apply the small bit of resin to the yupo and wait 24 hours if you’re only doing one layer, as opposed to the collage technique you did here? Can it be done all in one step, if not doing layers? Or will the yupo not stay down at the bottom if you don’t weigh it down with some resin first, the day before? (I hope that made sense.)
4:46 Have you tried to just cutting the yupo/ink paintings out like you did and put them on regular tiles and make coasters that way too? Your squares are so beautiful... Just make ATC too... ;)
HI. I always hear the presenter say that they will list the products in the description below. I have never been able to find the "description below". How does one do that? I want to be able to do this project as it is awesome. Thanks.
TrueSuccessTools are you watching on mobile or desktop? There is a drop down arrow to the right under the video on mobile. It basically expands the video to show the description, links and comments. On desktop it should show underneath automatically
Hi there, lovely little coasters. I tried making some similar tiles/coasters, however my resin stuck to the mold and actually peeled/cut away pieces of the mold (same mold you use in the video). I used the Michaels Envirotex Lite resin. Do you have any thoughts on why this may have happened? Thank you, Suzette
7andearth ... This is a common problem if you use your torch too long and too close. This can ruin your molds. Try warming your resin before pouring in a warm water bath, to reduce the amount of bubbles, and torch directly straight down quickly not to touch the mold.
Another Great tutorial, thank you. Just wondering, can you add the alcohol inks to resin (without using the white) or is that why you used the typo paper? Thanks
You can def use alcohol ink in resin, the white added over the colored ink will give you the 'striations' of ink in the petri style coasters but you don't have to use it if you just want to tint the resin w the alcohol ink
Love your work!! Are you keep the ink from reactivating on the yupo paper once you start applying the resin? And how do you clean out your measuring cup?
Hi Jane, I love this idea and wanted to buy the silicon tray, however, the one shown from the link is not the same. If it had the same size cavity I could use it but each cavity is only 2.5 inches square. Where could I get the same size as the demo one? Thanks.
Carla Smith Hi Carla. I have round 4” diameter molds now added to the the link. I’m having a tough time trying to find the same in a square version, same as in the video. If you are near a Michael’s Arts and Crafts store however then they do carry the square molds.
Just discovered your channel today and love everything I've seen so far. I'm anxious to try the Art Resin on coasters. Do hot mugs stick to these coasters.?
Donna Trull Thanks for watching 😊🙏🏼 I’ve made coasters and tested them with a hot cup of tea and as long as they are fully cured and thicker then you will be fine.
Hi Jane. How to these coasters stand up for having a hot tea or coffee cup placed on them. I did read somewhere that the resin can discolour over time as the resin is not resistant to direct heat. Hope you don't mind me asking
Cliff Carlo they should be fine. You have to let them fully cure before placing hot mugs on them. I would wait a week. Resin will yellow if it doesn’t contain HALS. I only use Art Resin. Most resin only contain a UV protectant which isn’t enough to prevent yellowing.
There are tutorials on RU-vid that show you how to make your own alcohol inks from sharpies and other such markers. I imagine you could use other highly pigmented inks too, just make sure you get a high concentrated rubbing alcohol. I ordered 99% thru my pharmacist. You might have top play around a bit w ratios but I don't see why it wouldn't work w inks if it works w marker innards!
I use the same silicone resin cup and if I let it cure for a couple of days I can generally peel it right out. There are sometimes a couple of flakes left over, but I wipe them off with alcohol wipes.
Hi, I used resin calculator and made coaster. After 24 hours, I see that the coaster is not hard and it can easily be bent. Touching it, I can see my finger prints on them ? Does this mean it hasn’t cured ?? I could easily remove from mold so thought it is done. Please suggest ?
Nice Video very well done. In regards to your Amazon link why don't you have am Amazon.ca link you are from Canada, around Toronto as am I. All I see is the Amazon.com one not Amazon.ca I believe there is a differnce in the price and stuff and it is all in American funds and some stuff we can't get here and plus would we get charge duty? From the .com site not sure do you know? Because if so maybe you can put up a link for that ?
sparkle5ms Hi there. Thanks for watching. I do get asked this question by fellow Canadians and the reason is because 90% of my subscribers are U.S based. I can only have one main shop link and cannot merge both. It’s unfortunate I know. Also, the shop page is not the same for the Canadian market. They do not allow an actual “page” so to speak with every item on a single page that you can scroll through. :-(
Ah...Ok thanks for the quick reply. I guess I will have to do what I always do. If I see something I want to buy I copy and paste the product and see if I can get in Canada so I don't have to be charged with duty and such.
Art resin is one of the safest resins you can get! Make sure you've got a lot of ventilation and wear a respirator if you need to. You can usually find them in the paint dept of Lowe's/Home Depot

Do you seal the inked yupo with anything before pouring resin over it? I tried this with another brand of resin and the red ink color completely bleached out. Is Art Resin ink safe without any pre-treating?
