Thanks Gary. You explained this honing process very well. I have my Jarrod plate but as yet haven't shaped any of my hones. Better get to it. Many thanks, Mick.
Wonderful demonstration Gary , with only about 150 laps and you have a concave bevel ! Also your 3k allows rapid metal removal that is so very visible ! To refine the edge 8 & 12 is again genius as so clearly visible from the striations of the 3k . My Filly tridur you concave beveled is unbeatable although Barely visible I believe the concave bevel is still having it's effect? Your simplified concave method makes perfect sense !. ( I might even try it , but I'm not that confident yet ? ) 👍
Excellent Gary thanks for sharing your master honing , I won a krop on eBay await to see if it’s crap or krop. As I shave more I’ll need to lean this and get some stones I still have to try a synthetic edge I am still using your coticule from Martin 👍
Great video Gary and another angle to take from. I did my Drew Dick & Son 8/8 1/4 hollow fixed blade and it shaves nicely. Will look forward to the shave and hear your thoughts. Have a great week. Very best regards Gordon 👍
@@garyhaywood6013 it does give hone wear though and deeper across the centre of the blade. But I think it is worth it for the comfort of the shave. It is either that or shorten blade length more quickly and hone with tape and through time end up with issues of double bevel. I look at it that every blade has an intended life span. And I don't really have any show Queens as Bill puts it. Best regards Gordon
Hi Gary, do you think Naniwas are suitable stones for this method? You know Naniwas that need flattening. They change shape quickly. I just got the plate from a friend, but I'm not sure which stones to start with :)
More great work Gary. Many times like to use the term “hollow bevel” to avoid some of the terminology confusion. Thanks for taking the time to share. Greetings SuperCurve fans 😎 Calling @straightfacedwithluecke3265 take some notes here, you have these tools, take them for a whirl
Sorry Micheal I've never used the long axis shape to back bevel as it's not shaped steep enough. I've used the short axis then the long axis then flat this time I skipped the long axis and gone from short axis then flat
@@michaelshults7675 the long axis creates a height spot in the middle like elliptical. It makes it easier to hit the whole bevel on razors that have slight warp . Jarred did explain to me why Dovo make there finishing hone in this way maybe if he or bill see this they will explain why better than I can . I do no that you have shape your stone on the short axis to create the concave bevel then it's a case of finishing on the very apex with a flat hone .
