SUPER DANGANRONPA 2.5: Nagito Komaeda vs The Destroyer of the World Mini-Analysis & Theories 

Hey guys! Hope you enjoy the video! There was a lot more to analyze in this OVA than I originally thought. Also in the video, I realized I use the word projection to mean two different things. First I mean it as in Komaeda projecting his desires or what he subconsciously wants for his fellow classmates if he could give his good luck to them. And then later in the video I mean it as a psychological defense mechanism, which is where one misattributes their own feelings onto someone else. I didn’t realize that using the same word to mean two different things might be confusing until after I finished editing and re-watched it. But like I said in the video, hopefully I’m not too rusty at this! I’m sure I’ll get back in the swing of it eventually. Also, I’m sure it goes without saying but the Nagito shipping Naegi/Maizono bit was a joke. I think them dating or whatever was going on in this OVA with them is more of an occurrence based on this possibility of him (and everyone really) living a normal life. Although maybe Komaeda’s good luck transferred to Naegi and made him much better at picking up girls haha.

The coolest easter egg in my opinion was the fact that Komaeda killed himself by shooting a gun _away_ from his head, whereas in Chapter 4 of SDR2 he did _not_ kill himself by shooting a gun pointed _to_ his head.

There was the Leon easter egg; he gave Nagito a signed baseball

Another easter egg you could have talked about was when Nagito was starting to wake up- Hajime was leaning over him calling to him in a parallel way to the beginning of the Danganronpa 2 game, where those two were switched around.

I feel like the friendship with Souda and Kuzuryu is connected to the time they spent back in the fun house. I think that because when the players played as Komaeda there were more interactions between the three of them then Komaeda and Tanaka. That being said Komaeda might of thought at some point this could count as some form of friendship forming and it could have developed if there wasn't his luck.

1)Everybody seems to miss the fact that there is no Ultimate Despair in this OVA. Junko is acting as Ryoko (Ultimate Analist, DR Zero character) and Mokuro is crashing in Naegi (DR if character), so no despair vs hope (Chiaki) clash is possible. 2) Despite Komaeda saying, he still has Ultimate GOOD luck and can abuse it. He turns some cat's scratches into a Leon signed ball (probably worth millions) and use it to attack Izuru 3) The OVA focus in the characters that made it to the last trial. Maybe Nagito sees them as full of hope?

one easter egg i noticed is that when hajime wakes up komaeda at the end of the ova it's almost exactly the same as the beginning of sdr2 what komaeda wakes up hajime

I liked the OVA, then again I like anything Nagito-related. I agree with everything in here, though I have to wonder what's the symbolism of some smaller events like when he pinned Fuyuhiko to the wall or when Hiyoko and Mikan were walking together, etc.

Izuru is such a little kid in this. Pointing his fingers like pretend guns. All the other kids were good actors too, shooting out blood and stuff. Also glad to have you back Weeby!

Someone on tumblr, I forgot who, which I'm rather disappointed in myself in, but someone pointed out that all the squares around AI Izuru/Hajime was similar to that of the pattern on Komaeda's jacket's right shoulder (our left)

If Chiaki not presenting in the OVA serves as one of his defense machanism then the same might go for Hinata. Compare to his other classmate, Hinata is more likely the closest to him (which is probably why he has that flashback of Hinata smiling at him). Hinata might also represent hope. This OVA seems to confirm that Komaeda also learned about Hinata being Kamukura Izuru from the file he got after playing Russian Roulette because from what I recalled he never knew Kamukura's name from both the anime and chapter 0. In this OVA, I haven't seen Kamukura told his name then how come Komaeda knows him? In SDR2, the way Komaeda acted to Hinata after Final Dead Room makes it seems like he hated the fact that Hinata is just a Reserve Course student but maybe there's something more like he's disappoint with the supposed Ultimated Hope being an Ultimate Dispair (sorry if this is all over the place)

What you said in this video about Nagito's bad luck only affecting him while his good luck only affects his classmates in this imaginary world reminds me of something you said in your Nagito Komaeda Character Analysis. You suggested that Nagito felt responsible for his parents' deaths - for ALL the bad things that happen around him, actually. You suggested that he believed his never-ending cycle of good and bad luck caused all those bad things to happen to the people around him, and you suggested that he felt a lot of guilt because of this. I think SUPER DANGANRONPA 2.5: NAGITO KOMAEDA AND THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS more-or-less proves your theory. In this imagery world - which is supposed to be a reflection of Nagito's desires - his luck CAN'T hurt the people around him. I think it's ALSO possible that the imaginary world was trying to reflect Nagito's desire to have friends. In the comments section underneath a different RU-vidr's Reaction and Review video for SUPERDANGANRONPA 2.5: NAGITO KOMAEDA AND THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS, I noticed a lot of people speculating why Nagito wanted to be friends with Fuyuhiko and Kazuichi. Their comments and theories reminded me of something Nagito told Hajime in his final Free Time Event. He had told Hajime about his diseases, but he had also told him that, more than anything, he wanted to be loved. There has always been speculation over whether Nagito was lying or telling the truth in that final Free Time Event, but I believe SUPER DANGANRONPA 2.5: NAGITO KOMAEDA AND THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS proves that he WAS telling the truth. The imaginary world reflected Nagito's desire to be loved. I actually think it's possible Hajime/Izuru realized that Nagito wanted friends near the end of the Hope's Peak Academy Saga. When I first watched DANGANRONPA 3: THE END OF HOPE'S PEAK ACADEMY, Hope Arc and SUPER DANGANRONPA 2.5: NAGITO KOMAEDA AND THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS, I was surprised to see Hajime being relatively nice to Nagito (I know they didn't have THAT many interactions with each other in either episode, but it still stood out to me). After reading people's comments and remembering Nagito's final Free Time Event, I began to think that Hajime/Izuru somehow realized that Nagito was lonely and that the things that he said were probably true. I know the Izuru AI said something about making sure no one in the outside could see into Nagito's thoughts for privacy reasons, but since Hajime/Izuru created that AI - since he was the one who helped Nagito and the others wake up from their comas - I wonder if it WAS possible for Hajime/Izuru to see into Nagito's thoughts and discover the truth. Or could he have figured it out some other way? Regardless, if he DID learn the truth about Nagito, maybe he decided to TRY to be nicer to him and get along with him better.

First, I just gotta say that I loved that Komaeda's image of Naegi became this super cool/suave guy. Even in a dream world with no hope, Komaeda idolizes Naegi xD As for one thing that I'm still trying to wrap my head fully around, it's that the OVA seems to confirm that Komaeda wanted/believed Hinata and the others would make it out of the Neo World Program when he set up his murder. I'd heard the theory before, and I could see some of the points that were suggested, but I still hadn't fully signed onto that theory. But the way Komaeda talks to Hinata when he first gets out of the program suggests that that's exactly what he believed would happen.

I feel like Mikan would be Nagito's projection of regret, while Peko could be the desire to protect the ones he holds dear. Sonia could be the projection of love and Kuzuryu might be courage? maybe? (yeah I couldn't think of anything even half intelligent for Kuzuryu). These are all things that Nagito preferred to keep hidden from others. We never see him say that he really regrets anything in the games, the same goes for protecting others and love (he hides this by saying he wants to protect hope and loves hope, we can see an example of this when he does his half-assed "confession" to Hajime in the games when you get 6 hope fragments). I'm not sure about courage, but it could tie to the fact that he doesn't show his real non-psycho self (the self that wants real friends and people that care about him) worrying about what people think of his ACTUAL self.

i saw one other cool easter egg. When Nagito woke up from the psyche, the stance that Hajime was in, looming over Nagito, is identical to when Hajime woke up on the beach in the beginning of SDR2. Pretty interesting right?

In my perspective, the Sayaka and Naegi moments here, show the possibility of how the two of them will interact with one another without talents holding them back. We can see here that Naegi has more confidence and shows what he thinks or feels while Sayaka does not hide her true feelings anymore since she's not the Ultimate Idol in this world. In here, no one will judge Sayaka. And she also does not think that the only thing that gives her value to others is her talents for being an idol. While Naegi is not comparing himself to others anymore.

one thing that you didnt really touch on (or did i just miss it i was half asleep when i watched this lmao) are the parts where Komaeda mulls on how he hates or despises talent, and that he wishes there was no talent so everyone is equal. this really confused and interested me, because if that world and that komaeda are really what komaeda's desires were, that means even though he killed himself for hope and praised talent excessively, he really deep down wishes for a world where everyone was equal. though im not really sure because that twists his whole character. and at the end he admits that he couldnt believe he said he wanted a world with no talent though that might be him just denying it.

Are we not going to talk about the fact that Sonia pulled out a freaking rocket launcher out of nowhere? Because from the others they looked shocked that she even had that thing and I'm pretty sure you can't hide a rocket anywhere on your body even if you tried??

something from the 2.5 ova that makes me really really happy is how when nagito wakes up one of the first things he does is go and give kazuichi and fuyuhiko hugs like that was so SWEET and made me so happy

Wouldn't the appearance of Junko as Ryoko also imply that she's never become neither the Ultimate Despair, nor the Ultimate Fashionista and just ended up sticking to her original Ultimate title of the Ultimate Analyst? So even that is kind of a projection of good luck unto someone else...

Another easter egg (kinda): near the end of the ova we get to see him with junko's arm as his right arm, and then later we see this same arm just as he is about to go on the boat and it appears to have been replaced with a mechanical arm.

that fact that soda says he doesnt like nagito in the despair arc and hes like best friends with nagito in the 2.5-

This dream world of Nagito, in my opinion, is his true self and deepest desire. This will not excuse for his misdeeds or anything like that in the real world, but I think this world show that he is really a kind person deep down. Look at the world, where everyone is happy and everything is good and he is the only one who has bad luck (he also says he doesnt mind the have bad luck as long as it mean others get good luck, what a boy!) The school is peaceful, his classmates get along well, even the Warriors of Hope and the villains-in-real-life are living happily in harmony here. Even for Souda, Sonia in his world begin to respond to Souda's feeling, what I am not so sure would happen in reality. He really wishes well for all people he knows, does he not? It makes me sad about how kind he is. In this, he is still a bit weird, but mostly a normal aloof boy, with bros to do normal things and cheer each other on. Some normal boy who has friends. His hate for talent, which only shows how he wish for a normal life, how he wish for everybody to live happily (without talent, maybe Junko would not cause that world destruction, nor anyone around him being hurt). I hate that he has to wake up and deny all of that, for that would not ever happen in real life and he is too intelligent to know it is no use to cling to a false hope which may lead to despair. I hate it more that no one knows about this side of his, the heart so kind in a life so cruel. Hinata may be his friends in the end, but it is not enough for me. I want to see him being loved, by a lover or by a best friend. His Island Mode shows his fear of hurting people around him that there is always a distance between him and others. I wish for a friend who is actively closing that distance to love him.

I'll be honest, I found this OVA fast paced. But I guess it was just 25 minutes into Nagito's mind. And I'm REALLY GLAD they explained how almost everyone from DR2 woke up from coma.

I mean this is pretty obvious, but the Warriors of Hope can be seen in the same scene as Mukuro and the others.

Apparently in DR3 "Chiaki" said that she was just an AI taking an appearence of Chiaki, because she was the person that everyone in SDR2 heavily desires to see again. Now look at the World Destroyer :,)

A couple ideas I had that weren't mentioned. I believe the Naegi/Maizono scene was based on his idealising Naegi a lot, and it was probably maizono because she fit into the trope he imagined Naegi would fit into, attractive perfect guy getting with attractive perfect girl. One thing I noticed is every person in Nagito's ideal world is happy, regardless of talent or what they did in reality. That includes the UDG kids (plus no mask on jataro), who treated him badly and did evil things. The only people not in his world are hope (chiaki) and despair (junko). This ties into there being good luck for everyone else but also I think it shows that Nagito wants the best for all these people, he wants everyone else to be happy, even the kids who treated him badly. His fantasy is a world where there is no hope vs despair, just simple happiness. I also think Nagito's social inability is shown in this too. He sees Fuyuhiko and Kazuichi as like his best friends in this, but in the real world they're much less close. I feel like that's because Nagito simply doesn't understand that Fuyuhiko and Kazuichi don't feel the same way toward him as he does towards them. Nagito's tendency towards self-destruction is evident too. He's willing to kill himself to protect his friends and that world's happiness. I think that's due to multiple things. Not only his lack of self-worth but also his life-threatening disease. I also think that the idea that Nagito only has bad luck in this one is also representative of how he sees his own luck cycle as bad luck, as a burden rather than a talent. And I think his admiration towards talent in the real world is a little bit bitter and maybe he might hate talent after all.

Mukuro being in the background is kind of a reference to Danganronpa IF, it a novel in a “what if scenario” and it’s revealed the Mukuro actually had a crush on Naegi

One Easter egg that was probably noticed by everyone- The baseball that shatters the window in the nurse's office was actually hit by Leon Kuwata, who later signed the ball for Komaeda as a way of saying sorry

In the OVA, he suffers from bad luck, but it benefits others. I think that this is one of his desires because his whole life he was a 'poison'- he had good luck while others suffered from his bad luck. This sorta ties in with his desire to be a stepping stone, too

I know I’m super late but, Has anyone noticed that Komaeda gets very close to Souda and Kuzuryuu, Which Hinata also does during the second game. Like Hinata and Souda are “soul friends” and Hinata and Kuzuryuu in his FTEs do a “brother oath” Hinata kinda gets closest to them out of the survivors or kinda anyone else on the island. Just wanted to point that out. Also, I understand why Nanami isn’t there but why not Hinata? I mean if they got rid of the reserve course and it was just a normal school wouldn’t he still attend? I understand why he wasn’t one of his “classmates” but why not even attend the school? I actually kinda confused why. I thought he’d at least be in the back ground just walking around kinda how Komaeda saw Hinata during despair side. But he wasn’t *anywhere* I think that’s what confuses me.

Small things put when nagito was walking some background character were shown and the judging by what they were holding there was a ultimate knitter,ultimate basketball player, ultimate kendo person (idk what you call someone who does kendo). Also the kids from ultra despair girls and since that one kid was not wearing a mask I can only assume in this world they live a happy and normal life (including Monica)

Naegiri is made to be so canon that kirigiri can magically survive from death in danganronpa 3. (dont hate it tho just stating the truth, like i myself dont have any otp for makoto) Also i see remnant of hope kids there from danganronpa another series. Also i think this ova represent how nagito wants to absorb the bad luck and gives the good luck to people around him as an opposite to his actual self that have super good luck that makes everyone around him (randomly like he doesnt know who will have a bad luck as big as the good luck that he receive). Like his phrase in game that says that he feels like he has a very Good luck that day hanging with hinata that he is not surprise if one or two person he knows have death 😂... Poor nagito. All he wants is end of the good and bad luck in his life.

I know this is late but I think that the scene with Hiyoko and Mikan in which they appear together may hint that Komaeda actually doesn't put mind into Mikan's "accidents" and that he just believes it is just clumsiness judging by how she just tripped because of his badluck. In my opinion I think this happens because he actually does not sexualize Mikan. Anyway that is just my thought, I know it is not as important as the other easter eggs but I believe it is worth pointing out.

I think Chiaki's original death really did bother him, he's basically the only one talking about it as he and his classmates fall into Junko's despair. Plus, he was the one who lead all of them down into Junko's trap.

I would like to say once again that it's nice to see you back. As for thr OVA it sucks that its was an exclusive thing for Japan when they got the game and it would have been nice to own at least a digital copy of it at least :p. Anyway from what you spoke of it it seems like an odd mix of fan service and character development. Granted it's always a treat to see what our favorite psycho is up to. Wait, the Warriors of Hope were also there in that 'Easter egg scene'... how are they there if this is Komeada... while still inside The Neo World program or whatever? He wouldn't have know about them at that time, but I've watched Dangan 3 so excuse me if I'm just being stupid, but I'm pretty sure Nagito's only interaction with them is when he falls into despair/has already fallen into despair in Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls, where he helps Monaca and such and such... maybe I'm just being misinformed or just overlooked something... but that's what I noticed.... I don't know, it's confusing for me.
