Easy Chili Verde | Simple Dutch Oven Chili Verde | Chili Verde Recipe
It's Memorial Day in the US, so we're getting family together and making simple Dutch oven Chile Verde! This is what you'll need:
Ingredients:
- 3 to 3 ½ lbs. pork shoulder, cut into three or four chunks
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, add a little more if needed
- 1 onion sliced thin
- Jar of medium green salsa (14 to 16 oz size)
- 7 to 8 oz canned diced green chiles
- Salt and pepper
- 1/3 cup of water
Garnishes: sour cream, jack or cheddar or cotija cheese, cilantro, avocadoes, tortilla chips
Directions:
- Heat medium sized dutch oven to medium high heat.
- Put part of the oil in the dutch oven along with part of the pork, brown the pork on all sides, continue until all the pork has been browned.
- After cooling a bit, cut the pork into 1-inch chunks.
- Season pork with salt and pepper.
- Place onion in dutch oven with a little oil, salt and pepper and cook until translucent, 3 - 4 minutes.
- Add the pork chunks, canned green chilis, green salsa and water to the dutch oven.
- Bring to a boil, cover and cook until pork is tender. Let sit 10 minutes.
- Serve as a stew with desired garnishes.
Chile Verde is also delicious served over rice and beans, or on burritos, or with eggs for breakfast.
