Great design! Similar to when I changed a lightbulb in my kitchen and I had to remove drywall off the ceiling. Except that didn’t happen. Who the F makes “changing a lightbulb”, which used to be the butt of a joke for “easy” into a full blown engineering project?

Hi guys. Had got the Dome light. But I think I got the wrong Millimeter. 42mm instead of 44mm. And it works. But when the car moves or I close the doors. It spins upside down. The LED gets covered. Can I exchange it for a 44mm. And do you think that will solve the problem with the spinning? Thx👍

There are 2 clips in the sunglasses holder near those 8mm screws that should be depressed. Makes it easier.

Rick G. I should have read your comment first. Just installed my bulbs today and I actually broke those clips off trying to get the console out. I put it back with Gorilla glue. Letting it sit overnight. Hope it holds...

Thank you for this!!!! I was stuck and came and watched video only to see that he removed the screws but then ended up not even removing the sunglasses holder, he just removed the bezel. By pushing the two clips in that you’re mentioning along with removing the two screws and pull down the front of the console out of the clip holders with a trim tool... the entire assembly came out. Thanks and thank goodness I happened to check the comments, otherwise I definitely would have had broken clips.

For anyone with a 2020 Bighorn I was able to take a tiny screwdriver as someone else mentioned and pop the cover out. I then use some small needle nose pliers to pop the bulb out. From there it was simple to slide the LED Bulb in.

Thanks for your sharing. So you just pop out the cover directly, then to replace the OEM halogen bulb with LED bulbs, right?

Yes that’s correct. I was not able to pull out the halogen with my fingers so I used the small pliers to pop it out. After that the LED was easy to slide in.

It’s possible. But doing it that way is gonna pose a serious risk of damaging the metal clips that hold the bulbs in place and supply power. I know from experience. I still ended up having to take the whole pice down to repair the clips I bent up. The light bulb is off set from the hole which makes changing them that way very risky. I pulled down the main unit and didn’t take the rest of it apart. I then pulled out the plastic light covers and the reflective inside part under the plastic clear cover and it was pretty easy. I ended up rebending the metal connectors back in place but still ended up having to put a small zip tie around them to the bulb to stop the flicker. Long story short, I’ll never try to replace them through the lens cover alone. It was a big pain in the ass. Dropping the entire thing was easy and less head ache.

You really need to redo this video correctly. As another comment mentioned, there are two clip releases near the two screws. In one part of the video you are prying between the console and the headliner giving wrong instructions that will damage the truck, then in the next you show the tech holding the trim that’s part of the console but not the part you were prying on. I bought these lights and installed them and they actually work great, but this video devalues the rest of your tutorials since I can’t trust them after watching this catastrophe. Anyone else reading this, nothing should be forced like it is in this video, find another or you will break the console.

Had to spend $150 for a new assy because I busted two tabs off. Your instructions don't mention the two tabs near the front bolts that have to be pressed. Lesson learned. Better videos out there showing the proper procedure.

I just did my map lights and I removed the plastic lenses and popped the bulbs out and put my new ones in and they are working perfect. I didn’t remove the whole set up

LASFIT Auto Lighting a small flat head to pop the lenses and bulbs out. Had to be very precise placing the bulb in. Loving the lights though! My truck inside is super bright now. Also did the cab lights. Waiting on my headlight package to show up tomorrow and that will be my next project!

I had led map lights in a vehicle a couple years ago. Even with this lights off, the ambient current in the system would make them have a faint glow. Will these do the same?

Hi, a lot of customers installed these LED bulbs on their Ram truck, but nobody feedback such issue so far.

Probably scratched up the contact points on the light which cause ground problems. Change bulbs and put them in gently.

Just did this on my 2021 RAM Rebel. I wasn’t aware that the socket for the bulb was as flimsy as it was. Putting in the new LED in the driver map light, the socket broke. I was able to somewhat bend it back so it makes contact again. But now when I turn the switch on, just for the driver map light, all the interior lights come on.

I did the same thing. If you didn’t damage the other map light, you can see exactly where the metal clips should contact the light bulb and then secure it around the bulb with a small zip tie. It’s also possible that you scratched the hell out of the metal contact points on the led bulb which grounds them out and causes issues. (I did that too). But I was able to re bend my connectors and zip tie and my lights are working properly.

@@rl2769 After I posted that, I brought that whole piece inside, to have better lighting. Once I got the new LED’s put in, I used a very small amount of super glue to hold the metal strip from the socket in place. Worked like a charm. To this day, I still don’t understand why car manufacturers are using incandescent bulbs.

@@tfitz44 good idea. Tiny zip tie worked for me. I think it’s to risky to try to change the map lights with out dropping the the entire fixture. It was way more easier and you are less likely to damage the flimsy clips that hold and power the bulbs.

What was the point of taking out the 8mm bolts if you didn't remove the whole unit? Your method didn't work for me. My unit has SOS buttons and I believe they are screwed on because I wasn't able to unclip the trim where the buttons were so I unscrewed the 8mm bolts and brought down the whole unit. I then removed the lens caps with a very thin razor blade after that I pushed out the bulbs from the back side of the unit and installed the leds and all done. I'd say it was a lot easier than prying the trim apart from the unit and potentially breaking the clips that hold it in place.

It's a little complicated to get the bulbs. You need to remove the inner circuit board to reach the bulbs. According to the video gudei, actually, it is not very hard. 😄

If you use a standard Sylvania LED from Wally World or your local auto store. The map light number is Sylvania 194 and dome is Sylvania 578. Be careful on which one you buy as they come in multiple colors. If you want just plain white, stick with the Sylvania "194". Any Sylvania led bulbd number with a letter after, such as 194-b, will be a colored bulb. Saw them in amber, blue and red. Hope that helps. One lastvery important thing, make sure the led bulb wires are contacting the metal clasp when inserting your map lights. One of mine didn't work immediately and I saw 1 led bulb wire not contacted the metal retainer clasp. Hope that helps.

Not true at all. People will more than likely ruin or damage the delicate clips that hold the bulb and supply power. Way easier and safer to pop it off.

I think it’s a bit strange in that method is so easy on a 5 th gen in this day and age of youtube popularity, you won’t can’t find one video of installing the maps lights through the cover only on the entire platform. Yes, there is a video of a guy doing it in a way older model. Big on the 5th gens the bulb is offset from the hole in the reflective lens under the plastic lens cover. And the clips that hold and power the bulbs are just as flimsy as a bread bag tie. I’m not saying it’s impossible to change them through the lens cover. But it’s highly unlikely. And way more risky and difficult. .. unless taking two screws out and unplugging 2 connectors seems like hard work. At the end of the day it’s bad advice to persuade people to change them theu the lens. Unless of corse you can produce a video of you doing it effortlessly unedited.

Super Easy? Delete this video, unless you are comfortable with this kind of stuff people will surely break clips. They can in fact be changed by just popping the lenses….I’d much rather have to replace one of those if it happens to break than go through this complex routine for a bulb swap lol
