I'm kind of upset Hetler never made it into any Advance Wars games. He seems like a cool character.

The COs in Super Famicom Wars that don't have day to day abilities actually have different AIs; Rogenski is considered to have the weakest all around AI, Von Rosso is offense oriented with poor defense, Hetler is defense oriented with poor offense, and Yuan Delta is considered to be the most competent and hardest AI. Each CO is also ranked with difficulty stars and Yuan Delta is the only one ranked 3 stars; above all the others without day to day abilities. The day to day power COs have 4 except Yamamoto which is the only CO with a 5 star difficulty rating. If you hit X for info on the CO screen it'll show you this information.

Nell's Japanese name is Catherine, and Caroline Day 2 Day, according to Kartal has Luck Defense and Luck attack, so she not only hit harder than she is supposed to but also take less damage than she is supposed to.

Railways are a pretty cool idea, kind've a shame they basically got replaced by Pipes in AW. I also like how ships actually show battle damage as they lose HP to show why they aren't doing as much damage.

The other fun thing about the four average COs is that they all have different build orders and preferred units.

I was really hoping someone would try to bring back Hetler's theme in Mangsvance wars.

The philosophy in SFW is very intresting since powers don't exist, there's no way to do a brutal comeback and it becomes a war of attrition where keeping units alive is very important due to the experience mechanic.

I played this intensively for a year when the translation patch was first released. Billy Gates was my go-to CO. War funding flowed under Gates. Those heavy duty tanks rolled in pairs down the boulevard.

Man, this brings back memories, I always find myself starting to fall asleep after watching Super Famicom wars for a while, but despite that I find the relative obscurity and unique visuals of it enough to make me want to keep watching it even if it means I have to go watch something else ever once in a while and come back in order to wake back up so I can continue watching. Perhaps I subconsciously find that Super Famicom Wars just makes me feel really relaxed and that's why I start to get sleepy.

Crazy how the AI used to be better before GBA... though the gameplay is certainly not as good as AW. I'm not colorblind and the green and gray was definitely difficult to keep track of lol

I thought Advance Wars couldn't get any cuter, but here we are. Adorable infantry animations!! I'd love for them to have more animations along those lines in new Advance Wars games.

I was playing this a week or two ago as everyone's favorite CO, Hetler. I noticed my units would end up doing less damage regularly facing the exact same units on the exact same terrain, wasn't even facing one the special COs.

Got to figure that the Rail Turtle was an inspiration for the Piperunner in Dual Strike. I wouldnt mind seeing this unit back though in either a future AW title or in Commander Wars

This is interesting. I wonder if the Rail Trains would be the precursor to the Piperunners in Dual Strike. Also the whole unit level up... that's from Days of Ruin. If we ever do get a BRAND new Advance Wars game, I want it to take bits from other Advance Wars games and incorporate something brand new. I wouldn't mind if it's a game that follows a different timeline.

Thank you so much for this glorious surprise Mangs, been playing a bunch of Super Famicom Wars myself and I gotta agree with you, this game has it’s own unique charm and identity compared to the GBA games. For one, if you shoot a loaded Lander with units on it you can see the unit passengers getting nervous that the Lander is going to sink, little details like that are what I love and it adds to the soul of the game!❤️

Mangsvance wars version of Hetler. Day 2 Day: All direct combat units have +1 move and +30% firepower but takes 1 damage each time they attack. Inditects and transport are unchanged. COP, 4 stars: Increase firepower to +60% and movement to +2 movement but also increases self damage to 2. SCOP, 8 stars: COP but without the self damage.

Caroline's luck appears to be quite astronomical, as seen at 25:43: her *1 HP* Light Tank caused *2 HP* to the Infantry unit controlled by Hetler, a *defense-over-offense* CO. Not to mention her luck taking *every* defense star super serious, as evidenced by 27:08. Truly *The Femme Of Fortune* of the 90's Famicom Wars!

3:33 Just noticed you cannot build missiles due to lack of airports. Kinda funny how Advance Wars will let you do that despite being more user friendly everywhere else.

We need an updated Rom Hack of this version that addresses all the little conveniences such as skipping the animation and seeing the unit number and so on. It would be amazing

This is kind of why I've been a little worried that they're not going to make any adjustments to the campaign missions in Reboot Camp. Imagine something like AC Rivals! with this kind of AI, if not better. It's going to go from "barely possible with an AI exploit and shittons of luck" to "flat-out impossible."

This game looks surprisingly good for being a Famicom/NES game, it's rather incredible how much they managed to fit within the game. The animations and visuals are really neat and it's really interesting to see how this game in some way have aspects that are more complex than AW.

honestly i never understood why the battle ship in advance wars had anti airguns in its battle animation but could not attack air it was baffling especially for its cost honestly it would have been nicer if it they had kept the famicon wars battle ship over it for sure. whilst simultaneous attacks maybe dislike in the terms of wars it makes sense your infantry wont just stand there and not attack until opponent has been attached unless it has been flanked of some sorts. the animations are great and you can see the animations they made for the commanding officers when attacking/ defending its really nicely done for a game so old would love to try this out as its cool to see how they changed a lot of advance wars from super famicon for sure. i am glad dark conflict days of ruin kept the promotion mechanic although lowering it from 5 promotions to 3 but all of them get defense is a nice touch can definetly see the viability of more units here for sure. if this episode had a title it would be called the rail turtle massacre would love to see a english lets play of this for sure now that all the translations are out
