funn fact about the first glitch: this isn't just a visual glitch to hold nearby objects, it lets you actuelly clone them a youtuber by the name "pannenkoek2012" has documented this glitch in detail along with other things
this is also extremely powerful i highly suggest anyone remotely interested in seeing SM64 torn down to its absolute rawest core and turned into a literal fucking science, all in the name of beating the game without pressing A, ever. (CURRENTLY POSSIBLE AS OF RECENT BTW!)
I thought it’s like to rock unloading glitch in Ocarina of Time. The box unload so Mario is instead holding the object that’s loaded in the same register of the unloaded box.
13:35 The reason he dies is because right there is technically out of bounds and when you get out of bounds it instantly kills you, The reason your hat disappears is because it loads Mario in and then his hat. But kills you before the process completes. I probably described this wrong but it's in like an 8 hour video about borders in mario64 lol
@@CWillyHDI literally had to show my fiancé who knows nothing about this game and had her listen and I had to explain you paused instead of pausing. It was REALLY good and was surprised no one else has done it
My man knew about cloning but he didn't know about cloning. The most reliable way to do this is by catching an exploding bobomb. If you pick up any object just as the game removes it, you end up holding the slot in memory where the item was stored. You can then load things into that slot and "carry" them around. You can then drop or throw the item and it will be teleported to your location in a glitchy state. If you cloned an object that is respawned by another entity then you are able to keep cloning it until you crash the game. The glitch where Mario loses cap and dies on the castle wall is because he clipped into the OoB area. If Mario enters an Out of Bounds area, he dies
13:39 if the game thinks an action has taken you out of bounds, such as entering a door or climbing a ledge you will die. This is similar to how you die if you are stuck squished for a short while.
Worth noting with the cap hold glitches 1. Can also be done in Shifting Sand Land. Similar to Snowman's as the bird can steal it, knock it out of the bird's talons, then teleport with the oasis tree. The monkey steals it again if you knock it out in TTM, from memory, so I don't think it can be done there, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong. 2. It's not just a visual glitch. It slightly extends Mario's punch. 3. Mario takes extra damage from holding a cap, the same as if he isn't wearing it.
Fun fact about the mother penguin clip: if you fall through the floor with the mother like the video says so, you gotta do a quick turn around at the EXACT same frame when free falling. If done correctly, the "impossible" cottage door will open.
8:03 This Glitch, I've known about since I was a kid, is famously possible in Snowman's Land. I believe the way you activate it by having the snowman blow your hat off, then you use a teleporter and return to the wall near The Deep Freeze with three Snowmaids next to it. There should be two hats there now (Actually, there will be as many hats as the number of times you used the teleporter minus one). Collect two of them to put it in his hand. In the guidebook where I found it, it was titled "Dangerous Man with a Hat".
@@CWillyHD Ah! There it is. Thanks! Also I chuckled at the self-depricating humor you put in there. Like when you tried to dive into the Tall Tall Mountain painting and missed, and just splashed the word "bozo" on the screen.
there is a funny video where swankybox turned bowser into a zombie by adding water to the arena; quite a few things happened but later bowser was floating in mid air in the center of the arena with his eyes closed. when swankybox lowered the water to grab him again, bowser recovered from floating and he opened his eyes. however, since he was thrown at a bomb already, the hitbox to grab his tail wasn't there anymore xD
Hat in had goes even deeper than what was demonstrated here, even during the showcase of it in action there was something that happened where the bob-omb disappeared and I hoped further explanation followed because oh boy is there a lot to unpack from that point lol Essentially the thrown object would teleport to the position of the last held object, which never gets updated during the hat in hand glitch. Combining this to the previous glitch (cloning) makes the game go completely nut in a systematic way where things can be manipulated, allowing all sort of exploits, it's really amazing what could be done when these 2 glitches are combined during runs that aim to the fewest number of A button presses.
It's amazing to learn why these glitches happen and how to manipulate them, pannenkoek has tons of videos breaking down whats exactly going on behind the scenes to break normal gameplay
It's so confusing to me why Nintendo used the Shindou version, but then later used the original SM64 for the N64 online service app. Ig mfs have to pay to BLJ.
Seeing you discover glitches like cloning from scratch has the same energy as when Pannen discovered Parallel Universes and called them "some sort of limbo"
i’m sure by now everyone told you that you cloned the chain chomp pivot but what they didn’t tell you is that you had the chain chomp unloaded when you tried to start the cutscene
It’s true but that was a mistake by the dev as they forgot to put a speed cap on Mario for how fast he can travel backwards. It’s sad that they removed from SM3DA but I can understand they want to fix that glitch that was never intended for the player to do anyway.
I remember doing the duplicate/ stacked mario cap 8 years ago on the Nintendo Ds by complete accident i did it only 5 times in a row and the game started glitched guess the DS hardware wasnt as strong as the switch today
@CWilly: I found another glitch related with hold Mario Cap's in hand glitch, the first part that I will mention is not the new glitch only the second part. The first part is you notice that mario will take damage as if he got no hat when the hat is in hand. This glitch is an add on to the Mario Cap's in hand glitch, it is called fake hat protection glitch, the first thing you need to do is to lose your hat, then when you lose you hat, any power-up block near a wall, so you can do the hat in hand glitch, without having a hat. The once you have the power-up hat in your hand wait for the power-up to run out, you will notice the power-up hat will stay in your hand but the power-up feature of it still disappear, then talk to an Npc to put the hat on your head, so that way you have a fake hat providing protection without having to get the original hat, but because it is a fake hat it is only for within the level, you leave the level the fake hat disapear, and also if you go in a sub level the fake hat also disappear. What happen if the condor does not have the real hate, and you have the fake hat, the condor can't steal the fake hat just like he can't steal a power-up hat.
For the mario holding the cap glitch, when you talk to any character, the game always checks if you have the cap on your hand, which is why mario puts his hat back on after talking to a boss or something Don't take this seriously though, as this is just my theory, since the pink bob-ombs also make mario put his hat back on, and may not work with other characters
Thanks for the video! I found a new glitch. When you ground pound to make the bob-omb float, if you leave, he will respawn, but just as a normal bob-omb! he will not float if you do it again.
2:30 That is actually Chain Chomp's pivot you cloned. It's an invisible object that determines where the chomp is attached to. Pannenkoek2012 has some videos demonstrating it.
The death glitch at the top of the castle is actually known as out of bounds if mario moves at any time his cap will be reseted and it will be gone that is the first step done but before the second step there's a check if he is out of bounds then stop doing the second and third step and also he will have to die and he will be exited the level but if he's non in a level like peach's castle or her backyard and frontyard he will spawn on where you usually with spawn if you died in those areas and the second step is just making a move. Third step is just making mario put back his cap without playing the animation of him putting his cap on.
20:30 this doesn’t work with a d-pad on most versions. 3d all stars let us control Mario with a d-pad, but the original n64 never did, same with many rereleases
You absolutely fool Mario 64 is not like any modern game. It doesn't get release patches. Like every other game, the only patch I got was in the shindo version and even then that still has all of the glitches except backwards long jumping.
man that title is so goofy I just had to laugh at it for a few seconds, the fuck do you mean "that STILL WORK" bro 😭they didn't make weekly online patches for this game 💀💀💀
