Every game has it's own way to full completion. In Super Mario Galaxy 2 the Comet Medals are one of these ways to obtain even more completition of gathering Stars through the universe, along with the new challenges, that every galaxy sets up after an obtained Comet Medal.
Welcome to the video-walkthrough for World 1 and 2!

Every Comet Medals in world 1 and 2 will be shown in the video and to spice it up a bit, a short description is headed further down if the following pictures wouldn't say anything at all to you.
List of the following galaxies in this video:
World 1-
◣ Sky Station Galaxy
Before you head into the Launch Star to the boss, the medal is flowing in the air.
◣ Yoshi Star Galaxy
Almost in the beginning of the galaxy, after you have defeated the witch, continue to the nearest bush and jump on to the device to reach the medal.
◣ Spin-Dig Galaxy
When having the Spin-mechanism equipped, drill down as in the video.
◣ Fluffy Bluff Galaxy
Have the Cloud-suit with you after you have jumped the long distances and use your clouds to reach the medal on this planet, above the water.
◣ Flip-Swap Galaxy
Have the blue-bricks up when achieving this medal which you could "super jump" for.
◣ Rightside Down Galaxy
When your at the two Thwomps-enemies, use wall jumps on them to reach the medal in the air.
◣ Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla
Sorry, it's missing... But just jump on the first Thwomp you see in the beginning of the galaxy and do a back-flip.
World 2 -
◣ Puzzle Plank Galaxy
After being launched from the three ground-pounding things, you must hurry to this medal before the sawclings cut it down.
◣ Hightail Falls Galaxy
At the ending of the galaxy you can see the medal when running upwards with Yoshi.
◣ Boulder Bowl Galaxy
Defeat the 3 enemies to get the Stone Rolling mushroom and use it twice on the purple crystal near your position.
◣ Cosmic Cave Galaxy
After swimming through the cave with tentacles the medal is hidden in a shell under the water. You can almost see it from the beginning when you enter.
◣ Wild Glide Galaxy
You have to pass all 5 gates in this particularly galaxy. Once you've done that, the gate which seals the medal will open.
◣ Honeybloom Galaxy
Just follow the road and you will se it behind one of those "flying molls".
◣ Bowser's Lava Lair
When reaching the two stone dudes, defeat the first one and use the other one's back to get up in the air to the medal.

THanks alot. I don't like having to go through a walkthrough of the entire level just to see where the coin is.

Also the levels in the first game were far more memorable. Remember that one level with the epic music where you had to climb that tall mechanical tower? What about the level with the classic Mario music where everything was made of toys and sweets or the level that was a mixture of fire and ice? Back then the concept of SMG was a new concept and it was mind blowing. I still have fond Wii memories of that game.

I think I find the traps and hazards to be the hard part of this game. The collectables are so easy to find in this game due to the overall linear nature of the levels. Even the main levels are very straightforward. I liked the first game more because the Galaxies were more in depth in terms of exploration making them more memorable. Some say the exploration from SM64 was toned down in Galaxy 1 but in my opinion they toned it down far more in this game.
