Out of the 6 years i owned this game i still didt know this level existed until now

I remember being 11 years old, heading back from school and struggling to complete this level. It took me several days and hundreds of fails, but I finally managed to get the final star and I will never forget the satisfaction I felt in that moment. It was definitely the most challenging videogame experience in my life and I always get emotional when I remember that moments. The sweet childhood times when all I had to worry about was beating the infernal last level of my favorite game.

I want to share this even though it will maybe get lost in the comments. I grew up with this game, kinda. I was 12 or 11 by the time the game was released. And god I loved SMG1 to the point that I was on the line the day SMG2 was releasd. I played through all the levels, got every star, except one. That sudden death star, I think it was a purple commet, from this galaxy. I remember I tried almost every day but I could never beat it since some time after my sensor broke so I couldn't play anymore on my own wii. Honestly it sucked for m, I mean I had like 30+ saved data from different games. But well, that grew there as my childhood frustration. However, last year by coincidence, a friend who is one of those true fans of TLoZ was telling me to play Skyward Sword, since it came out by the time I didn't have a functional wii anymore. She managed to get me one sensor plus the game, now that sounded great and all, but I could only have them for one day, that's it. The first thing i though as I took out my wii was "dang I need to finish this level, I just can't leave it like this". But that would have made me a dick, since the reason I was playing again was to complete Skyward. By tryharding a lot, and I mean a lot(mainly since I've always been the type of promising to never use guides) I was able to complete the game the same day, of course at the cost of not doing anything else, not that I cared anyway. I was so tired I planned to go to sleep, until I saw the box from SMG2 and I just couldn't get my mind out of it. My body went by itself, and I just started playing nonstop all night, to keep it short, after dying a lot, and I mean A LOT. I was finally able to finish it, my last star, my last game from the wii, my frustration. Finally I felt the joy I was anxious to have 8 years ago. That feeling I had that night, reminded me of why I am a gamer, and it showed me, it's never too late to finish what you though imposible.

This level took me an hour to beat, and then I realized I forgot the medal :(

I finally passed Grandmaster Galaxy today! My sister and I gave up on it as kids, and decided to revisit it now that we’re older. My 8 year old self is super proud.

God not even kidding this took me 4 years to beat, I completed all levels ages ago when I was 11 or 12, but I could never do this, so sometime last year during summer I decided to play the game for a bit and I beat it after like 45 minutes lol

2019 update: lol still not there yet I quit playing SMG2 in 2012 still havent done this star. downloaded the game on my wii u still havent done this star

The amount of skill this take is way beyond your standard game or gamer. I don't get why some people are saying Mario is only for kids, hardly any game series comes with so masterful gameplay, precision, perfect controls and timing, sure any kid can pick it up and play it and enjoy the the lush and creative worlds of the Mario games, some might even get the first 60 stars in the Galaxy series and "finish" the games - but only the most skilled players can master these games to such a fine level like the player in this video - heck even a lot of really hardcore Dark Souls players (to take another hard example I love myself) would never be able to finish the final Galaxy at perfect run - or hardly even reach it... I'm realy hoping Nintendo will release Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 in HD remasters on the Switch - those are two of the biggest masterpieces ever in gaming IMO.

This level's comet star was like hell. Remember sitting at the couch for one hour straight just to get that perfect run. But the satisfaction you get after beating it, indescribable.

I can't believe 14 year old me beat this whole game and especially THIS level ten years ago. I look at it and still remember how nightmarish it was at times.

The Perfect Run star, man I remember as a kid I grinded hours for hours daily, to memorize every step to avoid being hit, and finally back than, I completed it 100%

When I made it to the end of this level.. I was crying tears of joy.. It took me an entire summer of constant hours every night trying to beat this one star

Completed the perfect run today. Feels good to finally complete one of my favourite childhood games. Took me about 30 hours to get all 242 stars.

They should’ve given you a bigger reward for completing Grandmaster Galaxy than a freaking picture and Rosalina. Like, give us a nice relaxing level to complete like the first Super Mario Galaxy did!

I just realized, when you do the comet, the Music from Galaxy 1 starts playing! *AWESOME*

One of the best levels nintendo has ever made in a mario game. Such a good mix of flavor and difficulty. Spent hours on end trying to perfect doing the no hit runs.

I think back from long ago and still remember the exact feeling of finally beating this star after endless attempts, it is one of the most satisfying feelings ever.

This guy making it look easy. To those who are watching this for the first time, making the perfect run is NOT that easy. It's very likely to choke due to the unpredectibility it has. Besting the first half is the easy part, but from 7:59 on it's even easier to screw up, not to mention this version of Mario is laggy as hell(probably because of Wii Remotes functioning). This level has arguably the most hardcore difficulty we've seen in a Mario game in decades

Didn't notice until now that in the normal run of grandmaster, the songs that play are 1: the most well known (I think) song from galaxy 2, which is yoshi star galaxy, 2, it plays sky station, which is the first level in galaxy 2, and lastly bowsers galaxy generator, the "last" level in galaxy 2. In the perfect run, all the songs are from galaxy 1, but follow the same format. Most well known song, gusty gardens, first level, good egg, (yes I know TECHNICALLY the first level is gateway galaxy but you don't get access to that again until later, whereas good egg is the first accessable at any time level, like sky station. Its like saying the star festival in galaxy 2 is the first level because you have the spin ability there already, or smthn like that.) and then the "last" galaxy 1 level, bowsers galaxy reactor. I thought that was pretty neat notsosecret secret once I noticed.
