That’s one of the reasons why I love galaxy 1 more than 2, even though galaxy 2 was an extremely fun game( and one of the best Mario games I’ve ever played) galaxy 1 had a tone that I’ve never seen in a Mario game before at that point( except for maybe paper Mario thousand year door)
@@nobodycares6761 It's dark in the sense that Bowser opened fire on a populated area and is dropping buildings on people after presumably leaving Rosalina and her Lumas to die in space. It's not dark in comparison to a ton of other things, but for Mario it's pretty dark to have Bowser very much take no prisoners.
@@Pwjdjskw I wouldn't go that far. There are still certain objects that are blatantly polygonal if you look closely. Also, have you even SEEN the likes of the Mario + Rabbids series, Super Mario Odyssey, or Luigi's Mansion 3? Those blow this out of the water in terms of visuals.
I was a bit frightened by that as a kid. I shrieked out of trauma as the castle disappeared and as the Luma escaped to help Mario. Nowadays, I've gotten over that trauma, but still, you never know what could frighten you.
For me, no one could read english at the time in my family, and it was mine first mario game ever (didint even knew mario at the time, i only played flash games at the time) so for 5 year old me it went something like this; giant dragon thing appears on some ships with and ufo, then it takes the castle with some princess and mushroom thingis, then IN SPACE some yellow guy throws me into space into a planet where is rosalina, which looked like dead peach for me lol
Bowser literally went from trapping everyone in a castle to destroying a festival, freezing toads, blasting metoerites, lifting a castle up into space and taking over the galaxy. Just from this opening I knew Mario Galaxy would be something special and it was. One of the greatest video games of all time
Back in elementary school(2006), I remember hearing the Star Festival song for the first time on my Wii; and this brings up very nostalgic feelings. The prologue of Super Mario Galaxy during the Star Festival was probably the Mushoom Kingdom at its peak and at its most peaceful and prosperous, until bowser came along and had to ruin things like you mentioned.
+iCupcakeMelanie So did I. Also, this is the second time Mario gets blasted like that. The first was in Paper Mario (64). Wait...then there's Super Mario RPG (1st)...so...3 times... Yeah~.
you know, the toads are really useless, I mean seriously they're in a war against a koopa with a fleet of airships, 8 fortresses, millions of koopas and Goombas and still mario is the one doing everything.
Yeah! Honestly if you look at the beginning part of the trailer there was a sequence that contained a pretty epic and dark tone that even I didn’t expect! I think that part is similar to what’s being portrayed here 😯
As a kid, I always use to think that the Koopalings were on the other Airships aiding Bowser, it’s a shame that we don’t get to see them. Also, Kamek is absolutely terrifying in this game.
That's because, in this lore of Mario canon, this was technically the finale. Bowser behind the scenes befriended Topmaniacs, captured multiple galaxies, and become a literal Thanos of the universe. Bowser most likely has gotten these powers from capturing and absorbing the energy of power stars as well as star themselves.
Lets just break this down, Bowser's kingdom attacked the civilians of another kingdom while at peacetime, and then proceeded to kidnap the ruling monarch of said kingdom. Thats terrorism right there
Back in elementary school(2007), I remember hearing the Star Festival song for the first time on my Wii; and this brings up very nostalgic feelings. The prologue of Super Mario Galaxy during the Star Festival was probably the Mushoom Kingdom at its peak and at its most peaceful and prosperous, until bowser came along and had to ruin things like you mentioned.
Hohhohoh! I remember this day. Pure fear in the Mushroom Kingdom. Toads were running around, desperate for themselves and their families. Princess Peach was scared. *Oh* *no!* *It's* _him_ *again.* But why? Why the happy Mushroom Kingdom was in fear? *Well...* In the sky, a group of airships were flying all of over the place. *Ah!* screamed the toads. King Bowser, ruler, _king,_ of the koopas, was invading the Mushroom Kingdom again. Causing chaos, he kidnaped Princess Peach again. *But wait!* Mario, our hero, was there to save the Mushroom Kingdom. Is he gonna be able to save Princess Peach? You shall know the rest of this epic tale in *Super Mario Galaxy.* ... These were good times, you know. I remember it vividly. The chaos. The fear. I, King Bowser, kidnapping Princess Peach again, and again. And Mario coming to save her. The good times I had with my children, the Koopalings, planning ways to kill Mario. I miss these days.
in these games bowser actually felt like a threat unlike in Mario Odessey with I like about the galaxy games he feels actually evil I wish Nintendo kept him more like the galaxy version
They amde more of an anti-hero in some games too. Super Mario Party shows that he joined like everyone else does. And Bowser's Inside Story & Jr's Journey shows more depth.
I remember feeling so scared during the intro when I was little. Now, it fills me with excitement, knowing it was the start of one of my first favorite virtual adventures!
You're not the only one with that opinion, dude. Pre-rendered CGI cutscenes telling an original story, vs storybook framing telling a bastardized rehash of that original story.
(3:10) That moment startled me when I saw it the first time, a long time ago. The intense music followed by a black screen after closing in on Peach’s eye seemed to foreshadow doom.
Anyone going to ask how Princess Peach understands what Bowser is saying? It's like when one person speaks English while the other person speaks Japanese, but they somehow understand each other.
He is speaking English. Nintendo just refused to do full voice acting after the terrible performance in Sunshine. So they just turn their English speaking into jumbled gibberish.
@@mauriciogarcianarvez2366 Being trapped in a crystal likely froze the entire Toad's organ system as if time stopped. Besides, Mario has freed the Toad Brigade from crystals, and they turned out fine in the end. So those Toads will be ok.
They REALLY PUSHED the E rating in this one intro And I just love it when the Mario Games has dark tonings on most of the scenes and I really hope they could use that dark tone on the Mario Movie sequel
Nunca olvidare cuando en una de las varias veces que repetí esta cinemática mi mamá entro al cuarto y dijo “canijo bowser se la llevo con todo y castillo”
1:43 Man years Ago Back in Jacksonville North Carolina I had sleep over at a friend's house and l play Mario Galaxy and I said It's King Koopa if y'all Remember super mario bros super show
Both were also on the Wii And both have an emotional ending where the cute sidekick sacrifice themselves to rescue the main character. Also both use an orchestra for the main theme of the game.
Omg this us actually so insane what are games nowadays doing just look at this, i remember i had this game and my brother completed the game like every other game he had but i didn’t had the chance too cause the game broke and he crashed every time while this intro beginned. I still got the game too but it always keeps on crashing. Then i had the mario galaxy 2 but I sadly lost it :(
True but Galaxy 2 has much much better gameplay and mechanics and each galaxy has so much to do compared to some of Galaxy 1’s galaxies whose missions are kind of short
@@joeyjerry1586 It's a matter of personal preference. People who prefer that a game be atmospheric with depth of story will prefer Galaxy 1. People who prefer that the quality of the game itself goes first over everything else will prefer Galaxy 2. I USED to prefer Galaxy 2, but coming to appreciate narrative more and more pushed me towards the first game. Galaxy 2 will always be the better game, but Galaxy 1 will always be the better experience.
This is the mario game that made me cry not too long ago, because it is way too nostalgic. I know im a fucki* baby but this is my childhood right there ;-'(
This story intro is one of the greatest in any Super Mario game, and even the soundtrack with Kamek blasting Mario into far outer space. I can't overlook the fact that Princess Peach just stands there doing absolutely nothing when her castle is going to get taken up out of the Mushroom Kingdom into space. While it's obvious she'd likely fail it's better to do something than doing nothing because you're literally the ruler of your own kingdom.🏰💫🤦🏻♂️
I love how much of a pop off it is to me that the music that plays when the castle is taken has a timpani of all things. I want to know the name of that song. ALSO, WHY IS BOWSER A THUNDER GOD
When I looked on the wiki about Toadette, I thought she would be well hidden but it was obvious where they were, I was like, "Wait, really??? LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!" 0:11
This was the first game I had ever owned. I had only seen Mario games at my friends place because for the longest time I wasn't even allowed to play video games. So when I saw this at like 8 years old with my only exposure being m64 and Mario party I thought this was the coolest thing ever. I mean it still is the coolest thing ever but man did it blow me away the first time.
Nobody was expecting Bowser to go this hard back in 2006, when we were still getting used to the idea of playing with a Wiimote and a Nunchuk instead of a D-pad/analog joystick controller. He'd done evil schemes in the past before, but he was stunningly merciless and savage here. He actually lived up to his big talk about being the baddest guy around. He never quite went this far again and reverted back to his "Saturday Morning Cartoon villain" trope, but _Mario Galaxy_ will always hold a special place in our hearts for how impactful it's story was.
The intro is so intense. I love it. But, PEACH IS SUCH A PUSHOVER, STAND UP FOR YOUR KINGDOM. This is why Rosalina is my favorite, she is an independent space queen! That’s don’t need no man! She HELPS Mario. A true boss.
I was watching Ed Edd n' Eddy's alien-themed special, The Eds Are Coming, and the opening mirrors this scene perfectly. In a nightmare sequence, giant robotic saws cut out the cul-de-sac before giant robot claws lift the entire neighborhood out of the ground and carry it off into space. Sarah is abducted along with it while Jimmy falls into an abyss in a similar manner to Peach and Mario. Interestingly, both the special and this game came out in 2007. I'm surprised that I was the only one who seemed to notice the similarities.
