The option for the DX rom hack to have the ORIGINAL Mario sprite totally changes my opinion of it. The larger more detailed sprite totally ruined the character of the game given the seeming intention of the rom was to represent what the game would have looked like on Game Boy Color, and Nintendo never "updated" the graphics when they released their GBC rereleases of GB games. Its just great to have the option, shows they really were thinking on this for a while.
The idea of a remake of a gameboy game remaked on the SNES made with New Super Mario Bros Sprites still remains bizarre to me but gotta give credits when credit is due
Fun fact: The SNES Version is even more impressive if you factor in that it can be played with 4 (!) players simultaneously. Make sure to get V1.5 for best performance
This SNES game is incredible! When I saw this the first time running in a SNES, I thought: "Super FX?" But then I remembered DKC and it's pre-rendered graphics, and then my mind was blown away. More games should have this type of graphics in the SNES and in the Mega Drive. It's beautiful.
The problem with new mode on game boy color is only the characters are altered. They look out of place in the environments, with only Daisy being a notable improvement that still matches. Old mode with color seems to add polish, completing the original aesthetic. The DS variant has less disparity by comparison, so it holds up better as a whole.
Definitely the last one. It does make you wish that Nintendo do give the old Mario games the "Super Mario All Stars" treatment remaking the games for newer systems.
Technically then reason why Nintendo does that in the first place was that the Super NES was not backwards compatible with NES games so those who bought the Super NES back then thinking it will be able to play the just released Super Mario Bros. 3 were disappointed that some wrote complaints to Nintendo threatening to throw away their Super NES in the process. Nintendo in a scramble at first was planning to make an adapter for Super NES that could play NES games but the head of development says making such an adapter would be pointless since the NES is on its way out. Instead Nintendo choose to just remake all four of the 8-Bit Super Mario Bros. games for Super NES as those are the only thing the complaints were about so that's how they released Super Mario All-Stars for Super NES.
I want to go back and try these now after learning about them. I don't like when people throw the world nostalgia around for everything, but man if the music from world 2-1 doesn't give me some sort of feels about being a kid again.
Whoa... I don't remember Super Mario Land DX and it's unlikely that I didn't own it so I must have just somehow forgotten about it?? It looks absolutely gorgeous! It's a shame because I recently sold a few of my GameBoy Color games including A Link to the Past DX and now seeing this is giving me seller's remorse!
You can tell the original Gameboy version was steering on the side of having as much screen size as possible, at the expense of graphical fidelity. It's less detailed than the NES original, actually looks more like a game you'd find on an old graphing calculator.
I had Link's Awakening on my graphing calculator, and the sprites were the same size as the Game Boy version, so maybe I'm used to newer graphics but I haven't seen a graphing calculator game look that bad.
The GBC with original sprites seems the best to me, I’m definitely going to look it up. I’m playing a color hack of SML2 and it’s amazing. It also runs much smoother than the original version. I wish Nintendo would make the effort of colouring in GB games for NSO.
While the last one is clearly a labor of love I imagine it would be awkward to handle the stiff Super Mario Land controls with those new graphics. Also I'm pretty disappointed that they didn't remake the Can Can for the star music if they were going to go to such lengths....
@@lucassantossj: Pretty much, it was the best we had back than and most of us were just excited for the novelty of gaming on the go. I've still got my old Gameboy, or rather my old Gameboy Pocket. Turned it on again recently out of nostalgia and... oh, my... maybe it's just my old man eyes don't work so good anymore, but I couldn't understand how I ever managed to play the damn thing... LOL!
Honestly I'd MUCH rather play the GBC retexture than the SNES remake. It looks and sounds incredibly unpolished and doesn't seem like it'd feel very good to play.
I loved this Gameboy game, along with Mario 2. I know they're kind of redheaded stepchildren of the series but they're still so iconic. Yes I also love Temple of Doom.
@@IkinBBfromAnthologyOfTheKiller Yeah, the Genesis just wasn't as powerful. F-Zero and Uniracers are faster than any Sonic game I've played on the Genesis.
@@linkthehero8431 Hm. Well, blast processing doesn't sound as appealing now. But, as a Sonic fan, i gotta ask, have you used the momentum stuff to get faster? Because i've gotten pretty fast once i learned to use that.
Is it just me or does homebrew borrow sfx from SM64? ie. coins, goomba kill, giant eyeball kill, fire-spitting floaty ball things from that game? Haha it's dope
Gotta love how all the most replayed parts of this video are the transition points to the next version. Kinda shows how needlessly padded out this video is
The GB original brings back all the nostalgia, while the GBC with original sprites shows that even just a little color can go a long way. The GBC with updated sprites, however... it just doesn't look right. Mario in particular ends up looking a bit too much like Warrio with that oversized head.
This is interesting... I didn't know that the DX hack has an option of retaining the original graphics, and I didn't even know that a homebrew SNES version exist as well. I kind of like the updated sprites of Mario and Daisy in the DX hack, but I think that changing all the enemies was unnecessary. Most of them do not even look better than originals. SNES version looks very good, though, and I bet it would look even better on a CRT television.
Id love a remake and/or remaster of Mario Land 1, hel it being avaliable for NSO would nice(which it isn't for some reason). I want to see all more villains return from Mario 2 and Land
Ahh yes the only Mario game without stage shortcuts, Princess Peach, Toad and Bowser as the boss. At 1st I thought this was a fan made game since they didn't use the actual star power up OST
SUper Mario Land, a homebrew game? Looks really cool. But I can see how buggy it appears to be from this video gameplay of it. I looked it up and there's no way one can "find a copy" online to download for themselves. Still, I'd have liked to give it a play myself...
I'd prefer the SNES homebrew to have hand drawn sprites rather than the DS/3D captures but otherwise that's bloody awesome, especially considering the multiplayer aspect.
Buen día, creo que un buen hack en éste caso para nes, sería el super mario bros pero con cosas de super mario land. Muy buenos hacks los de éste video para gameboy.
That super mario land ds game version was so COOL. It's way cooler than the piece of junk gameboy version feels nostalgia. But this right here, is remarkably remake style version.
I appreciate what I'm seeing, but I feel like it would have been nice not to see the same levels repeated. There's four different styles to show, you could have used footage of each style in each world. First style in world 1, second style and World 2, third style World 3, fourth style on world 4. Maybe show some screenshots of what the rest of the game looks like with each style in between
Where did all other versions come from? And why does the snes one look like NDS? De dónde salieron las demás versiones y por qué la de snes parece de NDS?
