On one hand, Toad without the Toad voice must be easier on the vocal cords. On the other hand, it's super jarring to not hear Toad speak in a manner that befits a semi-literate gremlin

So fun fact abour Culex, He's not a boss from ANY Final Fantasy game. He was specifically designed for this game in the style of a FF boss. It's almost more of a spoof of FF, especially with the crystals. Additionally, people have found out quite recently that Numora might have been the person to actually design Culex!

I love that they've made the secret boss of this game the post-game final boss, and at that a boss that just THROWS EVERYTHING AT YOU. It's such a cool reward for doing everything the game has to offer.

The cutscene in peach's bedroom actually sent me, was not expecting that from a mario game

To combat the Bowser hate: Lucahjin had Bowser stay in her party the entire way through and he basically soloed Culex through having the Lazy Shell and Ribbon on. I wonder if “The Monster’s FP is gone!” message still appears.

1:22:44 The irony is that the advent of 3D Mario games sort of makes this *more* intuitive than it would have been in the original game (which predates Mario 64 by a few months). That's basically what happens when you hit lava in any 3D Mario game. Also, when RT was standing underneath the coin while asking how he was supposed to get to it, my TOTK-riddled brain immediately answered, "Use Ascend."

The postgame Culex fight feels like the perfect sendoff for this game

I was the one who submitted the "MEGALOVANIA" tadpole measure at 1:33:57 live during the night of the stream. The irony with the "Beethoven" bit coming before the actual measure is that said measure _did_ only take me about a minute to think up; I just mainly went by ear and mentally mapped those notes to something that'd be possible to create in-game. Sure, it wasn't 100% faithful but I feel I did my best.

Shoutouts to all the Toads in Rose Town having bullseye/arrow-target patterns on their caps genuinely one of my favorite little touches and it seems like a lot of people I know never noticed it before :U

It's almost better that he never played the original, there are so many unexpected moments in this game that really make it special.

Been waiting for this. I didn't grow up with the older RPG games, but Partners in Time and Bowser's Inside Story were-and-are my jam.

I find it hilarious that Peach of all characters basically becomes a Juggernaut kill streak without the minigun.

Fun fact!! The track used for the secret Final Fantasy-like boss is straight up the boas fight track from Final Fantasy IV! It also sounds to me that the rearranged version used for his post-game rematch is almost identical to the one used in FF4's DS remake that was also 3D, like the new version of the secret boss. Also, Dan said he's a fan of older Final Fantasy games (mentioned 1-6), I wonder if he has played FF9? It's my favorite FF game (and favorite game overall), and it's a lot more like the pixel games than FF7-8 and has a lot of references especially to early FF games. I greatly recommend it to people who enjoy early FF titles. There is a reason a lot of people say it's best title in the franchise, even though it's not nearly as popular as FF7.

Wow, they really kept the game pretty faithful to the quirky tone while adding stuff that fit... and tried to trim out a lot of the wonky bits, though some still remained (the isometric perspective platforming thing, for one, good lord). Was really funny to see RT react to this game's tone.

The og super mario rpg is probably my favorite game of all time and it was an absolute joy being able to watch you experience it for the first time... special shout out to the early culex attempt which was hilarious to witness

The first time I saw Geno, I thought he was a possessed animatronic or someone stuffed in an animatronic suit.

As someone who played the original back in the day, I have to say I am really impressed how the game looks. It's pretty much the exact same game, just with some added features (hitting all enemies, the team attack, etc.). I am glad they didn't re-invent anything or change the core of it. Also I will ride with my Mario, Bowser, Peach party. Sorry Geno (and the cloud dude i guess.....)

Super Mario RPG was one of the two RPG games I hadn't finished before the remake released, and now that I played the remake, WOW I missed out. I wouldn't call it my all time favorite, but I enjoyed it every step of the way, not having any real problems with the game, which I can't say for even my top 3 Mario RPGs. I love this type of Mario spinoff, and I have to give major props to the one that started the whole thing.
