@@WLTPimagine 4 players on a moving platform with a pit at the bottom & enemy’s attacking from every direction in the air. Then all 4 players are elephants
I play all Mario games coop with my two daughters and not having collisions is a god send. Some hard sections are impossible with collisions on. I am grateful they switched them off.
The thing is in multiplayer everyone shares lives, so having no collision is probably to prevent trolling your teammates (intentional or not) when it could affect everyone in the group.
We need the collisions. It is a sin to play multiplayer games casually without purposely committing friendly fire. Halo you kill your friend after every engagement if you don't have the reset skull on, Mario you throw your friend in the abyss when you can every 3 levels, and in Borderlands you pull out and leave your friend to fall down steal their kills and res them before they die. Need to be carful about over extension with the toxic practices but within reason they better the experience.
I played Wonder with a friend. I was Mario, he was Yoshi, and I hated the fact that he was always standing in the way gluing me to his saddle. I asked him to please select another character, anyone but the Yoshis, because the collision is a huge problem for me, since it adds just another outrageous invincible enemy. So yeah, the collision reminded me of the chaos of NSMB Wii and NSMB U and I immediately had to return to single player for my first playthrough. Collision is great for casual life wasting, but I like Wonder's approach much more. In fact, it got rid of the huge problem.
The crown is also a problem because every player moves at their own pace and if you play the multiplayer it changes between players every 5 seconds and makes the game go from fast to slow to normal to speed run mode
It does kinda suck that collision isn't back for those rare "teamwork" moments. But, with stuff like the Bubble Flower bouncing, you're not missing too much with not having head jumping or throwing if just one person has the flower. Still, the troll in me wanted player interaction in this game because it creates so much funny/rage moments (as I'm sure you guys can attest to). The no pausing on deaths & power-ups and the ghost mechanic are pretty nice changes though :)
i absolutely HATE playing multiplayer because the camera does not move based on everyone, it's just based on one single person so if they want to do something else than everything else they can ruin it for everyone. in the earlier games it would adapt based on everyone's positions
As a father of two little ones, the lack of collision makes it SO much easier. Agreed about how fun, funny, and frustrating collision was in the previous games though.
I think it's supposed to be more of a team work game instead of whoever gets the most coins wins game...also we collect wonder seeds in this one and they're probably hidden around the level....if you ask me it's a improvement
I understand why they have no more collision physics. But at least we have not only the memories of the bonkers moments (as demonstrated by you guys countless times), but you guys grabbed many Star Coins and more by cooperatively jumping on each other's heads. 😉 And those were fun to see too, and even learn to try in our saves with our friends.
I think the reason they made it like this is because mario games are getting more kid like as in there are literal singing pirhana plants and you can be a elephant. The name is Mario WONDER for a reason.
the collision is gone, the chaos too... however, if a player has a crown, and just does whatever is in their mind, instead of actually trying to beat the level, it can quickly become chaotic... believe me, i tried playing a game with friends, and whenever they had the crown, it would become a chaos, everyone would start screaming, and the player with the crown would "accidentally" kill the other ones because they have control of the camera what i mean is that this game can still make people rage (at least me) when playing with friends
Da fact dat I forgot about collision in these games just unlocked a whole other old memory of mines. I miss these games and want to get a wii just to relive da experience
I thought for sure that the biggest problem was the elephant fruit. I mean, it wouldn't be a problem if the Toads and Toadette are the only playable characters who can use it.
It’s not a problem. We just have to be creative in our trolling. Like throwing turtle shells or jumping off the cliff as Yoshi with someone on your back.
Truth is I love that they didn’t include collision cause when your gf isn’t exactly the most fluid player it’s hard to share the camera or not enough space to jump so you gotta knock the other, like in super Mario deluxe or 3d world. I remember champions world not being possible at all unless we did it individually.
This is the best change honestly, now people can actually focus in que game instead of messing around The player collision used to be a huge problem if you actually wanted to play serious with 4 players. Not to mention, the level design in NSMB Wii and U had to be larger with more empty spaces to accommodate 4 players with their own hitboxes, making single player way less enjoyable as a result
I hope collision cause thats where all the fun happens with these games and anytime i saw your vids of you guys trolling each other always gave me the greatest laughs especially with Spencer’s classic line “ I didn’t mean too”😂😂
Spoilers: They did not give the ability to enable collision of other players. Nintendo is trying to make a new refreshing game that will create a new era for 2d mario, not continue it. Stealing power ups from your siblings, picking up other players and throwing them, or bouncing off their heads is fun and nostalgic but nsmb era for 2d mario is just stale honestly. And plus mario wonder is supposed to be hard like smb3, so trolling your friends and siblings while trying to beat a hard level is too toxic and I know thats the fun of it though and I miss this stuff too.
This is a change for the BETTER. When I play other Mario games with my friend, we keep messing each other up and getting in each other's way accidentally. This is the solution.
Hate me all you want about this but I'm kind of glad they added no collision. Yes I understand that I won't get any more chaotic highlights with my family when playing this but what they already have implemented, I think brings its own sense of chaos to it. I watched a lot of playthroughs and I've noticed that if you do play multiplayer, the camera only locks onto the person wearing the crown icon or whatever forcing perspective and a sense of patience with people and obviously knowing that a lot of people don't run on patients that can bring its own sense of dread and I'll say it again, chaos. I also believe it might have to do with the whole momentum thing and I think Nintendo wants to make the game run smooth. You know, but that's just my hot take
You can still do star coin strats by reviving ghost players since they jump up when you do it. I see this as a net positive because its so much more fun to play local now
I can't believe no youtuber seems to mention this, but the reason they turned off collision, speaking as a software engineer here, is very OBVIOUS: they are choosing for an entirely different netcode here where they basically show an almost-instant replay of other players, which keeps your game running perfectly even over online connections, BECAUSE there are no collisions. If they wanted to add collisions, then suddenly the online networking capacities become much more important. You would either end up with Super Mario Maker 2-like gameplay (terrible performance), OR Mario Kart 8-like gameplay (phantom hits everywhere). Nintendo, prioritizing quality here, sacrificed collisions to ensure smooth online gameplay.
I think Nintendo should add a button in the options that lets you turn the collisions between players on or off, that way, everyone wins and there is more trolling for those who want to troll 😎
