Another fantastic TAS from GaRan, well done sir ! 🤩 I've followed you recently, and saw several of your runs. All very entertaining. I discover some ROM Hacks too and I'll definitely try several pretty soon! 🙏 I imagine you've heard of the Super Junkoid ROM Hack ? This one need a 100% TAS, probably one of the most fascinating ROM Hack of Super Metroid I've ever seen. It will need works to achieve it, but I think IMHO it's worth the work.
You did it GaRan, you actually did it, thank you so much! I've been smiling ear to ear watching this masterpiece so far. It's good to finally see a TAS of this challenge out there in the wild now! Edit: Finished watching it, Tourian was as crazy as I expected it to be, those damage boosts during the escape were amazing. Looking forward to your next TAS release! Question I have for Drew is how much of this is intended playthrough or did GaRan manage to break the challenge? There's not much reference material out there to work out what is expected in a challenge playthrough.
Thank for your support :) I have a major sequence breaking in this run, it is Grapple skipped, which is a must in normal playthrough! Therefore, I didn’t have to go to Lower Norfair for Grapple beam, skipped the fight with Ridley, GT, Phantoon, skipped long dive in Maridia :)
Epbc was heavily scripted with barricades appearing to block player access at certain times. Garan mentioned the big sequence break, which is only able to be done in tas. The other break he did not mention was when heading for speed booster he bypassed a blockade by swimming in lava and freezing an enemy. My intended route is for the player to return to brinstar and break the glass tube near spore spawn to return to norfair.
Tourian is literally half of the video. I don't think I've ever seen a Super Metroid TAS like it. ^^' The skips were amazing, too bad they resulted in Tourian being even more tedious than normal xD Still a fun watch. The amount of work it takes to complete the puzzle is pretty amazing. (That's how you know a lot of work was done to MAKE it in the first place.)
It was a bug leftover when I was writing my momentum code. I liked the idea of being able to turn around quickly, so I decided to leave it in. seems like there are really amazing uses for it after all! My favorite is Zig-Zagging through shafts and not having to slow down all the time!
I think there’ll be not, EPB is the fastest any% because it ain’t required to active all the guardian, fight bosses, and no need to kill Metroids in some Tourian’s rooms :)
Since how damage Ridley takes in the intro affects his health in his bossfight, is there any reason you didn't shoot at him more during your invicibility frames?
It is an optional challenge to get the specific early powerbomb shown in the run. it triggers a whole diff path to complete the game, and he managed to skip half the game using TAS and underwater spark jumps. either way, very cool.
In regular any%, you have to active all 12 Chozo statue, and have to kill Ridley, which is slower I think 😀 The pause at 39:59 is Super Missile cool down time (45 frames)
