Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz HD REVIEW (Nintendo Switch) 

I'm stuck in a weird place of "I don't want to buy Banana Blitz again but I also want to buy it and show Sega that we want more Monkey Ball."

Why they didn't just port 1 and 2 in a bundle is beyond me.

I hope Sega actually takes that poll that they did into account and they remake Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 for Switch EDIT: WOOOOOOOOO! IT HAPPENED!!!

This was the kindest dislike review for a game I have ever seen.

As the main announcer for Monkey Ball I and II, yes, SEGA messed up with casting, production and turned gold into bronze. I would love to voice Monkey Ball again.

You know what? This review got me interested in the original Monkey Ball, so hey, it's something, right?

This has got to be one of Gamexplain's best negative reviews I've ever seen. It takes a good analytical look at why the game didn't work back then and why the remake failed to improve it and it hits a perfect balance of positive and negative points to the point I was shocked at Jon's review score just because he sounded a lot more positive than the score he gave for it, but at the same time, the review was so well spoken, the score makes perfect sense. Well done, Jon.

They made a huge mistake remastering Banana Blitz instead of Deluxe.

I'd honestly prefer a remaster of Super Monkey Ball Deluxe for current systems. I don't have the money to throw at Banana Blitz especially when it's a lackluster experience.

I feel bad for actually having fun with this game now... ah screw it I will Continue to enjoy haha!

I’m torn. I want to get the game to show Sega there’s interest in games outside of Sonic and Yakuza - but I also don’t want a game that I won’t enjoy.

I'm playing it and having fun with it... id recommend it

I'm salty af they completely butchered the music, the original Banana Blitz had an absolutely bangin' soundtrack. Also the removal of motion controls kind of kills the point. I'll just stick with the original, thanks.

Tbh i feel like they should have remastered Banana Splitz from the vita rather than this game. It felt a lot closer to the original 2 than any of the other modern games and it would have been basically new content to a lot of people anyway since not many people had a vita, let alone Banana Splitz.

I crave super monkey ball gameplay so much I might just pick it up out of necessity god why can't they just port 1 and 2

SEGA should consider that Sonic Generations still hasn't been ported to a Nintendo console... that'd sell way better

It’s not often GameXPlain dislikes a game.... but here we are.

I felt like this review was unfairly reviewed here. The game is well made and had decent care put into it. But the review seems to just focus on the fact that it's not the same as SMB1 or SMB2. It's very unfair in my opinion as it's still a good game on it's own.

Not surprised at this verdict. This game contradicts what Monkey Ball is all about on pretty much every level. They really should have remastered Deluxe instead.

I loved monkey ball, i started playing it when gamecube came about. Good memories.

I'm surprised they didn't take this opportunity to remaster/port Banana Splitz, instead. So few people have a Vita, and even fewer of those are Monkey Ball fans, so that game went under the radar way too much, especially considering it was perhaps my favorite Monkey Ball game outside of Deluxe. It has the same kind of art style as Banana Blitz, but the levels are tricky even without motion controls. It was a really great game. So if this port was about visibility where there was none, I feel like that Vita game would have been the better one to port over. I'm still grateful for this game, though. I hope it does well and Sega ponders either porting over Banana Splitz or Deluxe over, or even better, makes an entirely new game in the franchise (hopefully with the philosophy of Deluxe as opposed to Banana Blitz).

I really liked the music in Pirate Ocean for the Wii version. The new version just sounds too calm for me.

Monkey Ball 1 and 2 were my absolute favourites

I'm actually surprised they didn't use the gyro for this tbh I think it'd be a perfect fit using the remote to tilt the stage and such

I came here expecting a negative review because of the high difficulty in main game, and low content for party games and bad controls. Got most of my expectations right but surprised me that this review says world 5,6 has "extremely" low difficulty. Damn, now I feel terrible for using a continue in world 6 stage 5

I play this at my loacal cheeky cheese it closed i just found it at a nother arcade me and my sister were on the verge of crying we loved this game i look it up when i got home and started screeching in happyness

Oh how I wish this remaster was 1 & 2...maybe one day, Sega

1 & 2 were amazing parts of my childhood. The levels were so enjoyable. This just looks... like a diet version.

I see so many people say they should have remastered 1 & 2 instead. Do people not know about Super Monkey Ball Deluxe or is there something wrong with the game I’m not ware of? Deluxe seems like it would have been the best choice to me.

This game took all the fun out of monkey target.... we need HD remakes of the first two.

I wish it was Nights HD collection as I would buy that instantly!

The only game I can see this making sense with is Banana Splitz, which didn't even get a chance to do well considering the massive underperformance of the PS Vita (and I think stick controls could improve that game massively, seeing how it has more traditional-style levels)... but, seeing how that was by an external studio, that's probably why Splitz probably won't be seen outside of the Vita I was pretty unimpressed with this game... not the worst thing ever and it's okay to play, but definetley far from a Super Monkey Ball game that can truly stand toe-to-toe with the originals

Okay can you play a challenge mode like in SMBDeluxe.? I haven’t played this title since that game and I spent countless hours playing the challenge mode.

It’s on a 30 GBP game it’s half the price of some the highest quality switch games like Super Smash Bros it’s good that it’s easier to control because twisting and waving a Wii remote was fucking crazy in the original

I would have loved seeing the original games in the new art style. The new style was the only improvement over the original two that have happened since.

Such a shame that there's no motion on the switch edition; a console which actually has a motion feature. They just need to release the GCN super monkey Ball onto the switch, such good memories of getting angry as a kid when my monkey constantly fell off the stage. The guitar one, grrr..

the only monkey ball game I played was the DS game. At I don't know what age but, at around 5,6, or 7

i was thinking of buying this. just because banana blitz has that Jungle 1 theme that gets re-used in every iteration of sonic racing. heck it was the default theme on the sonic and sega all stars racing's "Treetops" level (which i love btw. best race track in the game!). but seeing the negative reviews, makes me want to rethink actually using my money on something like pokemon sword instead.

*Sigh* might as well keep on waiting for a proper return of Aiai and friends

I agree, I am a huge, huge monkey ball fan. Why the hell didn't they give the original 2 games the HD treatment??? So weird.

Man, hearing that Monkey Target isn't good in this version just breaks my heart... I'd pay $60 for just a competent Monkey Target game.

This game doesn't feel the same , it feels like it's directed towards kids back than I played super monkey ball on gc when I was younger and I still like it.
