$50,000 in year 1987 Converts to $115,908 in year 2020

Since this has German caption, USD 50,000 equals (50000*USD1.6695/DEM1.0) = DM83.475,00 as of 07.12.1987. Or about €42.679,93 at fixed rate.

Two contestants won $55,000. One in April 1986 by a woman named Marjorie, and another in January 1988 by a man named Patrick Quinn. But that one turned out to be illegal, due to the winner in '88 being a fugitive whose real name was Kerry Ketchum.

Vahan Nisanian That explains why the casting director for the 2019 revival of Press Your Luck asked me if I had any legal troubles brewing... Kerry, I hope you genuinely had a merry frick’n winter. 🥶

LOVED ALL VERSIONS OF PASSWORD WITH ALLEN LUDDEN TOM KENNEDY & BERT CONVY!! THE ONLY THING IS THAT LIKE SOME OTHER GAME SHOWS--NEVER GAVE AWAY A NEW CAR 🚙!! AGAIN A GAME SHOW WITHOUT A CAR IS LIKE NOT HAVING PEPSI OR COKE IN THE HOUSE!!

@JasonA.Routhier-vw1wd In some ways, it's better when they just give cash because of taxes. Game shows are treated like lottery winnings in the US and in California it's gonna be about 1/3. So think about it, win a $25,000 car. You're gonna have 90 days to come up with $8,000 or you lose it. There's been a lot of cases of folks who've run themselves into financial trouble after winning big prizes on a game show. At least with cash the IRS can just dock it directly from your cheque.

OK, I’m confused. He definitely said “date“ that first time around, and the bell even rang after he said it, so why did they make him go back to it at the end?

He said “date” either right on or right after she said “pass”..

The reason why the D remained illuminated was the fact Edie said pass and Robert said date just after that, and was dinged correct for the D word, but for whatever reason, they elected not to award him that because she passed, either way that was a potential booboo on their part had he not won because as far as I know, there are no rules in any of the iterations of password where you can't say the word after it's passed. In either case, Robert was able to get Date the second time with about 1 and a half seconds left on the clock. I think what would have happened had he not gotten the $50k it probably would have been redone, just for the fact that they did ring the bell on "date" but didn't turn the letter over in doing so, a case of this also happened to a woman with Richard Simmons where in that instance the female contestant did not give the correct word, but the judges dinged the word correct, and did not turn the letter over. The "effect" caused the mishap and they redid the endgame again and won the second time around. In technical circumstances they will usually give the player a redo in those cases

He actually said date before she said pass, plus it dinged, indicating that he got it. Had he not gone back at the end, they almost certainly would’ve reviewed it and given it to him

They would have given it to him as he did indeed say the word before she said 'pass', in real time the judge missed it that's all.

Didn't like the split-screen effect, in the later years of the show.

wut? There was NO pass on "d" - the bell rang regardless of what he said.

Wait, how/why was that $300 puzzle not thrown out? Jamie Farr give the solution, “orange,“ as a clue for the word “crush“?
@duckydan52
@duckydan52 Год назад
Jamie had used it as a clue for the Password, which has happened many times with both the Super Password and Password Plus incarnations. Now had it been said outside of the clues (like Bert Convy had done a few times), then they would had thrown the puzzle out. There are a couple of Bert's bloopers here on you tube.

@@duckydan52 I'm not sure they throw it out if a contestant does it even outside of the clue giving. I think it is only when the host does it.

I can't remember which celebrity it was but there was one case, he answered the password, then said "Oh, I was thinking of the puzzle!" Blantantly giving it away, unfortunately their opponents took advantage and it cost his contestant the match. If it was revealed by means beyond the contestant's/celebrity's control, they'd throw it out. But if you give it away that's your own fault. I also remember one case from password plus, the contestant solved a $100 puzzle, he admitted during the commercial break someone in the audience blurted it out. So they decided to throw that puzzle out and play a new $100 puzzle, They let the contestant keep the $100, but it didn't count towards the score.

@@duckydan52 Allen Ludden, Bill Cullen, and Tom Kennedy have all done the same thing just as much on Password Plus, if not more. But what should have been done in all versions was just edit the whole puzzle out if it was removed, since it didn't affect the game score-wise. It only prolonged the game, and once in a while, caused a whole episode to run without a bonus round.

How much sleep did the judges get that they were napping when he clearly said Date the first time? he clearly started saying it before she started saying Pass.

The $50K attempt on the endgame before Marjorie's was lost because Janis Piage had said "Pass" just before the contestant said "Frog", and after they'd gotten all nine of the other words, and lost because of this hard and fast rule in the endgame on a show that was otherwise judged on the lax side in many cases.

It had to be for $45,000 as the prize increases by $5,000 after each failure.
