Beautiful store! And everything is super organized. Looks amazing! I just got a PC Engine finally. Also got a complete copy of Kato-chan & Ken-chan as the first game for 18 bucks. Didn't expect the loose copy to be double the price of that.

Very nice! The PC engine has an amazing library. And nice pickup with the Kato and Ken Chan! What other games are you considering? Cheers!

The guides were impressive. I like the artwork they contain. I’ll have to pickup a few in the future. Cheers!

The best branch of Super Potato that I’ve been too, possibly verging on the best game store period. The prices might look insane but it’s comparable, and sometimes even cheaper than eBay. Can’t wait to visit again next month.

It’s a great shop that’s worth visiting, no doubt about it. Cheers!

I went to that branch of SP back in 2019, so much improvement today in the shop’s layout. There were just tons and tons of stuff on the floor, and the display cases were filled with pricey or very rare stuff (I call those cabinets “the stuff of hopes and dreams” 😅). I bought a few carts and other gaming knicknacks there. Super Potato is really on the more expensive side, but when compared to the rest of the retro game shops in Denden Town there’s no denying of the quality of their merch. If you’re a tourist and got limited time shopping then SP is your best bet
@RetroReWire
@RetroReWire Год назад
Thanks for the insight! The layout is def nice, and it just draws you into its depths. I agree that although expensive, it can break even with other shops by sheer convenience. They mostly got it all and for the time constrained tourist, it can make sense. Cheers!

Do you recall seeing any 2D or 3DS's? The new 2DS or 3DS. I'm going to Osaka next month. I've been to the Super Potato in Akihabara the past couple times I went to Japan..such a great store.

They’re all fairly common, you shouldn’t have much trouble finding them. There was a Book Off Plus that I recall having a few. Stock changes but it’s worth checking. Here is the Book Off Plus address: BOOKOFF PLUS Namba Ebisubashi Store 06-6214-2080 maps.app.goo.gl/8GLQFt8mnp2zNbTL9?g_st=ic Happy hunting, cheers!

I saw a few Vita titles in Osaka. Surugaya had a decent selection. They’re about a block away from Super Potato. Cheers!

3:18 - OMG, all those Neo Geo AES games. It can be hard to find a single AES game at retro game stores on the US. Don't think I've ever seen an AES console at any retro store. 20:26 - But then I saw a better look at the prices. Over $500 USD for (what looks like the Japanese version) Magician Lord and League Bowling? What a joke.
@RetroReWire
@RetroReWire Год назад
I love seeing all this stuff in stock, but I agree that some price are a bit crazy. It def pays to hunt around for a better deal. Magician Lord on the Neo Geo CD is also rising in price it seems. Cheers!

@@RetroReWire I'm sure some of it has to do with the skyrocketing prices in general happening worldwide. But I've heard Super Potato did have amazing prices once upon a time, but apparently those stores have increasingly been the first place many Americans and other Westerners stop when they go game hunting in Japan. As a result, it seems they felt they can jack up prices up and people not knowledgeable with the better prices found at other Japanese gaming stores will still buy from them. Unless those AES games I saw are BRAND new/never opened (and maybe even if they are), those prices are a ripoff. I've seen those games going for less in mint condition on Ebay. Though one thing I do admire about the Japanese is how well the treat their games. A lot of Japanese packaging on games from decades ago was literally just cardboard or cheaper plastic than many American versions, yet there seems to be FAR more Japanese used games, CIB and in immaculate condition. Wish I'd taken such care of my games as a kid in the 80's-90's, but I (and everyone I knew) usually simply threw away the boxes and often the manuals over time for games on consoles like the SNES and N64.
@RetroReWire
@RetroReWire Год назад
@@chad3232132 I totally relate with the throwing away boxes bit. I also remember taking the game manuals to school and them getting thrashed, haha! With regard to Super Potato, they certainly are aware of the whole retro gaming demand. Most folks, local and tourists alike, typically have have their phone in hand and compare prices while shopping at these places. Every now and then they do have a decent deal. I suppose the higher prices is also the cost of low hanging fruit? Moreover, the convenience for those visiting Japan with friends and family that are not interested in gaming. Their game hunting time is severely limited, I know first hand, haha. Cheers!

Indeed, there were a few games I wanted, but they were out of my budget. I did find a few things at a shop down the street for less money, too. Still, the shop is worth visiting. Cheers!
