Some zalman memory heatsinks on the core ... hole in the top, take some juice from the dc jack and power a 80mm external fan with it. Granted it's not going to be pretty, but it's effective. Used to do this with my overclocked DD-WRT linksys routers.
Whoa, someone who actually seems to know what they're talking about when it comes to wavelengths and frequencies... and convection. Nice. This makes me glad I ordered the 68U (well, 68W, technically, which is the white version), since it sits upright and has good venting.
Have them on my RT-AC68U. Had issues with range for some reason. Had the newest firm ware. uninstalled and reinstalled older dirvers, no good. So I reinstalled. fiiixied the settings, and Added these badboys. Saw an improvment in terms of range in both 5 and 2.4. so it's definitely worth the the 20 bucks
Hey Tim, this was one of the first videos I saw from u and you may remember me because I was the guy who warned you about the legal limits of power through the antennas xD. I'm glad it all worked good for you though! Have you thought about mixing the antennas for 5 GHz optimization? Maybe just put a high dbi antenna in the middle for 2.4 and have the other two short ones for optimal 5GHz operation. I honestly don't think neighbors would care much about seeing your access point, at least I don't when I see others. I don't love in a very crowded area though so your mileage may vary. Glad to see your channel growing though, I don't always have time to watch vids but I do when I can! The smaller people on RU-vid like you are a lot of the time the best people to watch. Anyway, keep it up Tim
Great Video. Thank you Timmy What routers will work with these kind of 9dbi antennas. My aim is to upgrade the range on a Asus RT-AC87U. I am totally ready to sacrifice the 5,0GHz band for better 2,4 GHz range. Question is will this kind of 9dbi work? What antenna specification should I look for? :)
what if you set it on a cheap laptop cooler? also of the 3 antennas which ones are 2.4 and which ones are the 5 ghz? could you just chanhe 1 or 2 2.4 antennas and not the 5ghz?
I know call me over kill bill but after having more then one of my routers over heat due to how humid, and warm it can get here during the summer here in SC, I keep a small little personal size desk fan, and I run it on low speed, and sense i don't currently do a lot of intensive streaming in my house, my old Linksys WRT-54G V2 with DD-WRT, and extended antennas stays cool, and stable, with 2 cheap N range extenders I can cover my whole house, and then some, best $18(router GoodWill, and antennas off eBay) I ever spent on a router lol! BTW if anyone is curious the extenders I use are Sabrent NT-WRPT which I found 2 for on eBay last year used for $30, which are normally about $25-$27 a pop, and the setup can be a bitch but once setup with the right router they are stable, but beware if they are put near a microwave, and it gets turned on they will more times then not drop signal like a rock, and I will say that is one thing I hate about 2.4Ghz wireless devices, but most main stream things still only seem to have 2.4Ghz, so until 5Ghz becomes the pure universal standard I don't see the point for myself in getting a 5Ghz router, and extenders.
