Another way that I’ve seen people view Chief’s “luck” is that he’s really just incredibly capable at observing a situation and making the best possible option. He sees opportunities that others don’t. This includes the likes of Halsey and Cortana, which is why they just view it as luck because they don’t really see how he’s able to pull off some of the things he’s able to do and their pride has them both just right it off as lucky. And this would make sense because as far as I’m aware of, the only characters that ever reference Chief being lucky is Halsey and Cortana. I’ll be honest and say that I much more like this camp of thought over Chief just being really lucky. It’s more interesting and I think it better than just having Chief be arbitrarily lucky.
Ive read that Spartans have this thing called "spartan time" where their nervous system is so much more advanced than normal humans, their reflexes are much much faster and allows them to perceive things almost in slow motion. This enables chief to always know what the coin will be when tossed for example. He's not just super lucky, he just sees things that others can't.
I kinda disagree, but i do get where you come from. I think it adds a certain level of mystique to chief that his luck is what sets him apart from other Spartans. Trying to justify and explain it with logic kinda takes away from that magic. Plus, I sincerely doubt that Chief is the only one capable of analyzing situations like he can. If Linda can snipe a banshee pilot one handed upside down, I think she can analyze a given situation very well. John has something else, something only the man who did the impossible countless times had. Trying to explain it with logic kinda takes away from his status as a sorta war messiah.
@@aves4270 While Linda might be able to snipe that way, she wouldn't notice the stealth Elite behind her while that focused. John would... but then again he'd miss the snipe.
If I remember correctly, Fred could have been the Spartan we play throughout the halo series, BUT he didn't want fame and notoriety & reputation. So he allowed John to take the place. The man wants peace and quiet
@@xChickenMediaJohn was always just better then Fred, even during training Fred had to rely on John to come up with plans during there training exercises to win Fred knew John was more observant and tactical rarely losing, which is why John was given leader ship of blue team. also reason why johns still in charge is because johns leader of blue team by oni Fred wasn't supposed to get that rank in the first place and the one that gave him that rank didn't have the authority to either as he was declared MIA another spartan 2 that was also given a high rank he wasn't supposed to have
Sam was the strongest, imagine what he would’ve been like if he didn’t die so young. And I’m pretty sure William was the best at hand to hand combat, dude killed a Hunter with his bare hands.
His specialties are CQC and explosives but he’s not quite the best at CQC. He’s the best with explosives though, specifically the SPNKR. Able to predict and take out Banshees at long range even without tracking. CQC always comes down to Kelly or Fred, with Fred having better technique but Kelly beating him anyway because she’s just so fast at everything, even by Spartan II standards.
@@onefadedgunner3281grace specialized in explosives and demolitions not rocket launchers specifically like William. She was said to have made bombs super easily, while will shoots them
Honestly most if not all of the spartan IIs have some kinda distinct trait Kurt with his ability to sense traps and being a amazing tactical mind And George both physically immense, and also being a extremely caring, very loving person Those are two honestly good examples
I once wrote a story about the “worst of the S-IIs,” or the Spartans who had seemingly the most useless talents above the others, but who ended up being pretty useful in the end.
Honestly many of the novels should've been games. There is a lot of stuff you can do with the books and in good ways too. Even having unique covenant combat or zero G environments.
Kurt was always able to sense something off, and it was part of why I adore him as a character. His perspective was always different from the others (in Ghosts of Onyx John even mentions this, thinking about how it's the reason for his misgivings of having Kurt fill in on Blue after Sam's death).
Yep, I loved in ghosts of onyx's flashback when Kurt told blue team he had "just a feeling" and everyone went. "Okay, Kurt just had a feeling, everyone listen."
Halo Point of Light, there's a point where Inspector Veda Lopez and Fred are sliding down a hill. To be fair, Veda is not Fred's CO, however she does eventually lead the Gammas as a Ferrit team
I think it's because he knows he's incredibly skilled, but also aware he is reckless, which is probably why he let Chief lead. I guess he's more of a vanguard that follows orders
@@elijahaitaok8624he didn't let Chief lead chief was always better then him chief was the one that always came up with the plans and rarely lost because of it which Is why chief was assigned to lead blue team
I so desperately want a Halo game from the perspective of an ODST or a standard infantryman where the first 33%-50% of the game you never see (but only hear of or about) a Spartan until shit is all but lost. To have the feeling of desperation and struggle for hours of gameplay to finally seeing a Spartan plow through a building and reek absolute havoc through incredible feats of power … to feel the hope and adrenaline of seeing a Spartan like every NPC that saw us as Chief- chef’s kiss.
A leader is not being good at everything. It understanding the strengths of the team and using them correctly. Master chef became the leader of blue team and gain the aberration because he recognized the strength like Kurt- 051 having a level of intuition over battle field that chef didn’t recognize. As well as chef valuing all the Spartans lives when he made sure that they make it back to base during there training exorcize on reach.
Its not luck. Its just that he is analytical. His super power is being a tank with the brain of Sherlock Holmes. It takes him less than a second to understand what the threat is, where it is, and how to deal with it.
Luck is essentially preparation on a situation. Even if you slightly prepare for something you might seem "lucky". But John seems to always roll on the good side of his analytics.
Not just the current members either. I believe Sam was the tallest and strongest of the Spartans. And Kurt had a sixth sense for dangerous situations and traps, and his tactical mind and leadership was second probably only to Chief himself.
@@camt6891 Sam was the strongest and it wasn't even close, the Guy had brutish strength. I think in one book John mentions this saying that Sam benched almost triple the amount that John maxes out at. If there was one Spartan who could've physically overpowered a Brute 1 on 1, it would've been Sam.
John is the perfect example of Jack of All Trades, and thats exactly whats needed. He surrounded himself with people more specialized, but it doesnt mean he cant do their jobs, just that he would also be doing 6 other jobs at the same time.
John doesn’t have ONE single “super ability” (except his resolve), instead he’s balanced, good/great in all areas…and maybe; that’s his SINGLE ability.
if I remember correctly Fred was also insanely good at hand to hand combat and close quarters which is why john liked him being on the team. john's really good at picking Spartans that excel where he cant. he's a really well rounded spartan but he wanted a team that could excel where he couldn't.
John-117, Fred-104, Kurt-051, Jerome-092…. Any of those 4 Spartan IIs could have been “The Master Chief”…. But it was John-117 who set the “STANDARD” of what a Spartan is, and can do, just a little a smidgen higher than the others!…. Remember, John-117 is not overly extraordinary among the Spartans, he is the AVERAGE, the baseline.
Never understood the chief is "average" statement, out of 33 spartans chief was still in the top 5 best. What makes him average? No one calls red team average despite them being augmentation failures who had to be reaugmented making them less powerful than other spartan 2s yet they're praised so much. yall just hate chief
There were others with unusual abilities... When they seen what I could do in that game they called me it too... Can you guess what it was? That's right... The power some Spartans have... To be the... Hyperlethal Vector.
I love that about the chief. Great all rounder which is why he was so damn effective by himself during the original trilogy. Also makes that sad in hindsight, Spartans are supposed to work in teams and he had to deal with the covenant, halo and the flood on his own essentially. Great stuff.
John is the epitome of “to good for his own good” I mean considering he’s able to actually go to distance without even trying it’s just his own body is what contains him to not absolutely wipe out the entire covenant; ignore the movies it did him no justice
FROM THE BOOK Halo: The Fall of Reach," Dr. Catherine Halsey selected Fred-104 for the SPARTAN-II program due to his exceptional qualities that made him stand out among the other candidates. Fred was notably intelligent, physically capable, and had a strong sense of leadership. His ability to work collaboratively with others and his resilience in the face of challenges were qualities that Dr. Halsey found particularly valuable. Fred's leadership potential and tactical mindset, along with his physical prowess, made him an ideal candidate for the program, which sought to create super-soldiers capable of handling the overwhelming threats facing humanity in the Halo universe. These aspects of Fred's character and abilities distinguished him during the selection process. He was not a jack of all trades as from the books he was more tactical then the rest of the group
It saddens me deeply that no one ever remembers Sam who was the 5th member of Spartan Blue Team who died tragically aboard a Covenant Vessel during one of, if not, Blue Team’s first encounters with the Covenant. During these early days, the Mjolnir armor had no shields. So while aboard the Covenant vessel Sam’s armor would take a hit and the vacuum seal would be compromised leading to him making a heroic sacrifice; staying behind aboard the vessel as it was destroyed and the rest of Blue Team escaped.
Chief's super specialization is actually that he's unspecialized. He's the Average Spartan II. Being a jack of all spartan trades allows him to be just a bit more adaptable to varying situations than a Spartan who's a complete master at one thing.
Linda isn’t a crazy marksman. She doesn’t need a Spotter because of her helmet having optics that calculate wind, humidity, gravity, distance, angle,Range Finder!
Another viewpoint on Kelly. She doesnt let anyone touch her unless she allowed it. Not even in a Pelican taking AA flak or being pursued by strikecraft you or another Spartan wouldnt touch her unless she allowed it.
@@East_Coast_Toasty_Boy well I got bad news for you since I so happen to have First Strike. "Kelly's hand bumped into Fred's shoulder, and he recognized it as a consoling gesture. Kelly's razor-edged agility was multiplied fivefold by the reactive circuits in her Mjolinr armor. She wouldn't have "accidentally" touched him unless she meant it, and the gesture spoke volumes." And that's from Fred's perspective. Not Chief.
I'm sure I read somewhere that Fred was second best at everything, he actually has a high rank than John by halo 5 but still defers to John because he was originally chosen to be in charge of the spartan 2's
Chief's luck isn't just a insubstantial thing. People have this in real life. I have seen people who DO NOT DESERVE good luck, get crazy lucky. They chalk it up to "skill". It's not just skill. Also, Chief is very very good at being a leader. Insane Luck + Incredible Leadership Ability= John-117 Master Chief.
John also thinks that Fred would have made an amazing leader because he really connects with other people and can empathize well, but that also leads Fred to take losses especially hard, and thus making Fred NOT be a perfect leader. Because Fred won't choose the hard choice.
Fred and John, with their super generic names, are the generalists. That's.... it's almost like an in joke written without intending to unless it was and that makes it somehow even better to me
John got the highest Charisma roll out of all the spartans, that’s his superpower. Granted, he rolled a 5 to everyone elses’ 0, but it makes a difference lol
I wish halo game 7 is were Chief and his old squad team meets up and takes down atriox by doing teamwork and planning it out by using each of there capability to wear it can help defeat the banished and whoever the endless is.
@@ExelArts Lol, I have though. Literally everything you attribute to luck can be explained through his ability to process information and make decisions based on what's around him.
