I failed at the final hurdle of getting MIDI audio (to the speakers) and data to a monitor (MIDI-OX) out of Reaper. I'm new to Reaper so just starting to learn the basics.
Hi Sebastian! Check out a company called Spitfire audio, they have a range of plugins called Labs, which has several different piano plugins all for free, along with a bunch of other realistic sounding instruments. To install most plugins you just need to download the file and run the installer, it'll ask where you want it to be installed, this is where you need to check in Reaper for your VST folder. Go to "options>Preferences", and then scroll down the list on the left of the pop-up window until you see "Plug-ins>VST" on the VST page there will be the path at the top, you can add other paths here too if needed. Hope that helps, and let me know how you get on with it Thanks Lewis
Hi there, which keyboard do you have? Can you see it in the list of MIDI input devices in reaper? If you can give me some more info I'll try to help out, hopefully we can sort this for you! 👍
Are you able to have an interface with studio speakers hooked up to it and also just have the akai plugged into the computer via usb? What would you set your audio settings to in reaper to hear the sound through the studio speakers when playing the akai? Thanks
Hi Sheldon! Yes if you go info Preferences>Audio>Devices, then you can set the interface that you want to use there. Then go into Preferences>Audio>MIDI devices to set up the akai or any other MIDI controller that you're using. Thanks!
@@LewisGale it's a novation launchpadmini mk3. after 2hrs of new drivers, firmware, disabling usb power saving etc etc. the low hanging fruit was it was the wrong cable. iv had that happen with other devices - even though it is the correct connection they are rated differently.. perhaps data, like hdmi and usb 20.0 vs 3.0 etc. anyway.. i had already tried 3 cables and they didnt work on the unit but did with other devices... found a 4th and worked instantly
I'm giving up on Reaper. Every tutorial has a different layout and the menus are no longer what they are in this video either. They keep changing things around for absolutely no reason.
