That ribbon was like a whisper, NOT a shout.. you need a ribbon that SHOUTS!!... You gotta remember, that Sophie isnt the ONLY nervous kid in the ring.. all of those kids are hyper focused on their own horses, and a tiny red ribbon isnt going to catch ANYONES eye.. 90% of the time i couldnt even see it in the video, so that should tell you something.. if WE cant see it on camera, then someone who is hyperfocused on their own task wont see it either...

if you want to be more visable for caution, get that ribbon from the craft store that has tinsel and wire in it... theres no way you can blame other people if you are actually flashing in their faces

Respectfully, I’m gonna somewhat disagree here. If your child can’t understand show etiquette, and stay aware of their surroundings, then they shouldn’t be in the ring unaccompanied. That’s how accidents happen. Pretty bog standard to know you don’t get too close to other horses, red ribbon or not. And looking up and round, you should notice it pretty quickly. Nerves, yes are going to cloud peoples minds and judgements a little bit. But as someone who had a more reactive horse at shows when I was a kid, I was always conscious of my distance to others. Had so many ignorant people come flying up behind my horse and then act surprised when she kicks out. So rude and frustrating. A big bow is smarter, yes, but other people should be just as responsible..

One thing I have learned is that you CANT depend on ANYONE to do the right thing( red ribbon in his tail or not) next time tell Sophie to take control of the situation if she finds it to be like how it’s going here( tell her if there is a crowd , move to somewhere in the ring that is quieter, say in the middle etc) being that you’ve had storm for this long and know he’s uncomfortable with other horses around him, Sophie can take the initiative and move him to where they will both be happier/more comfortable and can show off their best attributes ❤️ having her learn this now will absolutely help her later in life problem solve etc❤️❤️

I think that the judge could have/should have asked the riders not to bunch out & to spread out from the get go. It was a bigger class than last week, but Sophie did a good job of trying to stay focused initially. The other thing the judge could have done was to divide the class into 2 groups when she saw that everybody was bunching up. Storm reacted to what was actually a dangerous situation. There appeared to be novice riders (not Sophie) who either were oblivious to the close proximity of so many horses as they bunched up &/or who didn't really have control of their horses & didn't know what to do. This was a schooling show & the judge knew that. Sophie, congratulations. You just went through a baptism by fire. You did really well. You stayed with Storm throughout everything. I hope that you can own how much you have grown & improved. You stayed in the ring & you looked composed before the bucking & after it was all over.

May I suggest investing in a flashier red bow? Something that may be bigger and a different shade of red? At times it was hard for me to see the bow in his tail, even knowing it's there. The other kiddos could definitely have kept a wider berth, but with the size of the show it's hard not to get swallowed by the pack. Sophia did phenomenal for all she had to work with. Sophie, I am so proud of you, you stayed in that ring and you carried on, you didn't get mad at storm and you did the safest thing for you both and used the middle of the ring and continued like nothing happened. That was a lot of horses for that ring for that class. I get it was scary, I've never been the most confident rider (well sometimes I seemed it but didn't take much to knock me back) so I totally get how that experience can be (my loan jumping horse was a kicker) Don't let this knock your confidence, you've come so far with storm. I'd be interested to know if Sophie actually can hear Gabby. If she can then maybe just let Gabby instruct during comp, as having too many voices talking to you plus concentrating what you're doing can end up that you hear nothing. Good call getting her to use the middle though Laura. Maybe a bigger red ribbon might be good too.

Such a shame. There were a few people in that ring with pretty shitty sportsmanship- in particular a lady on a dark bay, dark jacket and hat on a very forward going horse. If you look at both of Storm’s incidents- it was the same horse that caused them. Please tell Sophie she did nothing wrong, she rode incredibly well. Unfortunately in horsey land, there are some very very selfish people. When I used to compete behaviour like that either got you kicked out, or you lost your ribbon.

@@DayByDayVlogs I hope you didn't haul goats in the horse trailer. None of the horses will want to go on it when they smell goat; well, with the exception of Honey & she doesn't know any better. 🤣 I can just about imagine how the permanent move went regardless which horses moved 1st. All the neighing that went on & the pacing & pawing of each little hoof...🤣😂

Most rider know and understand red ribbon, so why ride so close, even novice rider , and for bunching up like that how the heck did judge , judge them like that

Sophie handled that situation really well. Most people would have cracked but she kepted her cool and after like nothing happened and looked like a professional.

I think its just one of the lessons that come with horse shows! Every time something like this happens it shows you what to work on!

This show was REALLY poorly handled! I felt so bad for Sophie.. any time we had a class of 10 or more we ALWAYS split it to canter, and REALLY large classes we just split and created a whole new group. It is so dangerous having that many horses crammed together with KIDS riding .. I do think you need to get a larger ribbon for his tail, that tiny one was just not visible enough. The judges should NOT have knocked Sophie for Storms behavior because you Had him marked! It was not her fault that other riders kept crowding him.. I think over all she handled it VERY well. When I judged and saw a child struggling like that I ALWAYS made it a point after the class to go to them and TELL them why they were scored the way they were and to tell them that they did a good job. I feel like especially as a children’s judge you have to instill confidence and a show like that can sure put a ding in your confidence. Please tell her she did great and that what happened was truly beyond her control. She was riding well.. her hands were a little busy, but I think that was nerves because of the large class, I think she was afraid of what he was going to do next. Just tell her hands down and forward and breathe and RELAX.. and try to have fun despite the stress.. wish I could give her a big hug, I know she needed it after that.

I thought she did well too! Definitely getting a more visible ribbon!

Sophie rode amazing! The class should have been split in two and I think other riders could have respected the red ribbon better and kept their distance.

Sophia did just fine in the show, even though she got scared. Good job for finishing out the show, Sophia! Storm was just reacting to being crowded out & Sophia was reacting to Storm. That should've been split into 2 groups. It is dangerous to have so many horses in an arena at the same time. The judge should not have blared out on the speaker when Storm was in front of her either, after seeing him bucking... IF she saw it at all! She could've let Storm pass! Frankly, I'm a lot more impressed to see Gabby at the show coaching Sophia & Storm, than I am to see Kaleigh there. It was nice of you Laura to go speak to her, though.

I'm actually really proud of gabby for her coaching ans supporting sophie. Kailey even took time out of that show to take sophie under her wing and help her! I was proud of all 3 of them!
