I like the shift in tone when the logo appears. "Shooting ink yaaaay wait a second are those 50 horsemen of apocalypse?"

I like how Ultimates theme plays in the background.

It's hard to notice, but.. Listen very closely to the audio at 0:47 and you can hear ''lifelight'' quietly behind the fire!

The foreshadowing of this trailer is amazing. It shows what happens at the end of the final smash direct, which all the characters just together, emotionless showing their deaths, whilst in the background you hear the faint vocal track of what appears to be the main theme tune

That would have been funny if the boy inkling splatted her while she was distracted.

I love this spin on a smash character reveal. Rather than willingly joining smash, it is unexpectedly forced upon them, as if it is their inescapable fate.

I love this reveal still. The whole "welcome to hell" feel to it. The tremble in the inklings eyes as it realize where it is... as if they tell stories about this place. Legends they can't tell for sure if are real or just meant to scare kids. The jaded greeting of the veterans... They pity newcomers to this life, but they have also seen them arrive many times before. Mario: "They aren't ready, they shouldn't be here." Link: "None of us should." Edit: Added an imagined conversation.

Still the greatest trailer in Smash Ultimate shown. It wasn't just the reveal, but how it was revealed. How it was presented all dark in the mysterious was amazing.

I like how mario goes from a happy friendly dude in Odyssey to a demon in this trailer.

Going back, you can hear Ultimate's theme pretty clearly in the background after it zoomed up on the characters.

i love how mario and link look so intimidating, kinda like "welcome to the club, kids..." specially after mario odyssey and botw have received worldwide acclaim, it's like looking at the gods. and the inklings face while looking at the smash sun... like in pure awe at the fact that they are in presence of the nintendo gods. (even if they have raced in mario kart, but that's even less canon than smash which is also non canon lol)

Here’s a neat detail: At around 0:44, when the smash ball was revealed, you can hear the main theme being hummed. It’s very quiet but just take a listen!

I still remember that day clearly, it was rigbt after school, my phone was about to die but i knew that direct was coming and i needes to see it and even tho my phone charger was fucked and couldn't really charge while my phone was on and i needed to be close to the window in order to "borrow" my neighbor's internet, nothing waa stopping me from watching this direct. With announcment after announcement, i wasnt really paying attention, all on my mind was "will there be a smash fro switch?" Pretty much the only thing occupying my mind since the switch was officially revealed. When they said at the end that tje presentation was over, i felt bummed, was about to turn off my phone, until they said "well.... We have one more announcment" and it was at that moment that every nintendo fan watching had the same thought "is this smash?" And then the trailer played with the 2 inklings fighting, again, hypeness, went down as my immediate though was that it was gonna be a splatoon 1 port (even though that didnt make any sense with splatoon 2 already out) and i just continued watching. As the background turned dark and the inkling girl turning around and looking up, we saw into her eye but just a single, simple, yet effective logo.... The smash logo. As soon as i saw that i shoved back into my chair, screaming in pure joy, my phone falling down to the floor turning off after disconnecting to the charger, i didnt need to see anything else Smash Was On Switch To me, thats the best moment I've ever had as a gamer

I went back to this trailer after Ultimate came out. Just to hear it…to hear the choir again. Yep. That’s Lifelight. Our first taste of Lifelight, and we barely heard it. Our first sweet taste of a theme that swirls in your ears like the smell of fruity perfume. This whole trailer is a beautiful look into something that really made this year. It went on for almost the whole year. That’s the one thing about 2018 that we must remember forever. It’s the year of Ultimate. The Ultimate year. It‘s been an Ultimate year.

Let's be honest, the animation department at Nintendo is just great.

2018 feels like it was so long ago. Then again, it came right before the era each month felt like it's own year.

Three years ago, on March 8th, 2018, we saw Inkling join Smash Ultimate. It's now October 4th, and Sora from Kingdom Hearts is the final character added to the game.

It's March 8th 2022 as of me writing this, which means Super Smash Bros Ultimate was revealed 4 years ago today as I'm writing this. Probably one of the best teasers/reveals in gaming in my honest opinion. Super Smash Bros Ultimate is one of my most played video games and one of my favorite video games of all time. It's been a journey, from the smash ball reflecting off the Inkling's eye to Sora shaking hands with Mario.
