As today marks the 44th anniversary of the SAS assault that ended the Iranian Embassy Seige I thought id share a comic my good friend ‪@RMMilitaryHistory‬ gave me - 'Super Soldiers of the SAS'. The Battle Action Force comic includes sections on famous SAS operations, equipment and weapons, it was printed at the height of the SAS' noteriety.

Once Star Wars started to die down, Action force fillfilled the role of awesome 3 3/4" action figures for me.

It was a 'cutout' that came as part of Battle Action Force comic over a number of weeks in October 1984. Most of the art looks like it was by Geoff Campion (who died in 1997).

I owned the Palitoy Iranian Embassy costume for my full size Action Man. The costume had a black coverall with hood, the S6 Respirator, a black flack jacket, a MP5A3 with the tropical hand guard and straight magazine. Also included was a black belt, a holster, a BHP and most importantly of all - the assaulteers grappling hook with rope. 4:17

I Action Force figures. Remember having the SAS trouper in ‘black’ kit. Also had a frog man. About the same time had a SAS hardback annual. That I would read over and over again.

Very interesting. In 1983th was not a big secret SAS missions in Oman? I though it was totally secret, like existing SAS before Iranian embassy siege

No - there was no need for the SAS in Oman in 1983 [the year after the Falklands War]. The Oman secret war became public knowledge in January 1972, readers of the Observer opened their newspaper to see a report headlined “UK fighting secret Gulf war?” On the same day, the Sunday Times ran a very similar article, asking: “Is Dhofar Britain’s hush-hush war?” British troops, the newspapers revealed, were engaged in the war that the sultan of Oman was fighting against guerrillas in the mountains of Dhofar in the south of the country. However the exact details of SAS/SBS operations after WWII are still secret under the Official Secrets Act & they'll remain secret for many years because of the political implications - Northern Ireland for example has many stories that will never be told until after the 'actors' & politicians are dead [some events will be buried for ever for reasons such as breaking the rules of war].

The inclusion of the AR-18 is an amusing result of the perennial confusion over the name "Armalite". The SAS of course only used the AR-15, not the -18. The PIRA, on the other hand, used both.

American kids had GI Joe then, these Action Force figures looked way better. More realistic and preferable to the kid in me.
@narcotics-eb3om

Actually Action force is the European Gi Joe, in fact it's literally a translation to gi Joe, cause some of there characters in gi Joe were given different nationalites instead of mostly in the United States.
