I have a 55gallon drum but that's huge and i only have a 7 gallon crawfish pot. It's aluminum but I've used aluminum before and it works. I wish I could afford a 15.5gal beer keg but I can't atm. Someone is building me a stainless pot but I want to get a bowl shaped lid and make it that diameter so if you know where I can get a lid like that, let me know please.

@stevealford230
@stevealford230 11 месяцев назад
@@philbillymoonshine7356 that was my exact question... but that tracks: 2 gal averaging 100 proof... if your mash was 20 gal and finished workin off at 7-8%, that's about 200 ounces of total alcohol, double it for 100 proof to 400 ounces, which is 3 gallons and 1 pint... lose roughly a third of that for Foreshots and Heads... and if you proofed with Tails and kept two jars of late Heads, then you end up with 10 Quarts or so. And that's not even taking into account the liquor you used to charge the thumper, which would reduce the amount of Heads and Tails you need to keep to hit 10 jars there. Novices never seem to realize that the thumper charge moves over into the condenser during the run... and if they charge it with water instead of previous Tails, it strips out flavor. Point being @steveduncil5360 the math works here.

Taste is a good gauge when you start making , after a while and learn your still you will find a proof and temp coming out of the still that signals where to start paying attention to cut off . This is not important if you are just making a stripping run as you don’t make any cuts besides getting rid of the methanal at the start .

I don't know why you wouldn't use fresh sweet corn, *IF* you can get it at a good price. Obviously it has more sugar in it than field corn, and that's a good thing, right? As for the price of the corn itself now, that's mostly due to high fuel prices and high fertilizer prices. Around here people have really been struggling to make up their minds whether it's even worth it to plant corn, hay etc. I know a couple folks that decided it was cheaper to just buy hay for their animals from somewhere else, rather than spend all the money on planting and harvesting it. That's not a good sign for the economy in general.
