Where can I buy these as part of a full window assembly? Is it possible to change the white fibreglass spacer to match the colour of the window sash (eg. Bronze)?
If you compare regular U 0.27 IGUs with LiteZone U 0.27 IGUs the cost would be comparable. But as the thickness goes up and more films are added then LiteZone IGUs will cost incrementally more - but with more insulating value. As long as you compare apples to apples regarding U-factor then I think LiteZone will be cost competitive and perhaps less. They've been on the market for 3 or 4 years.
Several window manufacturers today use film between the glass panes to divide up the IGU into spaces. The film suspension system LiteZone uses keeps the films in tension with springs so they are kept taut during expansion and contraction.
Heat Mirror is still in use today. The failures were because of aluminum spacer bars and inadequate seals. We now use warm edge, stainless steel spacers and a polyurethane secondary seal. Robert Clarke, founder of Southwall, used Heat Mirror in the Empire State building. 11, 000 windows and ZERO failures. The films never failed. It was always the sealant or aluminum spacer bars that couldn't hold the tension.
