@@David-Kynaston - I just got the original G9 today and it's running perfectly with 240hz HDR Set up and manually calibrated through the Nvidia panel. (RTX3090) It's freaking epic. They put newer firmware if you buy one brand new. I didn't even have to download firmware and I messed around with all the settings, haven't found bugs yet.
@@cybershellrev7083 Me to. I've just bought one two day's ago (not the Neo) and I've had no problems except the stress of messing with the settings to see what it can do. Like with everything else that's new technology. The only thing that annoyed me so far is the poor local dimming. Ten area's is what my version has! lol. That's awful and extremely noticeable and distracting. But I'm stuck with it now. I'm still very pleased with it. I went from a 65 inch 4K 16:9 monitor to the G9 32:9 and it's right in my face on my desk now. It's very strange as it looks just like 4K as I'm just looking at game footage. Weird. And the colour's, just wow! Edit: I play flight and racing sims with trackir5 so the wide view is great for me. I just bought Red Dead Redemption 2 again just to experience it on PC and at 32:9. The visuals are stunning. I don't know whether to get new games or more planes in DCS.

I’ve spent the entire day watching videos on this monitor, trying to make my case for buying it. This video is by far the most comprehensive and informative of the day. Fantastic review, covered all my questions perfectly. Thanks so much.
Thought about this monitor but I ended up going with the LG cx 48 inch. This one had too many sacrifices: limited game support, that side stretching seen in this video, older connections, and especially only 10 edge lit zones. Good review though.
I sold my lg cx for an ultrawide. I know ubisoft is bad for optimized games but after seeing fps on legion and ac valhalla its sad that native 4k 60 fps at ultra is not here yet after all these years. I thought I could enjoy the resolution at low fram rates and tried to enjoy it but It made me realize I love my high fram rates and preformance better that sharper images.
@@newlife45692Ubisoft optimization is shit. Hardware is capable, but the software side from some developers is lacking. Quite a few games I can play 8k 60 fps (rtx 3090) Doom Eternal and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are optimized very well. I get 80~ on Assassin's Creed Oddysey ultra in 4k... Up from 57-60 fps with 1080 ti SLI, which most games had terrible scaling. Glad to be done with SLI. I get you though. I have a 240hz BenQ for eSports gaming and it's buttery smooth and just quick. The Acer Predator X27 feels so sluggish in comparison even when overclocked to 4k 144hz. If I get this monitor it's strictly for immersive gaming with open world or space/flight simulators. The 10 backlit zones for HDR is a bummer :(
Great video, and I find very funny to watch odyssey g9 reviews on the odyssey G9 :) Never going back, just having four or more windows open at once is so so cool. The productivity is insane, coming from 16:9 60hz, what a gigantic difference
meh, i went down this road. but with the earlier Samsung monitor, i believe it was like the CH90 or something. so many games dont support the screen ratio. this is literally at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to game devs and even GPU devs. You know how many NVIDIA updates I saw catering to this screen ratio? like 2 and they were throw away updates. essentially the devs who work on the driver updates just make a band-aid fix to get "most games" to work. The screen is essentially just 2(X) 27 inch monitors at 16:9, but squished vertically..so the devs just jimmy rig driver software. ....check out this video and the image quality on the outer edges of both sides of the screen @4:08 as he spins. everything has to stretch and smear, making everything distorted. not knocking the video or this prawn, i actually like his videos. also, on pretty much all RTS games or ARPG games (or really any game where you have to 'click the ground" to move) suffer big time. because although you can see the ground below you far away on the edges, you are unable to click and move to them. the ARPG devs (diablo 3, path of exile, StarCraft, dota, LOL) dont want you to essentially "see" monsters/packs ahead of you, killing them before they are even aggroed by you. The only video games i found to be "worth it" for would be arcade racing games. that outer smearing on the edges makes you "feel" like you're really whipping through the streets. anyways, welcome to the dark side of PC master race, we have milk and cookies here, stay a while.
This video convinced me to buy it. I have it for couple of months now and I am happy with it. I do not use picture in picture though. Few comments I observed: Pros: Gaming has changed to be much better and more immersive but what has mostly changed for me is using the PC as a workplace. Previously I have had two 24'' monitors and whenever I come back to that setup to my office it just doesn't feel right any more. One huge monitor seems to be much better in that context. Watching movies is great, finally the movie is at the centre of the desk and it is not that bad for multiple people watching when taking angle of the monitor into consideration. Cons: If you are planning to buy this monitor, brace yourself. Couple of first days is really tough to get used to it. Some people experience nausea, it wasn't that bad for me but I felt strange. Back of it looks nice but is really not that practical, especially the place for cables, you need to spend some time on it to make it close nicely. Updating the firmware on it might be pain. For me it was. I have tried 8 different pendrives before one started to be recognized by the monitor. If that happens to you as well I suggest to leave it there and close the cover. You will have access to it from you PC (if you connected USB from the monitor) and next updates will be easier to do. If you are using Windows it is not that great with managing windows. You can use PowerToys from Microsoft but it is far from windows managers that linuxes offer. Neutrals: You need powerful machine to get full of the monitor on new games.
He said that he plugged in two DP cables, so no freesync = no problems in the video. Don't expect similar results. :) I had 4 G7/G9 and all of them were a trash tier flickering mess when transitioning between VRR/LFC.
@@yukegaming8788 Yea I was about to get one but saw too many negative reviews. Now debating between LG Ultra gear 34 inch curved or the alienware with similar specs. What do you think? It's actually mainly for macbook pro usage not really gaming as I play on consoles with oled tv. But I want a monitor that is future proof as I want to build a gaming pc newt the end of this year.
@@OcRaMsTuTs This will actually perform better than a 4K monitor. The 4K monitor will be sharper, but a more immersive experience with this monitor. And less taxing on your system.
I was really interested in one of these. Then reality bit, left quite a nasty mark! Lovely if you can stomach the price. I think I'll upgrade to a (far) cheaper ultrawide 34" and put the rest of the money towards a VR headset for some (even more) immersive sim experiences. Lovely monitor, though.
Same. I'm not going to go 34 this time since I'm so used to my 34 from LG from 2017. 34 Is awesome but I do feel like I need a slightly bigger monitor so the perfect "In Between" monitor I found for my needs rn is very likely the newest AW3821DW. It's 144 HZ, it's got G SYNC Ultimate, it's got 1 ms Response, Nano IPS, all that. It's pretty much the Odyssey's smaller brother who's still-large-among-the-typical-ultrawide monitor which is usually a 34 inch.
The Skewing on the G9 did it in for me TBH and I love having speakers on the side of my setup/monitor, I wouldn't really have the room for any if I went with the G9 as it's a Behemoth. I'd probably have to mount them above or place some on my desk somewhere beneath the monitor which I'd hate cause I love having my Desk real estate. I'm good.
My friend got the Odyssey G9 and after I tried it out, I immediately bought the CRG9 for $899 on Amazon. It might not be the same thing but playing on a 5120x1440p, it is an experience that I can't go anything less than that.
@@galahad8856 38” 24:10 3840x1600 is the sweet spot and this is coming from someone who owns a 49” CRG9. With 32:9 you get good immersion however the screen doesn’t have enough height therefore you sort of feel as if you are watching through a narrow slit. The 38” size matches human vision FoV more closely. At 32:9 you will also get a lot perspective distortion close to the screen edges. You can clearly see it in this video while he was playing AC Odyssey. It is possible to fix but only in games that allow you to reduce FoV (which will also reduce your vertical FoV in order to match so it is not a great solution). Also very important, all high refresh 32:9 options are currently VA panels not IPS. While the new G9 solves the slow dark to light pixel response times VA panels are notorious for, it unfortunately it doesn’t solve the brightness flickering that occurs when freesync / gsync is enabled on games with wildly fluctuating frame rates (also VA issue). In conclusion the 144hz 38” nano IPS monitors are currently the king of ultra wide gaming monitors. The only 2 areas where the 49” class beats them is contrast ratio and productivity tasks (more screen real estate).
@@gencoserpen1260 thank you for your opinion! So you would choose the lg 38gn950 instead when compared with the Crg90? I'm just afraid that the contrast is bad with an IPS Panel, idk but it really matters for gaming I guess
I enjoyed mine at first. I had to roll back my drivers every time new drivers would come out and keep it like that for months at a time. Samsung isn't particular with keeping up with their drivers it seems I went with a smaller 4k monitor and man, it's a noticeable difference. Picture quality vs size. 1 of the biggest issues i had when comparing them side by side was how much the G9 skews on the sides. It actually, kind of have an advantage seeing ppl far away looking closer in shooters from the peripherals. But, the much clearer picture is so nice. I'm happy with the trade off. Paying 1,500+ for a monitor that only puts out 120hz at 8bit most the time due to driver updates cause i can't play some games unless my 3080 is updated is just not cool. I rather have my GPU updated to play all my games with my 4k monitor with better picture quality at 144hz. Oh, and it gets extremely hot to the touch.
Yeah the skewing looked very off-putting. This is my Dream Monitor but seeing that also made me realize "Maybe it is a bit too much." I think a good compromise in the middle for Half the Dream, and none of the Skewing (so maybe, actually FULL ON DREAM) would be the newest Alienware which kicks the size up a notch. Instead of your usual 34 Inch Ultrawide, it's now 38 inches. I feel like that is such a good size up from my norm of 34, and the further (2300mm) curve from my usual 1800 will probably be much easier to work with than this giant ODYSSEY of 49 inches lmfao.
Just got the CRG9. I know it’s inferior but Irenas a huge step for me still coming from an old 16:10 Samsung (whereas I still believe 32:10 would be better).
I don't think a 2070 super is powerful enough to really use this monitor in most games. I'd recommend atleast a 3070. I'll buy this monitor too and i fortunately got my hands on a 3080. Can't wait to play on it.
Get the best of both worlds, darkmatter by monoprice exists, its closely comparable to the CRG9 not the G9, still oled, still 1440p and 120hz. But its way cheaper.
@@vulpix9210 for a 2070 this would make sense but with my setup i will go for the g9 especially because alot of games i play can take advantage of 240 hz refresh rate with my hardware and i can afford it.
@@Landgraf43 theres no way youre running a game at 240 hz and 5120 by 1440p on a 2070 unless youre at low settings, which go completely against the point of getting a high end monitor. I have a 5120 by 1440p screen, with a 6900XT, i barely get 150 FPS in things like siege
@@vulpix9210 i don't have a 2070 i have a 3080 and a 5900x. In some esport titles i can easily hit over 200 fps even at that resolution especially with dlss. And i plan to keep the monitor for a while so its good future proofing
got it for about 1k on amazon in very good used condition, updated to latest firmware and honestly its worth it- hdr 1000 at 240 hz with gsync on at 1440p ultrawide at the same time is just nuts, its totally worth it at that price imo (didnt wanna spend 1700 though i wouldnt spend that much on a monitor anyway)
@@mikerzisu9508 lol, I started having doubts also, but it was too late to cancel the order (GameStop), so I’ll give it a fair try. Also it was too hard to pass up the $700 off sale! I plan on using it for my MacBook Pro, PS5/XSX, and building a PC one day whenever the graphics cards are in stock!
The stretched edges are a hard "no" for me. I wonder if devs could patch that or if modders could fix it. It would take more graphical horsepower, but it would look SO much better. If it can't be fixed I'd rather a good 40+ inch 4k 16:9 display for games like RDR2.
Same here. Only see out of my left eye, I think my neck would start killing me. But if it magically ended up in my office somehow, I doubt if I'd complain much ;)
Man nice review awesome voice lol Hopefully you see this 1 question do you think you can use this monitor for competitive gaming. I mean for the likes of csgo and battlefield 5 and bf2042 And warzone ? I mean there's a lot of pixels to push and for competitive you want to hit 240fps to take advantage You think a 11900k & 3080ti can do this or should I go the g7 32inch This monitor is sexy af I have the chance to buy 1 of a friend for £450 But I dont know if it will hold me back competitively What's your honest opinion And 1 new sub from me dude Ty
The issue I find with bigger monitors is not the width but the distance you sit to it. I see some people sat so close to the monitor and I am like "HOW?!". Does it not bother you sitting so close? lol
Bliss! I love working and gaming in ultrawides for the real estate, but this is another order above! Thanks for the in depth review. I know reviews back in the early summer noted problems with flickering and casing tear away so I was wondering if Samsung had fixed that. Thanks again.
I bought it a few months ago and regret it now. Something no one ever says about this monitor is fisheye effect(image distortion at borders) which becomes an absolute eyesore once you notice it.
Same! I'm picking up my new PC setup today with an i9 10900k and 3090 with 64GB DDR4 4266 mhz I think with this monitor! I'm so pumped, taking a week off 😁😁
18:17 can one use monitor like this and have other softwares like OBS and Chat instead of black bars? Seems to be a bit akward to have it slipt in to two and tilting head on right or left side when gaming 16:9
I wanna say thank you for this video. Although I've already purchase myself my 1st 4K TV (LG CX), part of me wants to get this monitor in the future. I love playing games like Planet Coaster, racing games and such, and see this monitor as a good option. Yet idk if I should go for 1440p, or those other 1080p 32:9 monitors for the higher refresh rate. Overall, awesome video!
Now that we know Mini-LED is a thing on Samsung 2021 Neo QLED TVs, it's a safe bet we'll be getting a big upgrade to this monitor in the next year or so. HDR is the biggest weakness of this display and with Mini-LED the zone count is going to balloon to probably 100x or more zones than what the TV has now (that being right now is only 10 zones).
biggest problem I had after I got an ultrawide was the movies I got a 3440*1440 monitor and I found that getting your movies in 4k and then scaling to the screen works pretty well with minimal stretching , not sure it will still work with this aspect ration.
There's just too much fisheye/strech effect on the peripheral for me... even more than on a 21:9 monitor. It bothers me on me 34" widescreen, it drives me nuts on the 49".
How much fpsdrop will you get with this screen with its 5100x1440 compared to say a 27" screen? And if you use it like 3 27" screens, would that prevent it?
I want to use a curved monitor badly, it looks amazing, but I play a Space game mostly, (Star Citizen), and the backlighting that most curved monitors have would just ruin the experience in too many locations in the game. In some areas though, it would be amazing. Nice review though!
I play elite dangerous with a 49 inch curved ultra wide. Some times you do get that faded areas where its black and colourful etc. but to be honest its literally like 1% of the time! It is so stunning to play on! I don’t even have a high end monitor. I have the Electriq 49inch 5120*1440p
Why aren't you talking about how your vertical FoV gets crushed down to almost nothing due to the nature of 32:9? Compare, you may not wanna go back to 32:9 after all. It's a choice thing though. In strategy games or top down action rpg games like diablo, 16:9 is preferable because you won't see the bottom part. In simulation games, 32:9 will beat it no contest. Up to the user what to pick. The thing is, you CAN play 16:9 on 32:9 screen. You can't do it the other way. If you do, prepare for black bars from top and bottom. Either scenario isn't optimal though, so pick your poison. I wouldn't buy it to play strategy games or games like pubg.
Because I don't agree with that. Yes, technically you lose height but imho (which is all this video is) the side-to-side immersion makes it fantastic. But then I don't play top down games like you describe, but I'd certainly say you're wrong about PUBG as well. How much of the sky do you need to see? Anyway, not trying to argue with you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Honestly these monitors (especially 21:9) are not meant for competitive FPS like PUBG, Cod multiplayer, Battlefield, etc. As a competitor FPS player myself, i thought my 21:9 would make me better. Nope.. I was wrong... gave me a massive headache. Decided to buy a smaller 1080p, 240hz and made me a better player. I can see myself playing games like Planet Coater, singleplayer games like read dead, horizon, etc with this monitor. For FPS multiplayer, imo and my experience, this monitor is a huge no.
its like tank periscope , tried it and ill stick with big TV for immersion and 34 for competitive gaming, this is like trying to do everything and doing nothing of it any good, even that split view twitch thing is limited if you do any kind of competitive playing, especially for the price that you can buy 55 inch oled tv + 34 ultrawide va monitor. Also driving all the pixels for that monitor is almost the same as 4k in that OLED TV, major difference is the fact that even QHD looks good , because TV does it upscaling magic, while monitor what you set is what you get
@@TheProvokedPrawn of course it's all about personal choice, I've had it on my desk and returned it, so just sharing my experience. As far as LG OLED that's 120hz and around 10 to 12ms response time, around 16 ms in 4k + freesync and gsync compatible, as far as you want both 34 inch ultrawide and LG OLED TV for the same price - LG BX around 1000 usd, there's Xiaomi mi ultrawide gaming monitor for 400 usd-ish price around 15ms response time without overdrive, with overdrive around 4ms, 144hz QHD, VA panel, if you want top-notch LG 34 inch IPS ultrawide around 1000usd, so the biggest gripe is not display itself, but the price. Thank you very much for your excellent review. I have some additional questions: how are you doing with the black level? Does the monitor suffer from clouding? Do you suffer from backlight bleeding? I'm a bit of a maniac with these things since I like to play in total darkness. And the issue of colors, would you say that in that aspect it looks like an IPS panel? I have had an LG 29" 21:9 which is IPS for some years now and I am afraid to make the leap to Samsung due to the doubts I have.
I got all the parts for a build, except for the infamous elusive RTX 3080 gpu and the new Ryzen 9 5950x cpu. Once I get those two components, I'm picking this monitor up.

I’ve had mine for about a month now. Initially I was worried about the QC and other issues but thankfully I’ve had none. I’m using this in conjunction with an Alienware 34” ultrawide Monitor and like you said I won’t be going back from this. Glad I bit the bullet and bought it. Is it expensive? yeah, but it’s well worth it for what you get. The level of immersion is surreal.
Yeah I read about those issues too, but no problems here. Glad you're enjoying it as much as I am. "The level of immersion is surreal." is a great quote.
I like the idea of min 5:00. This only can be done with this monitor or any other with "picture by picture mode"?. Also I want to know how you avoid the cursor to move to the StreamLabs/Discord tab: by setting the game on borderless/windows mode and change the game resolution?.
The G9 is essentially the same as 2x 2560x1440 27" monitors side by side with no bezels between. So compare a 1440p 27" & a 4k 27" monitor and you will see the difference in PPI and sharpness. Personally 4k in a normal size screen has too high of a PPI for me to use comfortably and I need to use windows built in scaling to make text and screen elements comfortably usable at a normal distance, add in windows scaling not being perfect and it kinda sucks to use something with a very high PPI. 4k 27" is about 165PPI while 1440p 27" is about 110PPI (at the cusp of 'too high' of a PPI for normal use in my opinion due to scaling and text size issues).
Please don’t make the same mistake as i did. Anyone reading this who is thinking to get this monitor to use on a console (Ps5 or Xbox) DONT. It will be so stretched and there is no way to fix unless you are happy to play with black bars.
Thanks for showing size of the curve with fists. I searched everything to find how much exactly is g9 curved and that shows me this is not monitor for me. 1800r is acceptable, 1500r is too curved but still ok, and 1000r like on g9 👎
probably a common question but for games where i cant hit my fps target and i want to run 2560x1440 can i run this in the middle with black bars but with the full 240hz?

I'm quite sure you heard about all the problems people are having with this monitor? What can you say about them? Because if I pay 1,4k € for a monitor I don't won't it to feel rushed with technical problems :/
I have two 1080p 24" monitors on my desk (horizontal) but all the ultra wide monitors I can find seem to be 27" equivalent including the super ultra wide monitors. I'm perfectly happy with the size so I'm scared the 27" equivalent will be way to big. I wish they would just use the vertical height as the number so that I wouldn't have to say equivalent. Some monitors don't even tell you the equivalent size but if they just used the vertical height then it would be the same regardless of aspect ratio.
