Super unleaded v E10 petrol part I. Vauxhall Omega 2.5 V6 430 mile run to London on Tesco 99 octane

This video details a run we make often to Greater London for work. We have decided to see if there is any difference in economy between super unleaded and the much maligned E10, using the not exactly economical Omega 2.5 V6 manual estate.

Such a satisfying video, i know some people hate motorways, but for me there's nothing like a long brisk motorway cruise at night, all the switches illuminated and you can listen to some good tunes, or just drive in silence

£1.00 a litre £4.55 a gallon for normal unleaded in march 2020 in the first lockdown in grimsby dougie. Now £1.45 a litre £6.60 a gallon in dec 2021 for normal unleaded in grimsby. An increase of £2 a gallon in well under 2 years. Top video dougie really enjoyed that.

My 3.2 V6 auto Omega also does around 420 a tank on motorway as well! On my regular runs up and down to various locations in Scotland from Warwick I always try and drive at the quietest times and pretty much do the whole journey on cruise control. Driving it around normal roads sees that drop by 100 miles range!

It's annoying that the 3.0/3.2 doesn't use any more fuel than the 2.5. I do have a 3.0 sitting in the garage. An extra 40hp would be nice. I'd like longer gears too though.
@VXLV6
@VXLV6 2 года назад
@@OnceDrivenForeverSmitten Had a 2.6 Omega with G Cams for a short time but it wasn't a patch on a 3.2. Made all the right noises but a 3.2 has far more torque which is what a 1.7 tonne RWD barge needs. Had seven Omega's over the last 15 years, still have three but about to retire one with 250K on the clock. Fantastic motorway munching cars sadly never replaced with anything worthy by GM, looking highly likely that the only viable car (for me) that I can replace them with is a 530D

I used to do about 40k miles a year when I was working, my job took me anywhere from Inverness down Plymouth and all points in between. I used to cover most of these miles at early o’clock or daft o’clock, and some through the night like your trip Dougie. It resonated with me, chunnerin to yourself about other drivers hogging lanes, passing you and slowing down, they are all out there! A great piece of documentary👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😎

None of the speed cameras on the motorways are there for safety reasons. They are all there to gain revenue. The longer they can drag out roadworks, the more revenue is gained from average speed cameras.

Mind you, I would never put that E10 shite in, it simply wouldn't run very well at all. I was away in Ireland for work this last week, travelled all the way from Newcastle to Cairnryan for the Ferry last Friday to be only turned away due to the storm, so drove from Cairnryan to Liverpool to catch the overnight ship - Stopped at Tebay services on the M6 south in Cumbria, had to fill up, the cheeky bastards wanted £1.78 per litre! I’ve got a Rover 75 2.5 V6 auto. Since E10 was released I’ve been running it full time of a combination of E5 Tesco Momentum, Shell V-Power & BP Ultimate. I can’t say I’ve noticed much if any difference in performance or fuel economy over the 95 octane fuels, V-Power gives me about 1mpg extra but costs a lot more, Tesco & BP negligible. I’ve put E10 for the first time this week & so far it’s driving no different to normal. On long runs I get about 39mpg or 420-450 miles out of a 64ltr tank & average about 30mpg or 350 miles mixed use driving. I love old 1990’s V6 auto every man luxury cars like Rovers 75’s, Ford Scorpios & Vauxhall Omegas which offer cheap luxo-barge comfort with ultra smooth long distance driving.

That's utterly decent. To give something to compare it, mine is a 1995 sedan with the 2L 8 valve motor, and the economy is probably in that range. And it's a 5 speed manual. However, there are not so many motorways in Romania, and on the motorway I cruise at 83-86mph (135-140kph) with the car usually full ~ 4 passengers and some luggage in the boot. On regular roads, it is virtually impossible to cruise due to cornering and how others drive. It's a different engine but it also seems to have the same MPG regardless of what you do to it. One other difference : I use 95 octane petrol with 5% biofuel (we're not that "hit" by E10)

Agree smart motorways speed limits normally don't reflect the situation and statistically much more deaths from the omition of the lay-by. Highwwys agency just run advertising campaigns rather than admit they're dangerous. As for the private toll road, if one had the money, it would be interesting to take the government to court over the legality of there claimed duristriction.

I remember going up the M1 around Milton Keynes / Northampton a while ago when they'd upped it from 50 to 60 in the roadworks. Makes a massive difference as everybody doesn't bunch up. You get people that drive at 45 in a 50, so at least while they're doing 55 in a 60 they're easier to overtake as you don't lose as much speed either. The M11 is now 60 north of Harlow and that's great in a lorry as it doesn't affect anything. What's your verdict on the truckstop at Ashford then? I had wanted to visit it on Saturday but ended up working until the afternoon (was hoping for a morning finish) and then thought "why am I visiting a truckstop when I'm not at work" 🤣 Safe travels as always

Revelation added water in your oil due to vapors so servicing becomes MORE ESSENTIAL!!!......FU*KING GREAT GUYS!. Even with diagnostic software the engine management light would not stay off mpg was and is still terrible at 24mpg....BUT after only one run out through Loch Lomond (130 miles) the light is still off it never sounded so good and smooth power good but mpg up too 27.4! so you think you getting more but you are not cause the cheap diluted fuel uses more and has more consequences when neglected the 99 ron and above will help even when mixed half and half! I hope this helps someone cheers.

@@OnceDrivenForeverSmitten that makes sense actually 👍🏻. It could well be that. I remember my 1988 Senator, with the 4 speed auto was extremely low revving on the motorway too. It’ll be interesting to find out the reasons for it wouldn’t it. And I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets frustrated with lane hoggers 😂😂

Before E10 my Mrs use to just put cheap supermarket e5 in her punto. Since e10 came out ive told her to use e5 premium from BP. Bloody hell the difference in how the car drives is brilliant. For a 1.2 8v 65bhp its loving the premium fuel. I use to take the piss on how slow it was, but using the premium fuel has made a difference. Plus shes getting an extra 5mpg now.

Toyota Avensis 2005/2006, 1.8 VVTi petrol engine, 28 mpg on E10, back to normal mpg of 38/39 on super unleaded. I haven’t tried it yet but my workmate who has the exact same car said it’s “absolutely brilliant”. So I’m currently running my tank down to get rid of that E10 crap, and I’ll fill up with super

My mk5 Golf tdi bluemotion will do 800 miles on a tank if sitting at 70mph. Not as class as your Omega v6 (which is beautiful btw) but does me good on a long journey 👍

My MK4 diesel estate will do over 700 if driven carefully with a 55litre tank. With the way I usually drive it I tend to get about 550. Used to regularly get over 650. Goes to pot around town, about 400-450 to a tank. Unsure what to do with it long term with all the new ULEZ zones everywhere...

How much is the tesco 99 octane petrograd litre ⛽
@christineayres7199
@christineayres7199 2 года назад
Definitely 99 octane every time for my old Colt as it coughs and splutters on E10 and MPG is less even though E10 is cheaper ? so yeah E10 is shite to cut a long story short lol

Speed makes a huge difference to fuel economy, you should try a scientific trial, 50 miles should be enough, and 62 mph (coach speed) is a good compromise.

I did run to Harrogate and back in October and sat about 65 on way back instead of 75 and it used the same amount of fuel....somehow

I commented on a picture you posted about this the other day, not sure if you saw it or not. Me and my work mate both have a 05/06 Toyota Avensis with the 1.8 VVTi petrol engines, we noticed that they are getting 28/29 mpg on E10, which is awfully low for these engines, they were getting around 38/39 mpg before hand, I didn’t even notice the drop until my work mate told me he’d been watching the on board computer, so I tried mine, sure enough I was getting low figures of 28/29 mpg like he was, so he ran his tank down and filled up with super, literally straight away after he drove away from the petrol station, it shot up to 38/39mpg, so it just shows E10 is very inefficient. I’m running down my tank of E10 now, then I’ll try super aswell. Does anyone know if running super in a car designed for normal 95 octane is going to cause any damage to the internals of the engine? Or wear it out quicker? I don’t think so, but just asking the question?

Got it with 6000 on the clock, now just over 30000. It wouldn't bother me if it had 230,000 on it, all comes down to maintenance and knowing the car.

Your car shouldn’t take e10 fuel probs why your fuel economy was crap it to old the vehicle for newer fuel why you should stick to super unleaded
