As a casual shooter of mostly Canon DSLRs, I really like lenses that can be used on my cameras, don't cost a lot, and produce good enough results for my so-called needs. That's one of the reasons I've been watching this channel a lot.

I complete agree with you on the post-processing. I also like to shoot JPG and make no edits at all. It makes it that much more satisfying to get that perfect shot knowing that is has not been augmented in any way.

Nice review of a curious lens. You put everything in perspective, good, bad and in between. I may have to keep my eye out for one. Thanks!

I have one of these tucked away somewhere that I got with a lot of old kit a few years back and have never used it. Now is the time to stick it on my A7. Thanks Nigel.

Zen something i realised is that you are true, there are so many others wanting to make money from novice modern DSLR's but you're structure it mostly on lenses, for us who are your same generation, and it's all about the lens ! Thankyou i

I have a Sirius 28/2.8 I bought yonks back for my OM-1. It's an ok snapshot lens and in the right conditions can actually be fine. It was one of the raft of 28/2.8s that were made in the 70s by just about every maker, big and small. Nothing exceptional, just workmanlike. Not awful, either. In later years I dragged it back out and stuck it on a Canon 10D, where it acquitted itself quite well.

I believe I had the same lens - Samyang. Sold it, I got mine in the early 90's , wish I still had it

Wow Nigel, I have a Sirius zoom (Pentax k fit) which I bought for the princely sum of 12 pounds, in mint condition, without getting it out and checking, I think it's a 70mm to 210mm. It too is heavy, but I have to say this lens gives good clear shots. I use the lens on a Centon K100. I'm not sure why I bought it, but I'm perfectly happy with it. I think this is the first time you've reviewed this brand. Thanks again Nigel. Regards Rob.

Thanks for the review. Just bought one for £10 including delivery. I'll look forward to playing with it and can't go wrong at that price, if it's no good I'll pop it into the charity shop.

as for why they didn't make it f/2.8, you were right! It would be much heavier for a larger aperture. The Nikon AF-D 17-35mm f/2.8, as a f/2.8, feels like a ton. It's that heavy!

I think I have the same lens, in Nikon mount, but with the Vitamin brand name. Good lens.

I owned one 30 years ago , optics were OK , low on contrast , I did notice it was about two thirds of a stop slower than stated , so F5 - F5.6 was nearer the mark .

Hmm, I’m not convinced it’s either great or little but thanks for the review. I love your test photos 👏

I think the typical "use case" (stupid phrase!) for this lens is landscape, often on a tripod, where you could easily stop it down and use low ISO, and also control flare. Not really ideal for street photography, although a significantly faster prime somewhere within this zoom's focal length range absolutely would be.

Quick question 🙋 about a year or two ago you did a review on some lenses and you mentioned a lens that would be great for product photography. Possibly a M42 lens. Do you know what lens that would be? I know it doesn’t have any to do with this video but I figured I’d jump in and ask. Thanks for all the great videos. I purchased many a great Lens from your recommendations.

I'm just wondering if you might review the Nikon 20mm D lens? It can be interesting on APSC although it's very wide on full frame. It's good adapted because of the aperture ring.

Can you put a link to the lens? I can't find it on the Sirius website.
