Wow. It is so refreshing to hear a professional photographer compare the point and shoot super zoom camera segment against the high end camera segment and reveal the the picture quality of both segments is pretty close given lighting that favors the bridge segment. Thank you. Personally, I am not and never will be a professional photographer, but I am a happy hobbyist who enjoys taking pictures of family gatherings, vacations, birds, landscapes and weird things I see. Just trying to educate myself while waiting for delivery of my Canon SX70HS and saw your video. I'm so glad I watched it and am also now subscribed to your channel. Thanks again.

LOVE my Canon SX70 and you will too! Zoom is best used at 65x, with good quality. Any higher and it isn't as sharp, but it can be helped with a photo editor etc. The SX70 is easy to use. Not so great in low light situations, but it's not the end of the world...😁 Again, a good photo editor helps👍

I am an amateur as well. NO WAY can I afford the high end lenses. I have a DSLR .. with standard lenses. Someday, I might be able to get a more expensive lens. Just one though...😂 But, my SX70 ROCKS, so it's ALL good!😊

This is quite a sound review! And you using the M200 to adapt telephoto lenses is something a real-life photographer could do without breaking the bank. Also you kept it fair and did not bashed the point a shoots, of course everybody know about low light problems and small sensors, but nobody would buy a 2/3 inch sensor camera for low light photos hehe. What we care about in these cases is the zoom and that is precisely what you did here. Thank you!

Thanks. I took digital photography seriously using a Canon Bridge SX530HS. I enjoyed shooting with it and I learned a lot. Now I am using Canon APSC DSLR cameras. I think a lot of people are loosing interest with photography, many are not really learning with the gears they have. The reason why so much negative about sensor sizes and more... I have a Galaxy, smartphones are convinient and are getting better with computational photography. There are crazy features (pro) in smartphones as well. Most people are just taking selfies and not really enjoying smartphone photography as well... Pretty sure poeple who love using Digital Cameras are more eager to use pro features in their smartphones. I would like to see a such comparaison between: - FZ1000 II, V-Lux 5, G3 X, RX10 IV, FZ2500/2000 - RX100 VII, G5 X II, G7X III, C-Lux, Lumix DC-ZS200/ZS220/TZ200/TZ220, Lumix DMC-LX10/15 Thanks

Great video, I love that you were not bias to the larger senser because you spent more on those cameras. You explain how you can get great image quality from the bridge cameras similar to the larger sensors as long as iso is down and lighting is good which I have found is spot on! I have the P1000 and you just have to implement some techniques to get the sharpest photos, like check the forcast and go out when cloud clears, keep your back facing the sun and wait for bird to crawl up branch and take the photo when it hits sun light. On overcast days I can still get bird photos which might be good in a non photographers point of view but they just won't have that jaw dropping or award wining quality and will look terrible if cropped.

Thanks for a great video! You did what no-one else has done, by comparing images at the same focal length! I'm an ex wildlife photographer from the film era. My wife and I are full time working musicians, guitar and jewelry makers. When COVID hit, we were doing a month as campground hosts at a Northern Ca campground at a lake, and decided to stay on for 8 months. As you might imagine, I HAD to get a camera (Jill is very happy and successful using her iPhone 11). After some study, I got a Lumix FZ80, and am now looking at the P1000. I was wanting to see comparisons at equal focal lengths of the different bridge camera's. I wasn't interested in comparing the P1000 at 3000mm (eq) vs P950 at 2000mm (eq), etc, so THANKS!!!!

@@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE Yep, we did indeed get loads of great pics!! The FZ80 is a great camera, but would be great to have the extra reach, and the manual focus ring alone on the P1000 is a deal maker. I'm not expecting the P1000 to be sharp all the way out, but nice that it's there. I'd probably be ok with the P950, but there are a couple of features that the P1000 has that, well, you know!

Thanks for this video, I have been looking at so many to see if I should upgrade my SX70 and have got quite wrapped up in all the technical specs and reasons why you might want to upgrade . My wife often gets better photographs than me on her tiny point and shoot , because she composes and frames the shots better and has an eye for subjects that are really interesting. Some thing I will now go back to improving myself! The quality of the tiny point and shoot still blows me away, but as you say, in good conditions. Some things that really matter to me when I am walking miles to photograph birds are camera lightness and high zoom for the many shy birds that I just can't get close to. I will upgrade for sure if I can get faster focus and ability to quickly lock on to moving birds. Sony RX10 iv has that but only 25x zoom, I'm hoping the longer zooms might add it in the next upgrade - you never know :)

Amazing video. I own the sx70 hs for almost 3 years. But i want more zoom and considering p950 or p1000. But after seeing this video i will stick with sx70 hs until next gen of bridge camera released. P950 and p1000 have better images quality because of bigger zoom capability, but i cant justify the size and weight increase. Too bulky and image quality increases are just too minor to be noticable. Also, it's still suck in low light. Better wait for next gen bridge camera.

Nice review but still up in the air.... I have a Sony HX300V I got for moon and plane trail shots but over the years it has been in for repairs for the lens error E62:10 where the cable harness to the stabilizers give out after a year or two, has been in several times, glad I had Mack Extended warranty, last October the Mode dial went out and paid out of pocket to have it replaced hoping to buy me some more time on finding a replacement. On 1/1/21 the lens error came back, can still kind of use the camera and get moon shots on a tripod if not windy. So the past few years have been looking for a replacement and was excited about the P1000 but then decided to hold off...... In the past few months I picked up a Nikon D500 at the pawn shop, very low shutter count along with some lenses the person had also pawned. So debating on the Sigma 150-600 but not sure how close it will get me to the moon compared the Sony HX300V with it's 50X zoom. I also have a Nikon D60, d70 I had bought used and a D5100 I use more often along with some others I picked up used.......... Money is tight so debating on another bridge camera (Would like to have tilt screen, panoramic) Looked at the Sony HX400V but it has the same lens issue, mine was easy to use and in live view I could see the changes I was making... and or if the Sigma 150-600 would be better since the D500 has the larger sensor... After tax and getting a 5 year drop & spills extended warranty through Adorama that adds almost another $200...... Sorry for the long message.....

I own the SX60hs and its given me excellent results in a very light-weight package but, as you say, having the right light makes a big difference with the smaller super-zoom cameras. The new EVF for the SX70 is a much appreciated improvement. I nearly got a 2nd hand sigma 150-600, luckily i tested it at the seller before buying it.... not really sharp this lens! even when you hit the focus perfect, it is just not good and you cant crop much if at all. I got for a little more money a 2nd hand RF 800 F11 later... so much better this lens... 1) your hands dont fall off, the sigma is pretty heavy, but thats normal for a 150-600 Zoom with a 6,3 aperture at the tele end. 2) sharpness! its amazing how sharp the RF 800 is, even usable for astrophotography on a proper equatorial mount! 3) Autofocus... in wildlife i have to rely on autofocus a lot!

@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE 2 года назад
Overall I think the P1000 can give a little better image quality due to at lesser zooms you have a wider aperture which gives the image more background blur. You also have 2500mm which might also with compression of the lens give a better background blur. At 2000mm it is very close to each other more so other things come into play like weight, size, zoom compression that is more important. The Image quality again is so close I would not be able to notice the difference. At 2000mm differences might be in variations of the cameras. Both can do great but choose the camera that fits your lifestyle that be the best bet.

It's a very interesting comparison, but there are a number of questions about it. Were these shots taken RAW or JPEG? (in which case we are comparing JPEG engines as well). Were the crops (of shorter FLs) of such an extent that the quality of the images is limited by the number of pixels in the image? What is the 2x converter used on the 100-400 and 100-300? I assume you mean the in camera digital zoom (as there is not an external converter for these lenses). That is only available in JPEG so I assume the whole test is done in JPEG. That does not totally invalidate it but substantially reduces its value. My experience of the 2x digital crop in Olympus cameras is that it is better to do the crop on PP. I don't wish to sound negative, it is a very useful test of real significance to all of us (perhaps bad news for the Mirrorless and DSLR makers). I have P950 (just acquired) and EM1ll with 100-400 so will be doing the same tests myself. I bought the P950 for wildlife shots, cropping shorter lenses just doesn't work beyond a point.
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE 3 года назад
Tom, it is only 1 small test in a huge degree of other tests that can be done. You are correct just jpeg, more crops done on the lenses with the shorter zooms but detail wise they held up surprisingly well. It will have to be up to the viewer if they see large differences. I did mention that we cropped in alot more on some images more than others. Thus basically see yourself with these cameras in a fixed position max zoom best light lowest iso what they can pull off and how they compare. If it was shot 1 hour later we would have different results for sure as the low light performance of the other cameras would take over. I took into consideration the average user not really shooting raw. I hope this helps, not an end all be all test but shows these cameras are more similar than they are different in ideal conditions. Basically do not go throwing away your camera thinking the next camera is going to save your photography.

They are roughly abou the same. Thou the a1000 has a medium speed photography which the P1000 lacks. Basically meaning, s\low, med, fast, where the p1000 for some reason only has low and high. So when shooting continuously you get a longer buffer run with some decent speed. Low continuously shooting is really slow, medium is nice and adequate. I find high continuously shooting too fast and you run out of buffer speed and the camera locks up. Hope this helps !

Hi! Great video! - as always! I have a random question... I’am a hunter and have never owned a “god” camera before. I’m looking to get a camera that I can use to inventory different deers and so on. Up to max 350 - 400 meterS. I don’t now if I should get the Nikon p1000 or the p950. I have seen the p1000 live and it’s big...😂 Do you think it’s worth buying the p1000 before the p950 if I’m not going to take pictures further out then 350 -400 meters ? I’m a little concerned that the p1000 is going to be a bit to big and clumsy but at the same time the p950 is not exactly small... Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you from Sweden 👍
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE 3 года назад
Gustav thanks for the kind words. So it is a tough question but both should work well. If you are carrying extra gear with you then the P1000 will make it all a bit heavier. It depends on how much you will be hiking and traveling around. One thing to take consideration is can you protect your camera well since both are kind of fragile and you need to make sure they do not bang on rocks or other trees ect? The more extreme the hiking, the lighter the camera and gear I take. Also remember 350 meters your image quality will suffer due to air quality, heat waves dust ect. For me I think if it is hiking long distances 3 miles or more, I would go with the P950 as it has extreme range yet alot smaller even thou you mentioned it is not small. The other option is the SX70 which is way smaller and built better. I am thinking about doing another comparison video on this as well. I am surprised that when you start cropping how well it holds up to the nikons, thus with Topas giabit filter your cropping would not even be noticed. I hope this helps.

@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE 3 года назад
So many factors. I will say that this last video surprised me on the results. Yes the canon's seem to have more noise on the jpeg at higher ISO. Depends on your use, will you need raw, will you need a slightly lower light noise ratio ?? The differences are the same at lower ISO and only slightly better at higher ISO in favor of raw and the A1000, evf ect. So if I already had the camera, to me it would not be worth the upgrade and hassle. The SX740 focuses much faster so you are going to give some to get some advantages. If you can swing a larger camera the SX70, which I will probably do a review in a few weeks is significantly smaller than the P950 which takes the place of the A1000 and SX740 if you ask me. You loose the pocket size camera but gain raw, an evf, more zoom ect. I am really hesitant to suggest someone go out and buy another camera unless it is night and day difference which to me it is not. The suggestion of the a1000 vs sx740 is if you do not own either of them. Hope you understand because most people will probably not notice that much difference. Take care Robert and thanks for contributing.

The Sony RX10M4 is a top-class camera, I don't understand why you didn't test it with it. Can zoom from 24mm f2.8 to 600mm f4.0. What many do not know is that this camera can also zoom optically up to 1200 mm with very good quality, but only jpg. Digitally, the rx10m4 can zoom up to 1800mm, but then you clearly see a quality loss. The Sony costs something, but you also get something. The sony has a very good (by far the best of the moment) 1 inch sensor and a very good and sharp zeis lens. I have had many super zoom cameras, as well as still 1.5 x crop bodies and lenses. The camera I use most for birds is the Sony rx10m4.

@@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE I agree it's in kind of category of itself. But it's also really worth to get it or at least to test it. I have it few months now and I still don't use all features what it offers. It's really fast, autofocus is amazing, I started to record also some HFR videos. It's just that I would love to have more custom buttons or memory recall settings, so I wouldn't need to change some stuff in menus every time when I want to go to continuous shooting (I like it more than sport scene) or for night photos, etc. and I wish that stabilizer would be better too. I would also correct the above comment from Theo GT - optical zoom goes only to 600 mm, but there is "Clear Image Zoom" which is additional 2x digital zoom with some software algorithm to make lines sharper, so it's not as usual digital zoom, but it's not optical zoom either. And normal digital zoom goes up to 4x, so that would make then 2400 mm and not 1800 mm, but this digital zoom is practically useless, because you can make it later on PC (resample to higher resolution), but when you take photo it's still better to get more into the frame and with more light and easier aiming, than dealing with "longer lens", which actually go into digital zoom. OK, that would be just few words from me. ;) Thank you for reading.

No argument on the great image quality! For me, and of course, this is a personal preference thing, that Sony menu system is a monster. It seems more complicated than is necessary for a bridge camera. When you're paying that much more for all those features, you'd like to be able to get out of auto...it's no fun anymore when your camera stresses you out. @@shaolin95 That is good to hear. At least I am not the only one. I am also a RU-vidr with over 400 videos under my belt and as Stafford mentioned in his response to me, what we see on RU-vid is not what the editor sees in the raw footage. RU-vid compresses the snot out of the videos we upload, and not all videos have the same encoding and compress the same. There really is no standard in the video world. This is why I asked if anyone else was seeing the difference that I was seeing. I have had great-looking videos when I was viewing the raw footage, but looked like they were shot on a cheap flip phone after they were uploaded to RU-vid. One of the reasons for this is that RU-vid uses two different encoding codecs to render videos; AVC1 and VP09. VP09 is a much higher quality codec that RU-vid reserves for 4K videos, professional movies, and RU-vid channels with over a million subscribers. This is one reason videos from the big-name YT channels always look crisper. This video here was rendered using the AVC1 codec. You can see this by right-clicking on the video and selecting Stats for Nerds from the list. Now go over to one of my 4K videos ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Id1TGNJsVGU.html ) and you will see that it was processed using the vp09 codec. This is because the avc1 codec cannot process 4K videos so RU-vid is forced to use the better codec to process 4K videos. This video here would have been much closer to original quality had Stafford uploaded it in 4K quality. If you upload in 4K RU-vid is forced to use the vp09 codec on all versions of the video, So even the 1080 HD video will much better because it was processed using the vp09 codec.
