I got mine Tuesday and I gotta say I love it more than I anticipated. That it can hold all 10 ThunderCats, albeit 4 have to stand, is just mind-boggling compared to the vintage's measly 2. I still feel it's a tad bit too spendy but not enough to say I'm upset I spent it. Now I just hope everybody that ordered the Turtle Van gets the same happy experience I had getting this.
I got mine in from Entertainment Earth and was impressed immediately. This is an extremely well made vehicle and could not be happier with it. I don't have many Thundercats so I'm using this mainly for Masterverse figures, which fit them perfectly.
An idea for a Hatter Thundertank song parody: "Keep Rollin'" by Limp Bizkit. "Treads Not rollin' rollin' rollin' rollin' What?....Claws up now claws down!"
Great review! This thing looks GLORIOUS! I can't wait to get mine. What a time to be an 80s kid! In a short period of time, we got an updated GI Joe Skystriker and now this brand new, updated 7" scale Thundertank! Not to mention the fully Transformable Robosen Optimus Prime robot that was released earlier and all the other passion projects based on 80s cartoon properties. 30 years ago as a kid, I did not even dare think that toys of this quality based on my beloved cartoons would even be a thing in the future. Now if we just get word that NECA Turtle Van I pre-ordered, I will be a happy man. On a side note, I know Super7 really took on a big challenge producing this 13-pound Thundertank but the sculpt and proportions on it look so good and make me wonder what they could do with a 7" scale Silver Hawks Mirage or a 7" Thundercats Thunderstrike. After all, Lynx-O needs a place to put his Brailboard. Would a 7" scale Feliner be too much? Then again I thought a 7" scale Thundertank would be too much yet here it is. Again much props to Super7 because other companies would just release vehicles like this in a smaller scale and then call it a day. I would love to see how this Thundertank scales with the Classics Battle Ram and/or the Classics Wind Raider or the Classics Roton. That would be a dream crossover shot right there. Again, thanks for the review.
Dude! Where are you putting all of these monstor-sized toys?! Do you just pack them in your garage? With all of the kickstarters and Haslabs, who has the space? Proton pack. Razor Crest, Barge, Galactus, Hiss Tank, Eternia, etc. I think you need to do another episode about space danger and the challenges of collecting.
Kind of a shame on those peg holes for the canopies, the screws in the back, and those gaps showing the pins for the back hatch...especially with how adamant Brian Flynn is on not breaking up sculpts with articulation with the figures. I'd figure they would have given something to cover those up, whether it be a plate to cover the front, or just some plugs for the holes. Those gaps in the hinges could have been made on the inside to hide them better.
Looks awesome! I have most of the figures, but the price for this was a bit more than I was willing to spend. But if I was going to go for it, the treads are a deal breaker. I feel like for that price, they should have figured out a way for them to move. Maybe they could be just a hair elevated and a they are connected to a wheel on the bottom that makes the treads move when you roll it on the ground? Just something. Otherwise, I'll pass, but it does have a great look and part of me would still like to have this displayed with my figures.
This looks cool but I passed on this for the size and the price. The size is not bad, it just came down to collection space for me. The price made it very easy for me to pass on this. This does look like an awesome display piece for the die hard Thundercats fan. My Thundercats figures will just have to hangout at my Classics Castle Grayskull with He-man. Those nitpicky things would bother me though. On my Super 7 Snake Mountain, I wish Super 7 had just added side clips to hold the mountain together to make it more secure to carry but they chose to not add those even though the Mattel Classics Castle Grayskull has them.
I think folk forget that this isn’t a high end piece. It’s a toy. It’s just very limited which gives the allusion of a limited edition item. It is but it’s trying to be a mass produced item.
That "Andre" is an amazing Brad Garrett figure..... it's a tad weird to now want an Everyone Loves Raymond toy collection in wrestling bucks, right? Awesome thunder tank review! Not a Thundercats person, but happy a vehicle like that is out there for people that are.
Fantastic to see you so happy with this beautiful piece! 🎉❤ It’s not exactly the same giddy reaction you had to the Proton Pac, but it’s so much fun seeing you enjoying your collection!
You know the art on that box makes me think Mumm-Ra and the mutants are ranting at those jerks cruising in their decked out ride like some cool cats! 🤪
Super 7 swears they didn’t alter the original images of the first reveal of the final factory produced tank… it’s not that big. I’m glad cuz that photo was intimidating. I assumed it would be the size of the trilogy falcon going by the specs
That box art... What's going on is Mumm-Ra cast a spell that blinded the Thundercats. And so the Thundercats are blindly firing at the Ro-Bear Berbils while Mumm-Ra is standing by laughing at them.
Nice review! I have similar nitpicks, but can overlook them, as it is a really great display piece. I do wish the figures would sit better in the back and that the teeth (as well as the eyes) glowed. My Thundercats logo has the tiniest of paint imperfections, which seems to be my curse with this line lol. Thanks for taking the time to review this Jay!
Great video! The large gaps/holes on the sides at the base of the canopy where it meets the tank are also a bit frustrating, but I think this is the best Thundertank we're ever going to get and it's pretty amazing overall. I think the treads would work a lot better if they had more pronounced tread surface, they're very smooth and don't grip the ground well at all. Maybe a third party will make beefier replacement treads?
That is a good point. Ideally there would have been another wheel under the back end that made the treads turn when it rolled on the ground, that way there’d be no pressure on the treads and canisters themselves.
For $500 this should have been a perfect creation, no room for even minor complaints. As much as I love these new Tcats toys, this is just too much..asking $500 is ridiculous, and that too for a very basic looking toy. For goodness sake, even the treads don't turn and not one electronic feature...sighs. But I guess some diehard fans will get a kick out of this.
I regrettably had to cancel my order....I was so looking forward to it! However, at $500, it is just too expensive for something that I cannot even roll on the floor! This is a dealbreaker for me. Plus, the figures in the back cannot sit tight.
passenger seats should be movable and there is supposed to be an opening hatch at the back...magnets is the solution aside from putting pegs to secure the canopy too- coolreview
Bro my tank came with SOOO much packaging, yet my boxed dented, cracked, etc. So it obviously happened before packaging. The box quality is shit as well, you can tell the way it doesn't sit flat. The tank itself is awesome, minus the wheels... the threads don't move lol.
I love mine. I agree there could have been some things done better, but then again it could have been a lot worse 😂. It would be great if #Super7 would send everyone a modification kit to cover the peg holes and a small dolly to prop up the treads
As an animated model and smaller scale toy, the design of the Thundertank worked. But blown up in scale it comes across as a rather dull looking slab of gray plastic. Still, if it rocks your boat Super7 did good; just those tracks, they really should've been individual links, especially for the price and longevity concerns.
Love the scale! But I feel Super7 cheapened out on it.... seeing those controls that you really can't do anything with. The ugly piano hinges, shows the lack of imagination of the designer... plus the loss of the action feature...those useless threads... I mean for the price, I think Super 7 could have done better. But I still love the scale!
I agree. Reviewers have to stop saying "it doesn't really work so well, but that's ok I don't mind". The point is you paid for that as a whole package and it supposed to work.
That’s fair, it def was a selling point, and you could get it to “work”, but to me it’s not worth the wear and tear to do that. But as a reviewer I didn’t hold back from pointing out flaws.
You missed the most important issue of all. The tank treads are too low/short!!! They should be the same height or higher than the top of the tank and extend significantly beyond the back of the tank. When they raised the roof of the tank to fit the figures better they never raised the tank treads to match. You're supposed to be able to see the treads from a front view. This issue litterally ruins the entire tank once you get over the new toy excitement. Look at all the other tanks (icon heroes, ljn, hotwheels) and animation. 😡
I’m happy for the diehard Thundercats fans to finally be able to own this piece. Myself, I’m skipping it. I’m starting to get disenchanted with Super 7. First, this is overpriced. Second, the prominent peg holes, metal bar showing through the hinges, big screws holding it together (!), poor design of a character being able to stand at the cannon, no rolling bar at the backend- all deal breakers. Somewhat amateurish if you ask me. Again, if you’re a big fan of the series I get why’d you love this. For us fringe toy collectors of things like this there are too many negatives.
What? Threads don’t work? Seriously? Over 500 bucks for casted plastic? No way! That Optimus Prime was at least movable and transformed by itself. Overpriced, overrated Thunder-Tank.
If I'm going to spend $500 on something like this, I need it to be perfect so those nitpicks have killed it for me. I'd definitely want to display it without the cover and I really, really don't like those prominent pegholes. Which is a shame because the thundertank is my favourite vehicle ever
Not worth $500 dollars. Limited articulation in the figures legs, prevents proper sitting positions. Rear section seating is a joke and the clear dome cover barely offers clearance for Lion-O’s head when he’s in the driver’s seat. Some of the details are minimal and the treads not rolling when you push the vehicle, along with no light-up headlights, are reasons why this toy is not worth the $500 price tag.
Looks like Super7 took care of supplying BBTS with thundertanks before shipping to everyone who pre-ordered and paid up front for it from super7. It's disappointing and kinda bad business practice.
@GeekDadLife yup, the best I got from communicating via email with super7 was that they should have them in the warehouse at the end of the month and will ship out then.
Not to excuse this at all, but I don't believe it's intentional. I think that S7 didn't take the reins on distribution in a way to allow themselves priority. Whichever retailer happens to get their batch first and can process and ship quickly will get the product in customer hands first. It doesn't seem to me like S7 receives all of it to then distribute to the online retailers, and I think that's because they don't physically have the capacity to do so.
But now that I'm thinking of it, maybe this is by design to reduce cancelled orders from retailers that offer it. 🤔 ex: If I see a review and I don't like the finished product I can cancel my order before it ships.
@dkutch8776 that's a solid thought process, only problem is that retailers required a non-refundable down payment. When super7 put this out for pre-order, they said they wouldn't move forward with production unless they had a certain number of pre-orders. For those of us that pre-ordered with super7, there was no option of canceling and getting a refund. We were locked in as backing it. The only way super7 would refund our money was if the required number was reached to go to production.
This cost 450$ and you stated that you would have to get a third party to fill in holes, it has advertised glow in the dark lights that are not the same as the picture advertised, it came with no figures, and the treads are non functional. So how did they “nail it?” And how could the HasLab that had a total of 5 figures, led lights and 2 sets of functioning wheels and tons of blast effects be over priced? It cost 100$ less then the thunder tank. 450 vs 350? No added figures, lights, spending more money hoping a 3rd party can fix exposed holes ultimately adding to the overall price. Just doesn’t seem accurate to me for you to have made Hasbro out to be selfish greed toy makers when clearly 450$ is more and you obviously received less, and paid more.
Wait I think we’ve been clear we’re big fans of the hisstank. I forked over that money super fast lol or are you talking about the hellcharger? That never got it’s figures and I’m just not a big ghost rider fan. Maybe you should check the video where I gushed over the Haslab proton pack? Also the question mark after “nailed it?” Implies it’s not perfect, why else would I point out the flaws with it?
