Having spent most of his career painting others and cityscapes, Frank Auerbach turns the focus on himself in this superb show of twenty new self-portraits, mainly painted in, and after, the COVID pandemic. Come and join me as I explore this exhibition which has now closed.

They did have the exhibition catalouge at the gallery and might have some left over if you contact them. A fitting comparison and still hard to believe that the Charcoal Heads were painted just after WW2 and these in the COVID pandemic!

I love the drawings! The paintings don’t make sense close up, but in one of the last shots you made I caught one at a distance and it looked incredible. Thanks for sharing this mate!

Hello, Frank Auerbach is an important part of my art, I have been doing a series since 2008 and I just got to know Frank's painting two years ago and I realized that we speak the same pictorial language, thanks for showing us your latest works, for me it is a great reference that completes my work, greetings from Arequipa Peru

Wow - thank you so much for watching from Peru. It is interesting to hear that your work shares a similar language to Auerbach - a very distinct artistic language.. It was spine tingling to see such works being produced in his twilight years of a great artists career.

Hi George. This looks great, I can see why you were so excited! There are a couple of Auerbach paintings here in the Thyssen in Madrid and I was looking at one the other day (Head of J.Y.M), amazing stuff!

Glad you saw it - a very obsessive focus. Did you not find it intense? I enjoyed the subtle variations but one person I spoke a small bit to preferred the earlier work.

@@artgalleryexplorer Bit too repetitive, from the same angle too. Auerbach's paintings in the future will be for a small audience, unlike Freud and Bacon.
