This channel explores art exhibitions and galleries across London, the South East of England and beyond. As well as taking you inside galleries and giving you a sense of what an exhibition is like, I will give my honest opinion about whether an exhibition is worth visiting or not. The channel is committed to covering both major art institutions and smaller independent galleries, as well as both established stars of the art world and up-and-coming artists/lesser known names. I intend to celebrate the UK (and wider) art scene but also be a critical friend when needed. If you live outside of the UK and are interested in art, I also hope this channel can showcase the nature of the London and UK art scene.

Great content - amazing paintings, I like how you present it with music background (without dialogue) gives the viewer a chance to take in the paintings - which were great

Excellent presentation. Thoughtful, and well paced, no rush, plenty of time and space to take it all in .Nothing really wrong with some "underexposure". The true seekers will find their treasure wherever it is hidden. Love the Jazz trumpet. What pieces are you playing?

Thanks for this video. I visited this exhibition yesterday, I was not very familiar with his work, and I did not have time so I could not read the catalog. Came home to find this video, which is brilliant. I loved this show. Being a newcomer artist in London, this exhibition was really very inspiring, and I am really glad I know now more about the context of all works.

Hurray, at last I have found the place to comment. I always enjoy your visits, and have used them to see works again that I've already visited, as well as visiting some exhibitions because I have enjoyed what you've shown. Sometimes I use your blogs to write down artists and titles of works I've seen and enjoyed, but didn't want to stop looking, to use my note book! Love seeing you approaching the galleries too. Thank you!

Great video and especially helpful. Operational question: I'm an American. I visited Musee D'Orsay in May with the intention to see the Paris 1874 exhibition - and yes the crowds were torture all around. Long story short, I was unable to see the Paris 1874. Does anyone know if I can access the audio and sync it with photos a friend took and shared with me. I know it would be cumbersome. I would even purchase another ticket just to be able to download the audio. Is this doable? I've messaged the museum, but have not heard back after one month. Many thanks. Art Gallery Explorer, love your podcast. Most definitely will subscribe

As usual, I thought your video on this exhibition was excellent. Just a little point of interest there is currently at the Philip Mould Gallery in the West End a free exhibition of a number of paintings by Mary Beale. I found it really interesting and the gallery believe their building is cited where Mary Beale lived! Also in this same gallery is the new red portrait of King Charles by Jonathan Yeo which is certainly worth looking at.

Wonderful commentary! I saw this show when I was visiting from Sydney, Australia, back in early May. When I got to the end of the show I went back to the beginning to revisit the highlights, and like you, Gentileschi's, Self-Portrait was a favourite as was Maria Cosway's startling portrait of the The Duchess of Devonshire as Cynthia.

women are equally complicit in humanity's environmental assault on the planet through rampant consumption , i.e. fast fashion etc., we can no longer blame the patriarchy. however, universal societal equality remains elusive if not seemingly impossible, and violent subjugation of women continues. the conundrum of feminism.

To think about it, then artistic expression is deeply rooted in Moroccan and any berber nomadic culture. They have put their creativity into their ceramics and rugs since the dawn of times. DNA has done the rest 😉Artists are always searching and fighting the repressions to create and show their creativity freely. In my opinion artists can't be conservative...they have to be free, even from their religion. Sure there are religious artists but religion kind of sets boundaries to their creativity. Great exhibition!

Great film and chapeau to the Mixer DOrsay for genuinely interesting curation. I understand that there has been some debate at the Louvre about crowd volume and possibly charging separately for ticketed viewing of The Mona Lisa to bring down the congestion in the gallery. Perhaps this might be a start in addressing this across the sector?

What an amazing and revelatory collection. as an older person, I recall growing up (in a city on the edge of antipodean civilization) really believing only men were artists so never pursued my passion, that seemed to be an aberration I was cursed with.
@artgalleryexplorer
@artgalleryexplorer 21 день назад
I am really sorry to hear that. It makes me very sad to think about the potentially great artists we can never experience because they felt the same barriers that you did and didn't create. This exhibition reminded me, as well, that there was not one straight trajectory. I didn't get it across in the review but there were times in the past when it was easier than it became. BTW, I am looking forward to the first ever big show in the UK by Australian artist Emily Kam Kngwarray at Tate Modern next year (Summer 2025). Is she an artist you know much about? I need to get reading and researching because my knowledge is zero.

Great show to review 💥 Am I the only one who thinks so? The music that you score to the videos is flawless 99% of the time (I think you missed on the Ohlen vid)… it really engages me with the subjects you present. Panning the camera over lengthy wall text sort of works but only brilliant people read that fast. 😂 The Good, The Bad and The Beautiful 👌🍿

It's ridiculous- like you, I am used to busy crowds in London but this was just unpleasant. Way over sold. I went to the Brancusi show as well (vlog upcoming!) and that was also rammed to the point of craziness. It was only more bearable because the galleries at The Pompidou are bigger and his later works were also bigger so more room to enjoy them. Such a shame.
