Everytime I see something like this, I get scared about what's gonna happen in the future because I know what the government is like (absolutely ignorant), but am reassured that there are people who care deeply about the wellbeing of the environment and the people affected. I did my schooling at Patancheru.... their is a pond which flows side of my school... I can smell the chemicals during the times of evenings every day.. when the industries dump their polluted water into the pond... yes, I want to fight for this ... not just for me and my ppl but also for the good for my environment....

Vice needs to help escalate the issues. It's good to report the issue to the public for awareness but everyone here including the people affected are helpless. You should be more persistent with the issue, help escalate to the local government and major network, because there seems to be no happy ending for most of the reports you brought up. We usually just watch for educational purpose and then that's it.

The reason medicine isn't working on them is because they are drinking the water, the water has antibiotic; their body is building up an immune to antibiotic so when doctor give it to them the medicine doesn't work. does that make sense?

They tested the waste water for antibiotics and not the treated water, which is the big issue.

What is India doing to alleviate this problem?

Not only is this heartbreaking for the communities whose people are being sickened by the pollution, it's scary that the pollution could cause an illness that is caused by an antibiotic resistant pathogen to become a pandemic. Such a serious threat should inspire countries to adopt strict waste regulations, but that does not seem to be the case.. and this is not just India's problem, it is a global problem. The consumer countries of the drugs should be just as concerned as the producer countries of the drugs.

The problem is that no treatment of river water is being done, only effluents are being treated. However, a strong policy is needed for the treatment of both.
