+Lawrence Lo The paddle shift system can be installed as an upgrade to the existing gear lever system. It all connects to the sequential gear box. You can see the gear stick moving, because it still is connected to the gear box hydraulics. This is a mechanical connection. Paddle shift is an electronicly assisted system. When upgrading to paddle shift, some teams prefer to leave the gear stick in place, so when the paddle shift system fails (due to electronical failure), you can still shift gear using the stick. It's a backup system.
