Wet conditions greeted us for round 1. Heats format so it was a pure practice session, which was ideal to get the kart up to temperature and to get a feel for the conditions.
Practice P2 Lap (61.931) - 00:00
I was feeling reasonably good and was building confidence each lap. By the end of the session I was P2 with a time of 61.931
Heat 1 (P13 ~ P2) - 01:06
Starting towards the back in P13 for the first race of the season. In the early laps I took it easy, tried to stay out of trouble and waited for opportunities to make moves. An incident at T1 allowed me to gain several places and it also bought out a full course yellow. This carried on for a few laps and we all bunched up again whilst waiting for the green flag. After the green flag waved I kept on moving forwards and found myself in P2 at the chequered flag.
Heat 2 (P5 ~ P3) - 11:28
P5 starting position, again kept it clean and tidy in the opening laps and eventually found myself in P1. I had several laps in the lead but I was eventually caught and passed by Henry and Archie who were both flying! P3 finish and some more good points in the bag.
Final (P3 ~ P4) - 21:22
My average results so far for the round put me P3 on the grid for the final. It was going to be tough battling with those around me! After the opening laps I was sitting in P4 and fighting for P3. I did eventually get back up to P3, only for Charlie to come steaming through and disappear up the road. After that It was a fairly lonely run to the flag finishing P4 overall, rounding off a solid opening round.
