Hello there. I remember drivin these roads in 74 after the War...course they were just dirt back then. Oh yeah, just me, old sally (my 72 Chevrolet pickup), my dog Truman ridin shotgun, and mr Jackson Browne on the stereo. Those were the days....You remind me of those days Thomas. Your videos make me feel young again and that is the beauty of this website. T&A automotive is a terrific RU-vid channel. I commemorate you especially in this video. right from the beginning with the great build of anticipation of “hey guys, beautiful day out here.” You had me shakin in my boots from that beautiful scenery of those precious Green Mountains I once had the privilege of passing through but then WHAM....a nice profile shot of the Ram 1500 alongside a harmoniously delivered vocal intro to your beautiful audience. You are a true Ben and Jerry’s green delight to this platform sir. Y’all take care now. God Bless America.
Uou mentioned it can change your gears near the beginning....dont think you meant to say that. I wish today's tuners would allow you to adjust more parameters like they used to. Things like specific timing and fuel adjustments, fan changes, etc. Great video!
Love the channel! When you run the 87 tune, do you actually use 87 octane? Just wondering since the owner's manual in the truck recommends using 89 minimum. Do you instead run 89 with the 87 tune?
Thank you! I never have run anything above 87 in my truck nor have i ever had an issue with it. Yes the manual says to use 89 but there really isn't much of a difference until you get up to 91 and i am not paying for that on a regular basis hahah. I drive 150 miles a day to get to my job site.
@Madness Incorporated Since no one else responded yet, I bought mine with the tune installed and no the superchips does not have to stay connected. After installing tune you simply put it away in its bag holder in the glove box etc.
Can u reprogram for different rear end gears? I’ve got a new rear setup for my 2010 charger pursuit and need to be sure I can program it from 2.76 to the new 3.90 gear before I buy one
Great question. My quick answer would be yes thats possible. However don't quote me on that as i have not had this programer in a year or so since i traded in my truck. I would research this on the Superchips site or even give their customer service # a call.
When you got this did it automatically fit with your truck or did you have to get some kind of PCM replacement thingy? I have a 19’ and their website mentions needing to swap something called PCM but I’m hoping it’s just plug and play.
No it is, it works as a diagnostic code reader as well. It can also monitor live. yes when you order online search by vehicle because some newer models require an PCM swap (will come included) to allow it to work. When you plug it in for the first time it will let you select the specific make model and engine type. So this device can be transferred to new vehicle or sold. It can also be a updated from Superchips website.
I have a 2014 1500, it should work because when I pugged it in for the first time it asks you to select what vehicle type it was going in. There were options for other brands like Chevy and Ford if I remember correctly.
On 87 octane tune can i leave everything alone cause i just want to delete mds and thats it. like gear ratio and rpms i don't want to mess with that just delete mds
Yeah the 87 octane tune is pretty simple doesn’t change much just air to fuel and shift point which are for the better of your vehicle. Little more response and better milage. You can also shut off the MDS which is nice if you have an aftermarket exhaust.
@@GreenMountainProjects yea i installed last night runs good the only down side is my truck has the hemi tick with kind of scares me i guess i might take to a dodge dealer ship or to a mechanic shop to see if its anything serious.
that's one of the reasons i bought the tuner because when im coasting around 20 to 30 mph i heard a chatting tick noise so that's why i bought the tuner to turn off mds but still a tick and i heard its common for the 2009 tru 2012 dodge and the lifter could cause serious damage to the cam shaft.
I run the 87 Octane tune always. I get about 17-20mpg average driving 70mph highway, around town it’s about 15-16 mpg. This being said I do drive aggressively most of the time. I do have larger tires with a small lift and I live in VT so there are a lot of hills and mountains which make it burn more fuel. I don’t. Use the eco tune because I found with constantly driving over inclines it burns more bc it’s meant for coasting flat highways.
@@GreenMountainProjects I thing I will g with the same tuner my truck has a leveling kit 2.5” and 33 tires since I change the tire size I’m getting 13-14 mpg on city Thanks for the reply
Yes I just checked on the super chips website and they do In fact sell ones for that engine, they sell the one I have for $384 and two other programmers with display for $644 & $499
No it shouldn’t bc there is nothing permanent or no way of knowing it’s been installed unless you tell them. If your worried about it you can always plug it in and set it back to the original settings and it’s like it was never there.
@@GreenMountainProjectsa lot of modern vehicles store a data log of everything. A skilled tech will be able to tell a tune was installed due to the codes being thrown when installing it. The tuner clears the codes, but the PCM/ECU stores them. You can hide a tune from a dumb dealer, but a motivated one will be able to find it.
I've been looking into this and read that I need to have my pcm unlocked? on my 2021 ram. Is this true or can I just plug this in and follow the steps. Thank you
I hear tale that doing a tune on the hemi wears the cam prematurely ie flattens the cam lobs. Anybody know yes or no? I have an 08 I wanna tune but I'm on the fence after hearing this.
Yeah mines been in mine for over a year and no issues so far I think it’s pretty safe, maybe a lower grade tune company could have issues like that but super chips is one of the best and safest.
I just installed the superchipF5 on my 2013 Dodge Ram 2500. 5.7 Hemi I put the tow mode on. I do notice a difference but what do you think the horse power and torque is.
@@GreenMountainProjects Sounds good thank you! And while you're here. I Am already using a SpeedForm Throttle Controller. You think that could mess anything up since the tune affects the throttle as well?
@@JackListerI have never messaged around with the throne controllers but if it’s one of the ones that plugs right in to the wire coming off the gas pedal like a pedal commander it should be fine bc all that does it speed the response time of the signal not affect the amount of throttle.
This won't affect top speed since that is due to gearing. This affects how fast you get up to it. Also if your truck has a factory govenor you can disable it which would increase top speed.
@@GreenMountainProjects I like it I also put shorty headers wanted long tube but I let company talk me into shortys and cold air intake it definitely makes a difference
