Thanks! To be clear, patterns aren't UGens - this is sort of a main feature that distinguishes them from the demand classes. An advantage of demand UGens is that you can build them directly into a SynthDef, so there's a convenience factor. However, the pattern library is more extensive than the demand family, so patterns generally offer a lot more in terms of being able to express more complex algorithms. It all depends on your goals, really.
