Hello everyone.
I was in desperate need of an external canister filter for my recently acquired used 400 liter aquarium. The eheim pro 3 that came with it refused to cooperate. I am still troubleshooting its leaks and refusal to pump out water.
The SuperFish X-pro 2000 is fully supported by my LFS and there is a 3 year full service guarantee by the company. Is it true? Who knows?
I followed the set up guidelines set out by the Pondguru and his pimp my filter series. Thanks for that.
Bottom of canister = layer of ceramic rings
Bottom tray = coarse, medium, fine foams on top of plastic bio rings
Rest of the trays = kilos of garden store variety lava pebbles
Thinner tray = prefab carbon filtration
I probably should not have compressed the foams. I will correct that in a few months when I clean the filter.
I used panty hose to cover the intake basket because of the snails and potential future fry.
Should there be a coarse foam filter before the impeller? It would seem wise to do so in order to prevent debris from entering the impeller chamber.
It is silent, but makes a periodic noise in order to purge air from the system. I cannot pinpoint where the problem is.
The output flow rate is probably low because of the lava rocks and foams, and maybe the panty hose on the intake basket? Therefore, I am certainly not getting the hourly 5x the volume circulation rate that is recommended by most. I do not believe that any of my aquaria are meeting this criterion. Should I worry?
Three weeks of use:
I am still having problems with the output flow stopping. I can no longer use the spray bar because I cannot easily tell if there is water coming out. I pointed the output tube toward the side wall so I could observe the output water bounce off the wall. I will keep an eye on it.
Now that I primed the pump to restart the filter that stopped at some unknown point, the canister is making a buzzing sound. It was silent before. Hmmm.
