I got the single feed 3" unit and it's small but mighty so far. I limb everything before I remove it from the tree if possible. The crotches of the branches is the worst for this one but I started cutting them out with my sawsall and binning them for collection. It is more prep work but with 10 dead full grown hickory trees, 3 mulberry trees and an oak, I needed something 😅

I had a similar cused hipper a few years ago and it was more effort to feed the branches into the machine than it was worth, so I sold it.

I've never seen a chipper work unless its commercial. However i used the side mount hose and slowly fed the leaves in and that worked great. The top feed is stupid. The guard stops leaves completely. the hose attachment works great and the leaves are ground up to powder literally. It's the new year and i'm trying to get it started. I'm sure it will work.

I like it. I chopped a lot of cedar where are all curved branches. I did not push it to 3"s. I had plenty of work with just under 3". And honestly, they could have been 3 or very close. I also wish I got the different model without the shredder. The shut would have sent the chips to a better place higher up into a bin instead of so close to the ground. I got mine from Great Circle.

I have noticed the blades usually come fairly dull, sharpen first. Additionally, freshly cut oak is going to be one of the hardest wood you can send into one of these bad boys. Just my two cents.
@whodoneit218
@whodoneit218 9 месяцев назад
Like the first commenter said, you cant just throw the limbs in it! Look at the commecial units. Those actually have a feature that feeds the wood in a little at a time and stops feeding when the engine starts to bog down.

I prefer the old school wood chipper, load into truck bed and haul to large burn pile. lol unless your doing tree service/major landscaping, a chipper is a waste of time until large commercial size with power feeder. everything else is weak and hand fed, use a 2x4 or 4x4 as a push stick or something else that wont fit all the way down into the cutter head ;)
@TheDisgruntledMechanic

yeah that would help burn all these damn ticks hiding in the leaves around here!

Well I have sharpened axes but not that good at it. I do really like my Harbor Freight chain saw sharpener. For the $35 I spent when I bought it many many years ago it is well worth it! Stay safe! Oh and the 1st pull surprised me! Didn't expect it to spin quite that hard as you saw!

I was pushing oak through it so not sure about cherry. I did notice that it seems to run and chip better as it warms up. If you put something too big in and it stalls just clear the blockage and be sure to choke it when you try to restart it even when warm.

Based on the size of the limbs and branches you were trying to feed into the machine, you probably would have been better to go to a local equipment rental service and use the $600 + dollars to rent a heavy duty chipper, tow behind the truck, that would handle all that oversized brush you stacked up. Easier on the back and in one day it would be completed.
@TheDisgruntledMechanic
@TheDisgruntledMechanic 4 года назад
Yep you are correct, sir! When I did this many years ago I think that is exactly what I did!
@larrabeejl
@larrabeejl 3 года назад
Stop treating it like its a commercial chipper by throwing the big chunks in it. You're supposed to feed it not throw it. This is just a bad example of user error/equipment abuse.
@TheDisgruntledMechanic
@TheDisgruntledMechanic 3 года назад
If it is a BAD example of abuse it means it was done correctly. If it was a GOOD example of abuse then it would be being abused. You have abused the English langauage more than I abused the chipper! And I am glad to see the wood chipper police is alive and on duty!

As you said, you should have bought a wood chipper not a shredder. A wood chipper with a drum rather than a disc would have suited your needs better for limbs. You need to hold the limbs back a few seconds to allow spinning disc to get speed back up.

@josephfaraci7849 2 года назад
Your technique for the smaller machines is all wrong! you just don't jam it in there you have to slow feed it! you shouldn't allow that stuff just to build up in the chutes. You're just throwing it in there you have to place it in there, and slowly feed it in- I have a different Shredder than you and it only gave me problems on Hardwood- but it was able to get the job done with a little bogging down because I slow fed it
