You do know Vought wasn't trying to make him feel better, right? They were using him as a prop. If they cared, they could have told him off camera that his chosen hero was on assignment & unreachable (we know he's dead) but he would have loved to have met him. Then offered to do anything else for him. It could have been a fantastic feel-good moment for the cameras. But instead, they plowed ahead with another supe who they didn't even bother briefing on the situation.
