I think when he says “a human soul is worth more than 100 billion lives”, it’s because in many religions a human soul is considered eternal, and a normal human life expectancy is 76 years. So the exchange rate would be something like: 100,000,000 < ∞
Oh hey a recent reply I wanted to watch this video for over a week now and finally I have been able to. I first watched the Irredeemable story and I liked them both in their own ways
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s more of a “satire” of Shazam in its story about a kid becoming a superhero after a magical wish, but it does take elements from Superman. I’m glad I discovered your channel, way better than any of the other comic book explained channels
Glad I found your channel, thanks to Millar's "Big Game" and Nemesis. Your vids are entertaining and legitimately pulled me back into Millar's works. Keep up the good work, man! :)
I loved this story. It was just a regular demon who grants a wish for a soul story but man it was great. Heart touching. I thought the reporter was trash until what happened.
26:29 His wish was to be superior man. Which probably included having disasters to save people and feel like a hero. Things being wrapped up nice and easily just being part of being that character rather than actually being that easy. I think Ormon also misspeaks. Rather than saying he hasn't gained a soul in 500 years he probably meant a pure soul. He doesn't want the bullies' soul and he talks about how his kind are way too paranoid now and how a bucket of gold or a woman would have done it before. The whole conversion rate on soul to lives I feel like it might have to do with reincarnation? The soul is now gone from the cycle so it's like taking an infinite number of future lives away.
Regarding the soul to lives conversion... The way I see it is like this; A soul is eternal. Many cultures have interpretations of reincarnation, and almost all involve the soul living on beyond the physical form. So while you can end a hundred billion lives, those souls continue on. They may live again, or they may just join the afterlife/ collective "whatever". Each one is a unique and powerful soul. By relinquishing one, a human is handing over everlasting "life".
In response to the whole "Supervillain Poster" thing. I remember seeing various comedies in the 80's and 90's of people wearing T-shirts of the Joker or the Cobra Logo from GI:Joe. To me, It's no different than a Star Wars fan wearing a Darth Vader T-shirt.
Wow, this was really great Dannymalt! Superman is one of my favorite heroes, or is my favorite hero of all time, and it was amazing to see this comic pay tribute to the Christopher Reeve movie.
28:49 I mean, normally I'd say that I wouldn't give up my soul for any price, but if a Dannymalt in a space suit offered me infinite high-quality comic reviews, I'd be hard pressed to say no
It was a good short low key trip to Calgary. Main purpose of the trip was to see my Grandma who is getting up there in years, so most of it I just spent with her and other family I have out there.
So if Superior is set in the same universe in Wanted, Kick Ass, etc wouldn't the actor that played him be the real Superior after the Fraternity rule the world and made people forget superheroes existed?
So proud of you and tie journey Danny! This has been a comic I’ve been waiting for you to cover. Thank you for all the hard work you put in and the great content. So excited for this!
I like that series a lot too. It’s another one I want to do. Although from what I remember it declines in quality as you get further into it. But the first few volumes are really great cause of all the mystery elements.
Glad you are covering this one. I think this and Starlight are my favorite Mark Millar books by a fucking long shot. I like to think of Millar’s stuff as akin to The Fast and Furious movies in the sense that they are fun books with cool ideas that are easily digestable and aren’t too high concept or deep. Starlight and Superior aren’t “deep” or “high concept” per se, but they definitely stand out as two of the most heartfelt books Millar ever wrote, and where it actually seems like he had something he wanted to say. I’d also put Reborn and Huck up there, but I don’t think they end nearly as strong as the other two.
I know I couldn’t resist using the official Superman theme song tho. I think it will be okay tho, i had an earlier Superman video I put the song in and they never claimed it, so I think they don’t monitor that song. Worst case I reupload with another song replacing it.
Hey Danny, glad your grandma is doing,my NANNA(grandmother)passed away over 12yrs ago.Miss you NANNA-RIP.My grandmother was a minister and a christian who was very serious about serving theLord and Jesus Christ-I really admired her for that.Spend as much time with loved ones as POSSIBLE.Life is sooo precious and short.Dude I really like your channel, you do GOOD work.I bought the SUPERIOR series after its print run from HASTINGS video-ANYONE REMEMBER THEM??? Got the series for LEINIL FRANCIS YU's artwork, which is very good.Bought the issues for $1.00 each-not bad huh??Haven't read these issues in years tho.BUT,I liked your retelling and the artwork is even better than I remember.Look forward to more videos from ya partner(I LIVE IN TEXAS)PEACE.
Super dope panel for "Long Island Beach". Assuming that's Jones Beach on Long Island. Cuz there's a pretty famous Ice Cream shop there. Random, but def a dope little Easter egg.
Wow dude, I really wouldn't have expected this from Millar, nor did I think I would like this as much as I do. Amazon has to be working on this, easily a movie or a 4 part mini series. As long as they do 8 billion genies 1st! :p
This was so cute! I absolutely loved it! I expected Simon to not want to help Chris with his bullies cause "secret identity" and that'd lead to a fight between them, but it's so good that didn't happen and they remain freinds all the way through! :) The one thing I don't like is the amount of destruction in the final battle. That was like Man of Steel levels of buildings crumbling, a lot of people must have died unfortunately. I wouldn't really mind if Superior made more of an effort to maybe try not to cause destruction? But he just throws them into builidings and stuff that was weird. And can I just say how great it is that there were no sarcastic assholes in this story? Everybody is a kind, brave, awesome person. No Rick Sanchez, no Deadpool, no Joker. It's just a happy story.
Great video! Also this is one of the best comics made by Marvel! Maybe you could do the original Hellblazer comics? Or the Alan Moore Swamp Thing run? Or Fables? Or the Animal Man comics by Grant Morrison? Or Doom Patrol also by Grant Morrison? Or Astro City? Or the original The Dreaming series? Or Hitman from the '90? Or the Grant Morrison X-Men run? Or All-Star Western from The New 52? Or the Punisher run by Grant Ennis? Or Saga? Or the newest Lucifer run? Or the first Vigilante run? Or Wonder Woman by George Perez? Or The Flash by Geoff Johns? Or The Walking Dead?
Good work friend. I like channels that actually explore the books and not just the films. Which is funny (to me) because I've always seen Millers work as attempting to sell screenplays with illustrations. I can't say I'm a fan...But I respect his talents. Bonkers ideas and he writes douchebags like no other. I mean..He managed to make the Avengers quite unlikable even while they were saving the world. And I won't even go into his Authority run. Again though, good work.
25:13 kids have giant posters of Darth Vader, who is notorious for being actually much worse than most of Lex Luthor or Darkseid versions, literally blew up a planet and by the time of that comic already literally killed all the children in jedi temple. Personally. And what (Lex , () since he wasn't always "Lex" before Silver Age) Luthor or Darkseid did? Kill couple thousands at best, all mostly adults, and kids only died in collateral at best. Nowhere near entire planet. Although, ultimately any unjust and evil murder is bad so in any case, kids ALREADY have posters of Darth Vader and dress like him.
@@dannymalt have you considered "the invisibles"? Its a bit of an odd run, a little psychedelic, a little psychosexual... but after "the boys" I don't think it would be too much of an issue.m
@@dannymalt its from Grant Morrison. So, a real quick summery is; a secret society (the invisibles) of magicians work in the modern world to subvert the machinations of an evil cabal of politicians, police, businesses. There's time travel, homeless gurus, John Lennon (of The Beatles) being summoned as a god, 1960s spy parodies, fly demons... its a super weird and fun read.
Hey Danny, I haven’t been following your channel for a past few months or so. I remember you took a little hiatus after the whole Invincible debacle. Kirkman should cut you a check for all the publicity that you gave him and his character. Anyway I’m glad to see that you did not shut down your channel. As for the story? It kind of sucks! The only good thing about it is the penciling and the inking. I’m really not too crazy about those flat colors. The blending is almost nonexistent and the highlights are too high contrast.I’m gonna see if there’s anything else that you posted recently that I haven’t watched. Keep your head up dude!
Shoulda left Sharpie in the North Pole , but just for a bit , to ya know... freak him out and plan on coming back and returning him; However, it actually goes horribly wrong... and he is eatin' alive by a polar bear... The plot holes and predictability in the writing is a bit odd? I would love to see them turn it all upside down as a reveal for the true story? Or something...( like above? ) Madeline should have been a Angel for the twist Vs just a dumb immortal twist and starts a whole spiritual war ;)
Hey, Danny if you get time please, cover Brian K Vaughan's Ex-Machina it is a really good comics after Y- The Last Man this comic book is also popular and won a couple of award
It's a good story overall, it's a story of doing your part and hoping for the best despite the lot given to you. The Afghanistan war is viewed from the eyes of those who didn't understand what really happened IRL during those those times so it really would appear off.
I mean I think the entire montage of him doing things to "save the world" was over simplistic, but in a book with space monkey demons I don't think realism is really the aim.
Now you know Mark Millar did not want to start a geopolitical discourse lol, he just used it as a tool to scale Superior touching a ton of loves at once
not really weird for a kid to have a villains poster, tons of kids love Harley Quinn and The Joker, one of my 4 year old students dressed as Joker for Halloween lol also, i don't think you know the definition of a plot hole
28:00 Maybe this is a new program that Ormond is running. I mean, also in a world where there are no superheroes, a lot of people probably said no. Also, drugs must be really good in that world since seeing a monkey in a space suit may cause people to say 'na, that's some bullshit'.
A Lois Lane-pastishe rejecting to publish the truth after finding out and mourning of a fallen hero by nations across the world Definitely inspired SnyderVerse's Superman (collateral damage already was in Last Son by Donner and Johns before this comic was even written)
