► ABOUT THIS HIKE - Episode 1
In May 2024, myself and 5 childhood friends hiked 28 miles of the 310 mile Superior Hiking Trail through the course of 4 days, this long-distance trail is often considered the best backpacking/hiking the midwest has to offer.
Exploring Gooseberry Falls State Park - This popular North Shore park features spectacular waterfalls, scenic overlooks, a wonderful visitor center and superb trout fishing.
3 mile side hike to Oberg Mountain Lookout - High overlooks along Oberg give wonderful views of Lake Superior, Oberg Lake and Moose Mountain. Steep cliffs are at the top; use caution with small children. This trail is a spur trail off of the Superior Hiking Trail.
Immediately after Oberg Mountain the first camp a long the trip is East Rollins Creek Camp. It was our goal to make it to East Poplar Camp by night. With the extra 2 miles to Oberg lookout and a few wrong turns, the first day hike was just over 12 miles.
At the end of this episode we explored Mystery Mountain Camp, a small but really cool spot a long the Poplar River for group sizes of 1-4 people.
