Hands down best info on RU-vid period. Its like what haven't you covered? Watching your videos inspired me to learn about repairing transmissions. I was scared of them for most of my years being a mechanic. I was a good R&R tech with near 200% production rate with general repairs. However, I lacked transmission repair experience. You helped me grow as a Diagnostician. It opened up more opportunities. Thank you Hiram for all you do.
The good old saying of you get what you pay for rings true here. Obviously, if they didn't replace torque converter, flush cooler lines and transmission cooler you can fill up your rebuilt transmission with trash too. I don't know if I would build transmissions to let customers install it, because if they don't fix the issue on the vehicle that caused the failure they are right back.
hey bro im rebuilding a zf 8hp65 from a 2017 audi q7 quattro 3.0. i cant find any service info on proDemand. any idea where i can find the torque specifications. ps its my first trans rebuild. i found a clutch "c" pack burned. it only has 70k miles on the car.
Hi Hiram I'm about to build a 2002 4l60e I've researched as much as I can and made a list of components to purchase. I just wanted to find out if I missed any thing you would include when building a transmission? I have found your videos to be the best on youtube for the detail and information. Ok So I have on my list the overhaul kit with gaskets seals etc. raybestos red frictions and z-pak, steels. The kit comes with moulded pistons (but I'm not sure if they are the accumulator pistons but I've added a set of sonnax pinless accumulator pistons and 2 purple springs.) also kevlar band, clevite bushing, torrington bearing kit, 29 element hd sprag and a beast sun shell, I added the superior k070 and k0136, corvette servo, forward drum reinforcement kit, transgo 4l60e-hd reprogramming kit, transgo 46-plt-96 seperator plate and front and rear 5 pinion planetaries??
Forgot to mention I'll be taking it to a transmission specialist to build it for me but a lot of these parts aren't readily available in Australia and shipping from US is expensive as I pay shipping on each part from evil bay
You pretty much have everything covered. I would add a transmission cooler. Heat is the greatest and first enemy of transmission failure. Don't forget a torque converter. Good fluid as well. Dexron 6 would be okay unless you want to go with Penzoil or Royal Purple.
Yeah, that's what it looks like. Judging by the condition of the frictions. I never rerun a torque converter, I always install a new (rebuild) one on every unit I build. They accumulate a lot of trash in there plus you never know the condition of the friction lining. Which in this case it wasn't good.
