+rizzo92 for mixing 668b, they are the most neutral sounding ones, don't forget to give them some time to burn in because when they are new the highs are kinda messed up but after some burn in they go to their place

Hey there! well I honestly didnt do too much to test their durability however they didnt seem particularly cheap or flimsy. I'd say if you take decent care of them you should get a few years out of them.

NO, NO MORE QUESTIONS! just kidding. I think you'll find we rarely fail to reply. Try us. ok so as or EVO, I think at $40 or so bucks, you literally should buy both. College books are like $150 or so, and I promise you I never used mine and I came out just fine! Just use that money for headphones. But honestly, I LOVE all the ATH line, and the m20x is a great option, but the cable is super long and not replaceable. I have yet to try the other one you mentioned but I really do honestly think the EVO's are really freakin cool, especially for the price. The question is, do you want a really long cable thats fixed, or do you want really huge headphones that look like a spaceship aka the EVOs. I think they look awesome but they are huge. Those 2 things would make the call for me if it were my choice.

I'm not sure if you have made a decision yet but from what I have heard and seen from many reviews/comments, The Superlux HD 681 Evo is preferred for gaming over the HD668B so I would suggest those. I currently have a pair coming to me in the mail in a few days and being a gamer myself, I can tell you more.

They are pretty much good for gaming and music. They have good all around range with a bit of a heavy bass sound without making everything else muddy. However, I have had a bit of trouble with the headphones with the sound cutting out and stopping all together and seems I got a defective pair. Other than that though, I have used them for gaming and music and have been very satisfied with them and they are 100% worth it.

+shaolin95 The HD668b is better for gaming because it has a better soundstage. However, you can't go wrong with either of them. If you get the HD668b, then you would want to order velour pads separately so they can be more comfortable.

for what purpose... what kind of sound signature you prefer? Evo's are warmer and fun sounding hp's while HD668B's are more balanced and detailed hp's hence can sound somewhat boring with some type of music

I certainly think these are better than the M50x. Less hot up top, more even freq response, MUCH bigger soundstage, strong bass that goes down deep into the subbass and less artificial mids, no metallic characteristics in the sound. I have both and am amazed these aren't more popular considering how good they sound

I know you're skeptical, but trust me, I've heard and owned tons of headphones, changes 60 pairs just in the last 2 years, ranging from cheap 20 dollar ones to flagship 1500 dollar pairs. I've basically owned and sold or tested the entire line-up of Sennheiser, AKG, Beyerdynamic, from their cheapest, to their most expensive ones, and I still own cans like Beyerdynamic DT770Pro (both 80 and 250 ohm versions), DT880 600 ohm, DT990Pro 250ohm, flagship Tesla T1's, AKG K701's, Q701's, K550's, K612Pro's, Sennheiser HD202, HD212, HD419, HD438, HD380Pro, HD558's, HD650's, Ultrasone HFi2400, Denon AH-D600, AH-D340, Audio Technica ATH-M50, Focal Spirit Professional, NAD HP50, and so on, used with high end DAC's and headphone amplifiers that are basically overkill for most of my headphones other than the 1500 dollar Beyerdynamic T1's. On top of that I've tested and auditioned countless headphones from all price ranges, I like to say that I've heard or owned pretty much every headphone on the market that's worth hearing, and I think that's pretty accurate. So I have a pretty good perspective on what sounds good and what doesn't when it comes to headphones. And let me tell you, Superlux headphones are UNREAL when it comes to value for money. Honestly, it's unbelievable when you compare them to headphones that cost multiple times more, and you realize they sound as good or better. It's really a mindfuck when you think about it, because so many people (including me) spend so much money for headphones, while they can get the same sound for fraction of a price. Does that mean you can buy 30 dollar Superlux headphones that will sound better than 500 dollar, 1000 dollar or even more expensive headphones? NO. But it does mean that Superlux will sound as good or better than most 150 or even 200 popular professional headphones that are very respectable in the headphone world. Why is that possible? Well..if you actually go on the Superlux website and look at their product catalogues in PDF format, you will find that all of their headphone models are actually rip off's of various Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, AKG, Sony, Shure, etc. headphones. They even desctibe the sound of each headphone very precisely and show you comparisons of frequency response graphs to headphones that they've copied. What do I mean by that? Well, they actually take all the important parts of engineering, like plastic type thats used, headphone earcup enclosure design, driver design, the type of magnet used, etc. and they just copy it and make their own headphones the same way. They just change some minor things that don't affect sound, so that they can't be sued by original manufacturers for making the exact same product (like those chinese beats by dre companies do for example, who try and make a headphone that is 100% identical to original, which is illegal, but what superlux is doing isn't illegal, because they're not actually copying it, even though they are, if you get my point). They actually even use IDENTICAL drivers to some Sony headphones that cost 4-5 times more, because the driver is actually not manufactured by Sony, but by someone in China who makes drivers according to Sony's design, and then soll the driver to both Sony and anyone else who wants to buy it and pay for a licence... so you're actually getting an IDENTICAL headphone as far as the sound goes. They just change the outer design, colors, etc. For example, Superlux HD661 (30€) are IDENTICAL to Sony MDR-7506 (150€), they literally sound the same, and they meassure the same, some even say the 661 sound better, because they actually slightly improve on some of the imperfections on the Sony sound. Technically, they're pretty much identical, except their prices are much different. Is that fair to Sony who put a lot of time and money into doing research and development in order to develop that headphone and then Superlux just used that knowledge and copied it for free pretty much? Nope. Because Superlux pretty much doesn't have to do any research and development, which is the most expensive and difficult part of making a new product, they just have to manufacture it. So, yea...they rip off original manufacturers, but for buyers its unreal value for money.

derbigpr500 I got myself a pair of EVOs and made some tests already. They do sound pleasant. Soundstage is wide enough. Very good experience for the price. But are they better sounding than my M40x's? Well, no they're not. M40x sound clearer, sharper with better controlled bass. EVOs aren't very revealing for studio headphones. They are warm sounding and lack harshness when it's needed (metal songs). They lack body in the way natural sounds are reproduced. Waterfall sounds overwhelming and powerful in M40x. In EVOs much less so. Bottom line - Superlux HD681 EVO are best headphones at their price point but not good enough to call them professional studio headphones. They are nice cheap headphones that sound good but look like studio wannabe.

Marcin Kąpiński well no they aren't studio monitors, the 668b is better for that. The Evos are consumer friendly and easy to recommend on that basis alone. I don't think m40x are better, they're just different. But yes M40x would be more useful in a professional studio, but Evo is more musical and more enjoyable IMO.

+Барсик Going to go with the EVO, it's a better design than the 669 in my opinion, and the sound quality is more balanced. Both pairs are a bit clunky, but the EVO is a *little* more of a deathgrip on the head.

I'm not personally familiar with the HD2000, so its hard for me to offer a clear recommendation in this case. I looked through a few reviews of the Takstar that rate the sound favorably, especially considering its low price.

Good for gaming. Good for EDM and bass. Not very good for acoustics and jazz.

At their price point, we loved the bass on these headphones, especially for electronic artists (though not necessarily EDM).

+lincon mc Cortez i own Sennheiser HD 202 ii and i'm seriously thinking of switching on these xD HD202 has emphasized bass and you'll get to miss alot of details in the songs, of course you can always EQ it so it has somewhat more neutral repons as much as it possible, but if you want bass heavy sound then go for it

I have heard/read good things about the Takstar hi2050's, Superlux 681 EVO's, Superlux 668b's, and the Philips SHP9500's, all of which are within my price range, but i havnt been able to find out which might be best for a gaming/music combo. Ive seen that the takstars and the philips are both full open, while the superlux are both semi open, so would that make the superlux better with bass when it comes to bass type music as well as games where explosions and stuff are happening? at the moment all i have is a turtle beach p11 gaming headset, so im sure really any of these would be a step up.. but i have never tried semi open or full open headphones, so i dont know what would work best, hopefully you can help me out, and thank you for your time :)

Hi PassiveDisplay, thanks for the comment. So for gaming and music you probably are going to privilege a few factors: soundstage (especially for gaming, to give you a more "realistic" sense of your surroundings, shots fired in the distance, etc.) and what kind of tuning you want. A closed or semi-open headphone would be better for bass and explosions. Open and monitor headphones are going to give you a flatter and more accurate mix, but that might not really be the point when gaming. The Philips SHP9500 is more audiophile oriented, so it might not deliver that kind of powerful and exciting audio for gaming you're looking for. The Takstar and 668B phones have a wide soundstage and deliver good bass performance (and all around performance for price.)
