Can you imagine Christopher Reeve as Superman in the year 2022? With Blu Ray, 3D and all the effects that Hollywood uses? That would have smashed the Oscar winning record and give us one of the best movies ever! RIP Chris. You didn't deserve that kind of end!
It would have sucked. The practical effects make the fighting in Metropolis feel more realistic and brutal. Watching Non fly out of the ground through one end of the Planet and out the other with Superman nursing his hand afterward is more rewarding than all the zooming around they do in present media any day. Although to be fair, I can't really knock on MoS for it because we are talking about beings that are completely invulnerable and super fast. I just like the practical effects of old more.
I love the reuse of the alley change music in this scene, especially when Superman appears right next to the cockpit and the main theme comes on at full strength. I even like the barrel roll flying bit right after that. Great moment that shouldn't have been cut, even for pacing issues.
To the brave people of Paris especially those that lost their life in a massacre I give you this scene with Superman out flying an Air France Concorde, a symbol of hope that will give you the peace in death that you could not find in life. If only we had Krypton's last son as a true life saviour. Who will save those poor people's souls. France , Paris the civilized world stands with you and the downfall of barbarians everywhere.
muklucks I've always wished for the longest time that Superman was a real person, who fights for truth, justice and the american way, just like the phrase says, we need a true super hero like that!
And I want to add, we do have a hero in the world, working for the betterment of us all. A hero that is able to save souls in every way a person can be saved. We may not recognize him the way we think he should look or act but he is here, involved in human affairs, toching lives, saving lives, helping us endure hardships, giving us peace of mind, making our spirit strong.
@@dcohen1969 The scene wasn't originally meant for Superman II. It was going to be in the first movie, after Superman's first night in Metropolis when he's on his way to the Fortress of Solitude to talk to Jor-El. So this was meant to be Superman being carefree and having fun with his powers, not on his way to stop a bomb.
I feel like Donner made a poor decision when he edited the scene of Clark saving Lois at the beginning of the film from herself. He used serious music when the scene actually was a little comical.
Jorge Salazar however. Richard Donner did finally make an “ok” cut, of his version. Wish they would have never told him to stop because of the “cliffhanger” from part 1 which is, what happened to the missile Superman flew into space? As we now know, it was meant to crack the phantom zone because he was shooting 1&2 together until the blow up with the producers and salkines.
@@mr.objective6936Yeah, really, but even so, I think the Concorde's max speed was somewhere around mach 2. Wasn't hard for Superman to outrun the Concorde.
París is about to blow up. Meanwhile Superman, "Let me show off my flying skills to those pilot and pass them by with my super speed and find out who is faster" hahahaha Great scene btw. Never seen it before.
I remember seeing this in 1982 on a Betamax Rental.I knew I seen It Once Before,But There Is Plenty Of More clips from Superman II Not seen in many years (and im not talking about the Richard Donner Cut) Like at the end of Superman II Iam sure there was a scene with Russian Artic Soilders In Supermans Fortress
The spin he does looks awful!. The capes not even moving, awesome idea but I’m just not sold on that last shot unfortunately. Looks very ‘superman 4’ish’ at the end
I'd say that's likely due to it being a blue screen effect rather than front projection. The front projection footage looks a little more real and in-camera, while the blue screen stuff looks more pasted-on and flat.
Scripted but probably unfilmed. I believe it would have been one of the movie's first scenes, before the Daily Planet scene where Lois jumps out the window.
I like that Lois, Paris, and half of France are in extreme to mortal danger, but Superman has time to slow down outside the Concorde, and even do a barrel roll.
The way he looks at man's fastest jet liner ever made is just dope. Ma,n hopefully this scene is recreated in another Superman or Justice League movie, it would be sick!!!
LH2K Presents it was originally filmed for part 1 but was used in S II instead for the ABC airings in the 80s. The producers got paid extra money for the ABC showings of S 1, II, & III. That's why all three movies contain as much extra footage as possible. These are basically producer's cuts.
MMAFighter38 Wow really? I guess Ilya Salkind lied with the commentary on the Superman 2 special edition dvd, he said abc wanted the extended scenes and that he and the producers never got paid extra for that, damn those Salkinds, liers!
