It’s interesting because well superman for no offense as I could obviously see it was quite a terrible movie I liked it but at the same time disliked it they should have put the end credits like this more

As long as the cost of doing the restoration work exceeds any potential profit, we won't be seeing such an effort. Also, even if the SFX are cleaned up or made better, the movie is still a turd. With better SFX it will just become a POLISHED turd.

Its stingy warner brothers. People will gladly pay for the content yet the hold it hostage. They gave a pitiful sum to michael thau and donner. With the tech available now, deep fake, cgi, they could easily redo The Donner Cut and give it a proper completion.

@@jokerfleckcast3196 WB would have to use much of the ABC TV cut of Superman II as a template plus the more brutal footage from the White House take over, Marlon Brando scenes, and extended Metropolis fight from the Donner Cut with fixed and polished visual effects. You cannot have a complete film with just the Donner Cut. It just didn't have enough footage to round it all out. Donner only shot about 70-80% of the movie before being shitcanned by the Salkinds. Lester footage would need to be added (Paris, Niagara Falls, etc.) as well as some stuff only seen in the ABC extended version, much of it was Donner footage not even used in the Donner Cut because he was trying use the original turn back time ending that ended up in Superman The Movie instead.

@@jokerfleckcast3196 To suggest Warner Bros are stingy is plain ignorant. Do you have any idea how much money they put into film preservation every year, without any profit from it? It's more than any of the other studios and they do it for the sake of preserving film history. Maybe they don't consider Superman IV a priority. Either way, read before you type.

@@markmckelvey5788 I doubt it. Even though John Williams was unavailable, he not only recommended his colleague Alexander Courage to adapt his existing themes, but Williams also contributed three new motifs for the film. I’m guessing that you’re just responding to this poorly mixed audio track.

I actually hate seeing that Canon logo knowing exactly what it represents. But he did make it look cool, as he does with everything else that he’s done to make this production respectable. Thank you so much Aaron!

To be fair though, cannon were the only ones interested in making another Superman film at the time, WB werent interested, hence Cannon tried, but obviously cocked it up with the budget and vfx. They did the same with Masters of the universe.

@@jokerfleckcast3196, the only reason why Cannon had any interest in doing it is because the cell kinds would done with it due to failures with Superman 3 and Supergirl. Plus, in my honest opinion, Cannon had no intention of making a film in the hopes of doing it the right way. They lied to Reeve and everybody else. Their sole purpose was to cash in on a built-in fan base. They failed miserably and rightfully so

@@pferreira1983 Recently watched a podcast with the special effects supervisor Harrison Ellenshaw .He said that canon never had any intention of doing superman 4 the right way. They were both scum bag shysters who were out in the hopes of cashing in on a recognizable brand. Like everything else that they did…it backfired

Superman the Movie was a masterpiece. 2 was awesome, though Donner's work got hacked up a bit. 3 was slightly lame yet fun and I enjoyed it. 4 was a lame disaster in every way. Cheap locations, cheap effects. The idea of the script was good, but the whole film....Nuclear Man....ughh....painful.

Funny you mention not wanting credit, John Byrne, who was the lead creator on the Superman comics of the time, was brought in to do rewrites on the script. According to a sidebar interview in *Wizard Magazine* during his "Chapter One" Spider-Man project, he said he spent a few days working on the film (and thankfully got paid for his time) and nothing he wrote got used. He also said that he went from spending the first six months wondering if he'd get screen credit to spending the remaining time afterward hoping he wouldn't, because the film went downhill so fast during production.

Canon slashed the budget on this movie, FX people had little to work with.

The returns style fit for Bryan Singers style but a 5th movie, returns sequel, should have this style to honor donners films!!

It might be more difficult when it comes to undoing certain story elements and added superpowers. The Great Wall of China had a built-in solution in the comic adaptation and script, Superman repaired it by hand at super speed. I'm not sure what could be done about the doorbell, since it was meant as a distraction for Superman to slip away, change into Clark and be at the door. Likewise, I'm not sure how Superman could deal with Nuclear Man levitating the vehicles and people during the final street battle.

@@axebomber2108 regarding the Great Wall, Aaron already fixed that. But I’m not sure what he’ll do for the street-level showdown between Superman and Nuclear Man.

That would certainly be an interesting challenge. I think the best that could be done is to just add the star field behind the existing end credits.

Superman V: Reborn was a tentative and ultimately unproduced sequel to Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Before the box-office failure of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, Cannon Films were considering producing a fifth Superman film with Albert Pyun directing. Cannon's bankruptcy resulted in the character's film rights returning to Ilya and Alexander Salkind. The studio selected Superman's death as the storyline for the film, and Jon Peters came in as producer, following the success of 1989's Batman. Ilya Salkind wrote a story for Superman V with Superboy series writers Cary Bates and Mark Jones in the early-1990s. The story involved Superman dying and subsequently being resurrected in the shrunken, bottled Kryptonian city of Kandor. The premise of Superman's death and rebirth coincidentally predated the famous "The Death of Superman" comic where Superman was killed by Doomsday. Salkind, Bates and Jones developed two drafts of the script, with the late Christopher Reeve set to reprise the title role. In the first draft script, Clark Kent is still unable to admit his feelings for the woman he loves, Lois Lane. Before he is able to resolve those feelings with her, Brainiac appears to challenge him. The two fight to their respective deaths. As Superman dies in Lois' arms, he finally confesses his feelings to her. Unbeknownst to either of them, this final confession not only releases his soul from his body, but said soul enters the body of Lois. She soon discovers that she is pregnant with Superman's child. The rewrite still used the The Death of Superman story as its basis. In the script, Brainiac was responsible for the destruction of Krypton. On Earth, Clark Kent is on the verge of a nervous breakdown as he is unable to cope with his dual-identity as reporter and superhero. He visits a psychoanalyst to discuss these feelings, as well as those he has for Lois Lane. Brainiac makes his way to Metropolis and unleashes his genetic creation, Doomsday (who, in this draft has kryptonite-laced blood), upon the public. This naturally draws out Superman and the two battle to the death. Brainiac has won, and the last Kryptonian is dead. After Superman's funeral, Brainiac attempts to steal his body, recognizing it as valuable genetic material. However, his plan is thwarted by the rogue government agency Project Cadmus, who take the body first in hopes of either reviving it or cloning it. During this time, Superman's spirit is shown taking a spiritual journey through the afterlife. At the end of his journey, he concludes that his work on Earth is not yet done and the spirit returns to its body. Resurrected, but powerless, Superman travels to Metropolis to fight Brainiac with the aid of Cadmus. Through the sheer force of his own will, Superman regains his powers and defeats Brainiac, giving him both a sense of closure and security for the world. The idea of include Brainiac as the main antagonist of a Superman film was previously considered for Superman III, but at the final, he was replaced by the Ultimate Computer of Ross Webster. It was later considered for the cancelled Superman films, Superman Reborn and Superman Lives. The project's script was later rewritten by Jonatham Lemkin but as Superman Reborn. Curiously, Lemkin said that their inspirations for Superman Reborn were the films, Star Wars and The Lion King. The idea of include Doomsday in a Superman film was later included in the Superman/Batman film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Death of Superman was finally adapted in a movie in 2007 as the animated direct-to-video feature-lenght film Superman Doomsday.

In Memoriam: Christopher Reeve (1952-2004) & Richard Donner (1930-2021) Despite Donner not being involved with this film, he helped start the series. Both he and Christopher Reeve helped us believe a man can fly.
