@@theguyfromtsukihime3898 This. Marvel or DC, William's Superman theme is for everyone. I turned 56 this year. I was 14 when Richard Donner's Superman first came out in the theaters, and John William's music made us feel the wonder and excitement before the opening credits were even done. And to this day when I hear these opening strains, I'm a kid again and I shed a tear.
I was 8 years old when my mother told me : "we are going to the cinema to see Superman". A crazy world outside in the queue, the cinema was 100% full, an extraordinary movie, an unforgettable moment. Christopher Reeve is The Superman, yes!
@@chrisconnollyofficial - wow. A three word comment from you and 33.3% of it was incorrect. If you'd been replying to me with that level of ignorance I'd honestly have been insulted that you approved of me. Pathetic.
My body was completely paralyzed by post-covid guillane barre syndrome. I played this theme song throughout my months-long rehab. It helped inspire me to fight for every little gain. Today I can walk again.
“What makes Superman a hero is not that he has power, but that he has the wisdom and the maturity to use the power wisely. From an acting point of view, that's how I approached the part.” -Christopher Reeve
This makes me picture Christopher Reeve flying and smiling at the camera. Takes me back to my childhood. Awesome piece of music that evokes great memories and nostalgia
The remarkable thing about this theme is the fact that, despite it never having lyrics as such, you can just hear the word "SUPERMAN!" at the beginning . . .
Anytime this song is played it brings a tear to my eyes. It IS the music of Superman, if you just sit back and listen to it, it brings hope, it brings a feeling of unending braveness to your heart. It's perfect. it's Superman
Do you know how popular Superman is? My father was an immigrant's son born in the Philippines, yet loved Superman and his ideals till the day he passed away. He has Superman watch and clock as his most treasured belongings
Back in the beginnings of VHS my dad bought Superman and we had blankets and popcorn and it was the start of many movie nights. He loved John Williams and other composers. Love you dad and miss you ❤
Loved this. Without any film clips, you pay attention to the orchestra and the music. And the music is GLORIOUS! John WIlliams is a genius. May he live 100 years.
Among all the masterpieces of John Williams, this one still gives me goosebumps every time I hear, it gets me this incontrollable need to rip my shirt off and fly through the window
This song takes me right back to being a kid. Running around with my red cape on, acting like I was flying. All while humming this song. As a kid I WAS Superman and saved countless lives. Hits me in the feels every time.
I'm the same age and share your story. It was a childhood defining event. To this day, this score gives me chills. I would wager there is an entire generation of men who's childhood was marked by this film...and of course, Star Wars a year earlier. We were lucky.
The last five years of the 70' were absolutly tremedous with Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, Rocky, Alien, close encounters, mad max....I was born in 69 in Belgium. It was a new era for a new generation!!!!!!! When I'm listening to Superman, Star Wars soundtracks...I have always wings growing on my back...and also tears of nostalgic joy
I have two very damaged knees, yet everyday I walk 2 miles with this song resounding in my mind and I think of Christopher Reeves courage, his heart and his indomitable spirit that carried him on even through impossible odds, he continued to be a "Super" "Man!" God speed Clark Kent! Christopher you will always epitomize what is best in all of us, "truth, justice, heart, hope, and the willingness to sacrifice all for the welfare of others! UP! UP! AND AWAY!
It's downright impossible to sit still listening to this masterpiece. Something happens on both a primitive and a intellectual way. One gets bombarded with the feeling of adventure, love, action, joy... it's bliss. I don't think there are a theme that captures any other character as well as Williams "Superman". The music is the embodiment of the hero. I remember how the room was packed in the cinema in the little town in Sweden in which I lived. I was 11 yo. Halfway through the main titles people started humming the theme, some put their hands up in tune with the music and after Richard Donners name flashed by applause started. But it was nothing compared to the cheers and applause in the end when Superman winked and flied off. It was the first movie I saw at the cinema (aside childrens movies). I was completely overhelmed. This was the benchmark for every movie I've seen since and boy - I thought ever "grown up" movie was as good... but alas. At the school everyone (but the girls for some reason) talked over each other about the movie. All of the original party (seven of us) went to the next showing (and got all the parents to give us money for it) and we had an even bigger blast. Probably the best movie experience of my life... so far. Sidenote: why the hell doesn't movies nowadays have main titles!?
I remember being a little boy and when those low rumbling bass horns start to blow with the drums at :37 my mind told me to rise up and save the world with my cloth red towel cape. Such a hero’s theme. A child’s imagination is the best.
RIP Richard Donner, you made me believe a man could fly, as a child I jumped off the back of the sofa wearing a tea towel and survived without any broken bones, I thank you.
How this soundtrack didn't win an Oscar is BEYOND me. Then again, John Williams was UNSTOPPABLE in the 70s, almost a monopoly of GREAT soundtrack music!
@@cdnsilverdaddy both titans of our time. as were bernstein, goldsmith and horner. but more of williams' works transcend cinema so for me he's the GOAT
I always tear up when I hear this theme, when it's done right like in this case, not because it reminds me of the tragic end to Christopher Reeve but because of the raw power it contains to move you. Can you imagine what it was like for me, an 11 year old kid, sitting there in the dark watching those titles zoom towards the screen? I wish I could go back in time and watch this movie all over again for the first time to experience that feeling again, or at least sit behind my 11 year old self and enjoy that initial reaction. Good times! (And only one year after Star Wars equally blew my mind).
The feeling is inside you, you can go back in time, is easy, feel like a child, empty your mind and only concentrate in that moment, no matter if it is in the past.
I have the same reaction every time I hear it. Raw Power and Strength is exactly the description of the feeling when hearing it. Makes you want to just put your arms up and fly or save someone!!!
This is my single favorite movie theme and my single favorite rendition. Thanks to John Williams for composing such marvelous music. We are in your debt.
Everytime this masterpiece is played, Chris Reeve smiles at us all from above in the sky...sending out love and hope. Chris you're Superman and you'll always be. You were not only a cape, boots and a suit. You were light... ❤❤❤❤🏆🏆🏆🏆👑👑👑👑 The other ones only play to be Superman.
I *still* get chills hearing this theme. The buildup to the main phrase is just incredible, the woodwinds pairing with the chimes...I could go on and on.
From Algeria, I always love and adore Superman's music more than any movie I used to watch when I was young with my parents, and to this day I still watch it. It's really amazing. Greetings to everyone, especially America and its nice people.
