My son was in his high school band, before each football game, the entire band would make a circle at mid field and play the Krypton Theme. Gave me goosebumps, awesome piece of music...

This made me cry after not having heard it for a long time.

The most remarkable and powerful scene in Superman, is when he flies changing the rotation of the Planet, to bring his love back.. I watched the original movie more than 6 times when I was a kid.. I had a friend who worked at the theater as a Cleaner, and he allowed us to get inside the theater for free.. (Thank you, my friend in Heaven).. and thank you, Superman.. you are incredible..

The Theme for all of humanity. We are, all of us, a collective and living embodiment of this piece of music, capable of achieving such wonderful things if we simply work together. This is bravery, justice, love, perseverance, loss and hope, all packaged into one incredible sonic opus. The best part of the Human Race ever put to music.

It should be a law that any onscreen depiction of Superman *MUST* use this original theme from John Williams!

The effects are a bit dated now, but somehow, Chris Reeves wasn't an actor on a screen playing superman. He WAS Superman. The other movies just don't cut it.

This is so ridiculously good, such a hit by John Williams. Both the krypton theme and main theme. I'm not even that much into Superman but I always choke up humming along this tune whenever I randomly find my way back to it. It really does lift the spirit.

Jesus Christ The beginning of this song Planet krypton just Empathises John Williams Genius as an Epic composer from beginning to End. I fucking love it. It Makes me feel massive in this world, Like the Galaxies and stars are in my bound and at every mans Reach. It makes the universe and Life seem that little bit more Gigantic and beautifully wonderful and mysterious if you know what I mean. In twenty years, no one will remember Hans Zimmer's Superman theme. Just like no one really remembers his Dark Knight music. Hell I saw the movie a week ago and I already forget the music. I like Hans Zimmer; but, John Williams makes iconic themes. Thirty-five years later and people can instantly recognize William's Superman themes. Just as they can instantly recognize Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Recognizing that does not make us "nostalgia dorks".

I dedicate this masterpiece to my fellow brothers and sisters whom are going through depression. May we rise again.

The first part is the theme of Krypton. There is a sense of singular nobility in this arrangement that is simply indescribable. The proud, powerful culture of Krypton at its highest, just before its demise. The next part is Superman’s theme, the glorious, nobile, last son of Krypton who sets a prime example that all of Krypton would be proud of Kal El whilst inspiring billions of Earthlings to emulate the best version of themselves for truth & justice.

This theme was written by John Williams for the first Superman film in 1978.

I think when you say campy, you mean grandiose. This theme is epic, it has a grand scope & sense of importance. Its balances the light playful side of the comic book character, & the larger than life performance of Christopher Reeve (RIP). John Williams has done some of the greatest themes in the history of adventure films including Star Wars & Indiana Jones. Imagine if they changed the classic Star Wars theme for the new film. They wouldnt because its classic, and so is the theme for Superman.

This rendition is far better than when Mr. Wiiliams conducted it with the London Philharmonic in that the rhythmic texture is treated in a far more marcato vein; henceforth giving the listening experience more cohesion to the musically uneducated populous of movie goers. In addition, please notice that "Krypton" is treated with far more metronomic precision and less of a "quasi" feel making the phrase easier to detect; the work is in quadruple/simple with the trumpet solo entering on beat 3 of the phrase, not beat 1. This sets the rest of the brass to also enter on beat 3 of the phrase as well. Great craft in writing on Mr. Williams behalf.

The only bad thing about the Planet Krypton intro is that so few orchestras play it live. I only found two performances on youtube. Why is that??? And where can more be found?

yeah, usually as he grows up he absorbs more energy from the Sun and gets stronger. That's really why general Zod shouldn't be a problem, Superman has a huge head start on the solar energy. That logic doesn't make for a good movie though. Eval999 never said how old Supe was when he was bruised by bullets.

lol- I just meant his suit doesn't have to be armor- Superman's skin is tougher than any armor. Of course he needs a suit. Actually, I think I understand your question. In the older comic books (40s and 50s) Superman's costume was made by Martha Kent from his baby blankets in the spaceship, so they were as indestructible as he was. In the newer (80s to now)comics, he has an "aura" that protects his clothes, and whomever he carries.

The music carries the movie. Without the music, people may have noticed how bad the movie was, not that it was that bad. John Williams was one of the greatest composers of the 20th Century.

Since when the hell did power inherently equal a good or bad character? A great writer will take a character's power and build a story that utilized that power yet STILL made it a challenge. Heck, great writers have done that for decades already. I don't see them holding back Silver Surfer's or Thor's or the Hulk's power, yet they still get good stories where they have to sweat a little.

In the meantime, music from Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy has been featured in more than twenty ads and TV spots. Now, that's a score with a modern edge and Zimmer inspired styles and structures, and still has memorable themes. Honestly, though, on an interesting anecdote, outside of a movie theater I went to, right after Man of Steel finished screening, you could hear on the theater's speakers John Williams' theme. I respect your opinion, even though I don't agree with it.
