In the novelization it’s explained that the Red sun didn’t destroy all of Krypton and that life could be sustained there. The supernova was said by astronomers to have partially scorched the planet leaving the possibility for there to be some survivors. It was all a ruse as Lex Luther bribed people to feed Superman that lie so he’d leave Earth. It was hoped by Lex that he’d die out there. As we saw, it almost happened.
I can understand Kal-El curiosity about need to know fate of his people. Yet why risk himself? An KryptonIan probe could relate visual images and reading from safe distance.
@@paulhunter6742 I think it was born from an intense yearning to see other living Kryptonians that overrode his reasoning. The false info gave him false hope.
They should have kept this in the movie, because frankly I never understood why he was fainting when he returned to earth and passed out when he reached earth. It also perfectly tied into the ending because the land mass that Lex Luthor created looked like the wasteland that Krypton was. In short they should have opened with this then put in the credits. Plus Brandon Routh looks awesome here and I'm sad that he won't reprise his role in the next movie, he did a great job in this one.
I know that Delete scene is a Big waste of Filming too,but I really With The Made A Rao Solar System map that Remains of Krypton too,And Astroids Orbit of What Remains of the Planet grave 🪦 Yard, Because it become a Dead World Rock Wasteland of the Dark in Toxic kryptonite.
The saying “You can never go home again.” hits differently after seeing this scene. This must’ve been both fascinating yet heartbreaking for Kal-El at the same time.
Hollywood has an obscene sense of frivolously wasting money. All this effort, only to wind up on the cutting room floor because a director or producer decided they didn’t like the flow or the runtime was too long.
What a waste. They should have started with this, followed by the JW theme song then the lex Luther widow death bed scene etc imo. Would have made made more sense.
It's a waste kal couldn't find kara or any clues about the city of kandor. maybe they should have filmed a post-credits scene in returns, seeing brainiac could generate some interest in the public to see what would happen in the next one but it did not occur to them. really this opening scene in the movie lent itself to it.
Because Krypton was reduced to rocks and pebbles in the first movie, and the spaceship shown here is larger than the one from the first movie. Continuity wise this scene doesn't fit.
Loved for this to have been the opening. Seeing Krypton in ruins would have been a good setup for Brainiac, as he would've possibly been somewhere near and receiving the signature of another Kryptonian.
Why didn't they keep this in the movies... it would have added to the movie, immensely, reminding us Superman is a science fiction story with its roots in the golden age of the genre.
The actual piece of music that composer John Ottman "mocked up" for this scene is available to listen to on the expanded album for the film, and is titled "Return to Krypton§* (synth mockup)".

He lived o Earth For 33 years didn't he so he made a Ship out of energy crystal so that he could fly to where his original home once was !@@paulhunter6742
That scene was powerful and it explains what he found in his planet. It should of kept it in the movie. That would explain how long it took him to find his home only too find the symbol S . And destroyed no life in that planet. So much money spent not too put that scene in what a shame.
In the novelization, its called The Valley of The Elders where all of the great families of Kryptons crest/sigils were carved. The House of El was always one of prominence on Krypton from its earliest days.
@@Daron7181just like the Cybertron Golden Age where peace once existed through our the transformers galaxy. Or the High Republic Golden Age of the Jedi when the Last Jedi and Sith Wars came to an end after the Brotherhood of Darkness of the Sith was defeated.
If Superman went to find the remains of Krypton, wouldn't he know it would be just a giant debris field of Kryptonite? It seems like he could piece that together.
I thought crystals could protect against radiation at least somewhat. Superman doesn't really need the protection with our sun, though. It's the homeworld Kryptonite in that huge mass that got to him.
I would have totally preferred the entire movie be about Superman during his time gone. Like in the video game, he fights Mongul and other villains on the planet "Warworld". How awesome of a film would that have been, instead of this crap?
Kryptonian physiology. they are vulnerable to the radiation, really great film and alternative opening scene, always liked the return to Krypton sequence
I didn't think it would be that detrimental to him. However, it occurs to me that not everything on Earth is good for humans to be around. I suspect the same here. Also, in reality most of his life he wasn't exposed to that level of kryptonite. It was probably more than he could handle. The other thought was his body is used to being super. So it doesn't have the immunity built up.
@@jennypack217Like in Man of Steel when he wasn't able to handle the atmosphere on Zod's ship, but the other Kryptonians had no problem with it, tying into what Jor-El had told him about Krypton having a much harsher environment than Earth.
WOW, No, Metallo, The Elite, Mongul, Darkseid, Bizarro, Crime Syndicate, Parasite, Jax-Ur with Valla .They could have even went with the President Luthor storyline, ...I don't know what Bryan Singer was thinkig. This movie was to be a total failure from the start. I feel bad for Brandon Routh he was the BEST Superman after Christopher Reeve.
