If you look closely at Jason’s facial expressions you can see that he’s breathing slightly quicker and is leaning back, showing some discomfort to the Kryptonite. The only reason it’s not effecting him fully is because he’s half human and has not properly developed his powers yet. That’s why Lois looked scared when she saw lex holding the kryptonite, she was afraid of him finding out about Jason’s true parentage and using her child to hurt superman or worse.
You can tell Lex is suspicious of Jason so he places the krytonite right by his face just to see if it had any affects when it didn't he dropped his suspicion. Only for his answered to be confirmed that one of his henchmen had died from having a piano smashed into him "Yep that's Superman's kid."
Catspaw I’m not sure if you were watching, but Jason DID react, at least enough for Lex to be suspicious, his henchmen’s death confirmed his suspicions
It only effected Jason slightly because of all the medications he was using, whatever it is that runs through a developing kryptonian has to run its course so their bodies can naturally develop their superpowers
I think it triggered Jason’s powers when Lex waves it right in front of his face real close because if you notice Jason stiffens up as if he got a shot.
@@GinoongVince or Jason might be like superboy of young justice. Being half human and half Kryptonian he might not have all of Supermans powers but he won't be as vulnerable to kryptonite as Superman.
Newton-Thomas Siegel literally bathes the scenes he shoots in gold. I love his style. His cinematography shines in Drive as well. I still like the early look of the DCEU though. Amir Mokri and Larry Fong did a great job on those films.
It’s such a great part of his character. He is so incredibly egotistical, he views himself as living in a world of babies, everyone else is a dumb child compared to him.
@@Circuitssmith It's why he's one of my favorite villains ever. He's not doing villainous things just to "conquer the world", it's just him feeding his ego to show how much better he is than anyone else.
Man this scene really captured lex Luther in ways I don’t think I’ve seen. Just the level of cold calculation, mixed with the bit of sharp wit that shows how big the guys ego really is. I absolutely love every second of this scene!
Lex had truly been driven insane with jealousy and rage. There was no way he could pull off his ridiculous plan without destroying everything and everybody in the process, including himself. He didn't care. It's all about hurting Superman 24/7.
Well Lex admitted that in Smallville's Series Finale. And in Season 7 when Clark confronted him about Lionel's death. "Everyone loves Clark Kent! He's the perfect son!"
Well, after seeing how poor China and Russia are at missiles let alone defending themselves, they probably couldn't take over Lex's island. I would bet USA would nuke it before it got out of hand.
Well he could have waited a while global warming might eventually make that happen anybody with a brain would realize understand what would happen if the polar ice caps were to melt to a significant extent .
Imagine if ben afflecks batman came after this lex luthor oh why oh why we didn't hire Kevin spacey as lex luthor again instead of Jesse Eisenberg? He would've nailed it like he did here in this scene.
He was never found guilty. The court proved his innocence. Did it occur to you those victims probably made up that story. Jealous of his success and wanted a piece of his money.
What I love about Lex is he is the most psychotic nice guy ever. He can sit calmly with you and talk to you like an old friend... All the while plotting to kill you in horrible ways...
I don't think people REALLY understand that ‘Superman Returns’ (2006) was a direct sequel to ‘Superman 2.’ That's why Luthor knows where the Fortress of Solitude is and how Superman knocked up Lois. Most people I hear say that they just didn’t really like how Brandon Routh portrayed Superman, but Brandon Routh captured the spirit of Chris Reeves perfectly. He looks just like him at that age (Reeves was also in his late 20s during the filming of the first 2 movies) and totally sold me on this being the same boy scout/awkward dork character from those films. I agree Kate Bosworth was miscast being too young to play Lois (she was 23, while Margot Kidder was older than Reeves during the earlier movies), but as far as acting goes she, much like Routh, captured old Lois very well. Luthor seducing a rich old lady to get him out of jail and inherit her money sounds like something he'd do in the past movies. It's absurd comedy! A staple of the old films. And most people complain that the ending was quick and convenient when that was the case with the earlier films as well (time reversal, anyone?). Overall, I love this movie and it gets more shit than it deserves.
Brutal y fascinante escena
- Cummon, let me hear you say it. Just once, cummon... - You're insane... - No! (Can't hold how much of a freak he is) What a great actor. Enjoy every second of this scene
If someone was to ask me what my top four favorite performances of Kevin Spacey’s career were, it would be almost too easy: 1. Hopper - A Bug’s Life 2. Verbal Kint - The Usual Suspects 3. Lex Luthor - Superman Returns 4. John Doe - Se7en
Am I only that's more terrified of lex in this movie then I am with the Nolanverse Joker? Like there's something about this guy that feels like a time bomb and when it explodes, it hurts.
Honestly Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor is the best version of the iconic villain(no offense to Clancy Brown or Michael Rosenbaum). Imagine if Heath Ledger's Joker and Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor met?
@@atrain132 Hackman did a good job, but the writing for that one ruined it. They took one of the most iconic villains ever and made him and his crew comic relief.
Because of two unproven accusations of which one was dropped and the accuser was pretty shady. (All the other accusation were about grown up men, most even about pretty standard behavior)
1:47 if you pause and look real closely, you can see Metropolis is located in New York State, right beside New Jersey but Long Island in this movie doesn't seem to exist or if it's underwater.
I was maybe 7 when I saw this for the first time, my dad was watching I didn’t even know it was superman at the time but it’s a very vivid memory this exact scene
People give this movie allot of shit, but it’s honestly a wonderful homage to the Christopher reed era, and the line where he says “are you sure?” Is just wonderful and terrifying. Because we all know if he found out it was Superman’s kid, he would kill him immediately.
I once read that Robert Downey Jr was almost cast as Lex Luthor, I don't want to imagine how he would look with a bald head. It's a good thing Kevin Spacey shaved his head for this film, there are some scenes where he really looks like Gene Hackman's character, he looks really good
Lois knew that Jason's father is Superman but she tried to hide it from Lex's knowledge otherwise Lex tends to use Jason to against Superman unfortunately he knew the father from Jason's face expression when he got close the krytonote to Jason's face but he was not so sure then after his henchman died then he's freaking sure that Superman is Jason's father.
I think next to Rosenbaum this is the best Lex I have seen. I would have preferred for him to be more then just a real estate robber baron and more of the global, big picture bad guy we know him to be. Glover's Lionel Luthor would also have been a good villain for the movies as well
Gene Hackman the voice of DreamWorks Insect 🐜 Villain from the movie Antz, General Mandible and Kevin Spacey the voice of Hopper the evil Grasshopper villain in Disney’s insect movie, “A Bug’s Life”🦗 coincidence I think now😏
